Money Monster Trailer – George Clooney & Julia Roberts are taken hostage by Jack O’Connell

January 13, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

money-monster-trailer-slideGeorge Clooney and Julia Roberts are teaming up again for the drama/thriller Money Monster, and they’re bringing on Jack O’Connell for the ride. And as this is Clooney, you shouldn’t be too surprised that the movie tries to mix entertainment with a few social issues.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘In the taut and tense thriller Money Monster, Lee Gates (George Clooney) is a bombastic TV personality whose popular financial network show has made him the money wiz of Wall Street. But after he hawks a high tech stock that mysteriously crashes, an irate investor (Jack O’Connell) takes Gates, his crew, and his ace producer Patty Fenn (Julia Roberts) hostage live on air. Unfolding in real time, Gates and Fenn must find a way to keep themselves alive while simultaneously uncovering the truth behind a tangle of big money lies.’

The film will be out in the US in March, but won’t reach the UK until May. Take a look at the first trailer below.

Amber Heard May Take The Female Lead Role In Aquaman

January 13, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Amber-Heard

While it’s still a couple of months until Batman v Superman hits cinemas, Warner & DC is busy at work ensuring they can expand their universe with numerous other movies over the next few years. Suicide Squad arrives this summer, then Wonder Woman in June 2017 and Justice League: Part 1 out November 2017.

However, before we get Part 2 pf Justice League, The Flash and Aquaman will get their own movies in 2018. Now Jason Momoa’s Aquaman may have find his leading lady, who will make her first appear and in the planned Justice League movie. The woman in question is Amber Heard, who THR reports in talks for the part.

If she does take the role she’ll be ‘Mera, the love interest of Aquaman and eventual queen of Atlantis. First appearing in 1963, the character’s powers include the ability to control and even solidify water.’ Heard should be on set this summer for Justice League: Part 1, then back again for Aquaman next year.

Zack Snyder is directing Justice League, while James Wan is taking on Aquaman.

New Hail, Caesar! Trailer – Ralph Fiennes wants Alden Ehrenreich to be a better actor in the Coen’s star-studded flick

January 12, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

hail-caesar-quadWhile many had expected the Coen Brothers’ Hail, Caesar! to be making an Oscar run, it’s been slightly pushed back, but it still looks like it’s going to be a lot of fun. If nothing else their look back at the Golden Age of Hollywood has one hell of a cast.

A new trailer has now arrived, which tells us little about the plot, but certainly gives us a feel for quirky tone we can expect.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Four-time Oscar®-winning filmmakers Joel and Ethan Coen (No Country for Old Men, True Grit, Fargo) write and direct Hail, Caesar!, an all-star comedy set during the latter years of Hollywood’s Golden Age.  Starring Josh Brolin, George Clooney, Ralph Fiennes, Tilda Swinton, Channing Tatum, Scarlett Johansson, Jonah Hill and Frances McDormand, Hail, Caesar! follows a single day in the life of a studio fixer who is presented with plenty of problems to fix.’

The film will be in UK cinemas on March 4th.

Ridley Scott Circling Movie Version Of Classic TV Show The Prisoner

January 12, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

ridley-scott

The 1967 sci-fi show The Prisoner only ran for one season of 17 episodes, but it’s left an indelible mark on popular culture. For several years Universal has been trying to work out what they can do with the property. After a mediocre miniseries didn’t catch people’s imaginations they’ve been working on a movie version.

Now it may have got a major bump up, as Deadline reports that none other than Ridley Scott is in early talks to helm it. It may well become his next movie after the upcoming Alien: Covenant.

The 1967 show followed Patrick Magoohan’s No. 6, who is taken and placed in a strange community full of other mysterious figures who seem to removed from society byecause they know too much (No.6 himself has recently resigned from a government role). However, he has no real idea why he’s there, who has taken him, and soon discovers that if he tries to escape a large white ball comes along to keep him contained.

Several top writer have already worked on the screenplay, including Christopher McQuarrie and William Monahan. It’s believed several more are jockeying to be given a crack at it, and numerous actors have also expressed an interest in the central role, although no names have been announced as yet.

Jamie Foxx Will Be Robin Hood: Origins’ Little John, Alongside Taron Egerton

January 12, 2016 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

jamie-foxx

Several Robin Hood movies have been in the works over the past few years, but one is now working its way towards the big screen, with the news, via THR, that Jamie Foxx has been cast as Little John in Robin Hood: Origins. Otto Bathurst (Peaky Blinders) is set to direct from a script by Joby Harold.

Taron Egerton is already onboard to play the title role. As the title suggests the movie will be about the legendary character’s early days. However it’s not going back too far, as it’s previously been reported that here Robin ‘returns from fighting in The Crusades and finds that Sherwood Forest is rife with corruption and evil. He forms a band of outlaws and they take matters into their own hands.’

It sounds like he might have brought back Little John with him, as Deadline suggests the character ‘starts out distrustful of Robin Hood (they fought on opposite sides), and then warms to the young hero in the gritty revisionist take on the legend.’ The film is expected to shoot this summer for release in 2017.

Free State of Jones Trailer – Matthew McConaughey heads for the Civil War

January 11, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

free-state-of-jones-poster-slideIt seems like a long time ago that Matthew McConaughey was becoming a bit of a joke, who many people thought was a lousy actor who only produced an endless string of mediocre rom-com. Now he’s an Oscar-winner who tends to only make interesting choices and movie that are worth a watch.

Now he’s got Free State Of Jones, which has released its first trailer.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Written and directed by four-time Oscar nominee Gary Ross (The Hunger Games, Seabiscuit, Pleasantville), and starring Oscar® winner Matthew McConaughey, Free State of Jones is an epic action-drama set during the Civil War, and tells the story of defiant Southern farmer, Newt Knight, and his extraordinary armed rebellion against the Confederacy. Banding together with other small farmers and local slaves, Knight launched an uprising that led Jones County, Mississippi to secede from the Confederacy, creating a Free State of Jones. Knight continued his struggle into Reconstruction, distinguishing him as a compelling, if controversial, figure of defiance long beyond the War.’

It’ll be in cinemas in May.

Miles Teller, Ansel Elgort, Dave Franco & Logan Lerman On Young Han Solo Shortlist

January 11, 2016 By Tim Isaac 2 Comments

logan-lerman

The role of a young Han Solo in the planned Star Wars spin-off about the legendary character was always bound to be a hotly fought over role, and also one where Disney/Lucasfilm and directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller were likely to cast a wide net while looking for the perfect person. Now Variety reports they’re narrowing in on the actorwho’ll land the role, soming up with a shortlist of a dozen names.

That list includes some hot young things, such as Miles Teller, Ansel Elgort, Dave Franco, Logan Lerman, Jack Reynor, Scott Eastwood, Emory Cohen, and Blake Jenner. Earlier in the search the makers considered both older and younger actors but it looks like they’ve decided their film Han Solo should be in his early 20s (although Eastwood is a little older as he’s 29).

It is very early to cast, as the movie isn’t expected to go into production until January 2017 (for release May 25, 2018). However it’s suggested the reason that they want to find their man now is because of a planned cameo in this year’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which is also set before the events of Star Wars: A New Hope.

All of the finalists are now expected to screen-test and the person who’ll be filling Harrison Ford’s boots will be chosen within the next few weeks. It’ll certainly be interesting to see who they pick, as some of those on the shortlist have the swagger and others have the looks, but it’s a tough job for someone to pull both those together in a way audiences will be happy with. Whoever it is, it seems we can be assured Han is gonna be very good looking.

The Revenant Tops The Golden Globe Awards, While Ricky Gervais Raises Ire With Caitlyn Jenner Joke

January 11, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

revenant-slieWhen the Hollywood Foreign Press Association hired Ricky Gervais to host the Golden Globes after a three-year gap, you’ve got to think they were hoping for a bit of controversy. After all, all of his previous experiences has commenters asking whether he’d gotten too close to the knuckle.

This year the joke that raised many people’s ire almost inevitably involved Caitlyn Jenner, which Gervais delivered barely five seconds into the ceremony. He said, “I’m gonna be nice tonight – I’ve changed. Not as much as Bruce Jenner, obviously. Now Caitlyn Jenner, of course. What a year she’s had. She became a role model for trans people everywhere, showing great bravery in breaking down barriers and destroying stereotypes. She didn’t do a lot for women drivers. But, you can’t have everything; not at the same time.”

Oddly while many have decided it was transphobic, it’s not really, other than potentially the mention of her former name, as it fully accepts her as a woman. Easier to argue would be that it’s mysogynistic, as the real target of stereotyping is women drivers, or that making a joke about the fact Jenner was involved in an accident where someone died could be viewed as tasteless. However, just because it’s at Caitlyn’s expense doesn’t automatically make it transphobic, despite what some people would like to believe.

With the actual awards, The Revenant was the big winner, picking up Best Director, Best Actor – Drama for Leonardo DiCaprio and Best Picture – Drama. Some have suggested this now perfectly tees the movie up to repeat that at the Oscars.

The Martian also did well, with Matt Damon picking up Best Actor – Musical or Comedy and Best Picture – Music or Comedy. That’s despite many wondering how the movie got classed as either a comedy or a musical, other than in terms of the studio knowing they were more likely to win if they entered it in those categories than in the Drama ones.

Jennifer Lawrence picked up her third Golden Globe for Joy in the Best Actress – Musical or Comedy, while Brie Larson for her first for Room in the Best Actress – Drama category. The latter suprised many, who though Cate Blanchett was going to win for Carol. Jobs also picked up a couple of awards, with Kate Winslet taking Best Supporting Actress and Aaron Sorking picking up Best Screenplay.

It wasn’t a particularly strong showing on the LGBT front, but Sam Smith won Best Original Song for Spectre theme Writing’s On The Wall, and Lady Gaga got a Best Actress in a Limited-Series or TV Movie gong for American Horror Story: Hotel (the Globes loves giving acting awards to singers, even Madonna has one). While the lesbian-themed Carol was hotly tipped going into the awards season, it was completely shut out at the Globes, and some feel it may also struggle at the Oscars

You can take a look at the full list of winners below, as well as taking a look as the fabulous way out actor Denis O’Hare tipped his hat to his American Horror Story: Hotel character with his Globes outfit. [Read more…]
