Maria Bello Up For The Max Steel Movie

May 13, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Maria-BelloAfter quite a long time in development – including a while when Taylor Lautner was going to take the lead role – the live action film version of Max Steel has finally come together.

The likes of Ben Winchell, Ana Villafane and Andy Garcia have already signed on and now Variety reports they’ll be joined by Maria Bello.

Max Steel  was launched as an action figure line and CG TV series in 2000, but never really took off (although apparently he’s still big in Latin America). It’s perhaps Max’s lack of popularity that’s made Mattel so keen on making a movie out of the extreme sports fan turned supherhuman spy, hoping that a film will give Max the worldwide fandom that’s so far alluded him.

That’s especially true as Mattel is largely funding it themselves and it’ll be released independently.

Shooting on the movie started last month. Bello will play Max’s grandmother.

Benjamin Walker To Star In The Thriller 2:22 Alongside Teresa Palmer

Benjamin Walker in Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter

Benjamin Walker in Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter

With Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter it seemed like Benjamin Walker might be poised to break out as a big star, but it hasn’t quite worked out that way. However he’s now got a new role, taking the lead in the thriller 2:22 opposite Theresa Palmer, according to Variety.

Walker is set to play ‘a man whose life is derailed when an ominous pattern of events repeats itself in exactly the same manner every day, ending at precisely 2:22 p.m. He falls for a beautiful woman whose life is threatened by these strange events, forcing him to solve the mystery of 2:22.’

The film will be sold at Cannes and presuming that goes well, it’s set to start shooting in Australia in October.

Walker has another big movie coming up, as he takes a major role in Ron Howard’s Heart Of The Sea, about the events which inspired Moby Dick.

Noomi Rapace Finds Brilliance Alongside Will Smith

May 13, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

noomi-rapaceWill Smith has been incredibly picky about what projects he’s starred in recently, only making a few films in the past few years. However recently it was announced he was in talks for the sci-fi thriller Brilliance.

Now the actor has some company, as TheWrap reports Noomi Rapace has bagged the other lead role in the movie.

David Koepp (Jurassic Park) came up with the script, based on the Marcus Sakey novel. The book is set in a world where special individuals known as ‘brilliants’ have heightened abilities. The plot follows a government agent whose ‘brilliant’ gift is tracking down terrorists. However he may have met his match when tasked to find a dangerous man in Wyoming with his own set of special skills.

It’s not clear exactly who Rapace will play.

Julius Onah is set to direct, although it’s not clear when it will shoot.

Channing Tatum Is Confirmed As Gambit In X-Men: Apocalypse

May 13, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

channing-tatum-vanity-fair2-thumbA couple of months ago Channing Tatum suggested he’d really like to play Gambit in the X-Men universe. Well it turns out he was just musing about something that would never happen, as producer Lauren Shuler Donner has confirmed the actor will take on the role in X-Men: Apocalypse.

That’s bad news for Taylor Kitsch, who played Remy LeBeau, aka Gambit, in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, especially as at the time Wolverine was seen as a ways to introduce the character for a possible standalone movie.

Producer Lauren Shuler Donner let the news slip to Total Film, saying, “Well you know he’s a rogue, Channing. He’s a rascal, just like Remy LeBeau, and he can handle the action, we all know that. He’s got a really good heart, because I know him personally, I did a movie with him. So I think he’ll be great, he’ll be great for Gambit, and he’s a southerner too, he’s not from New Orleans but he is a southerner and he understands that world, and you know Gambit loves New Orleans.

Director Bryan Singer had previously suggested Apocalypse will feature both Gambit and Nightcrawler, although it’s not known whether Alan Cumming will be back in the latter role. However there won’t be as many of the cast from the original film trilogy as in Days Of Future Past, with Apocalypse concentrating slightly more on the First Class mutants. The movie is due out in 2016.

First Look At Ben Affleck As Batman Arrives

May 13, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

ben-affleck-batman-first-picWhen it was announced that Ben Affleck would play Batman in the planned Batman Vs. Superman, there was a lot of grumbling, although since then some people have come around to the idea. Now we get our first look at the actor in costume as the Caped Crusader, along with a pic of the new Batmobile.

It has to be said he’s looking a bit more beefcake than Christian Bale was.

You’ll also notice the pics are in black and white, as Zack Snyder barely mentioned what the pic was of when he tweeted the pic of Affleck on his new Twitter account, instead saying, ‘I shot this with my @Leica_Camera M Monochrom. #Batman #Batmobile #Gotham http://imgur.com/3hRU6px pic.twitter.com/p5DEf6fLzJ’

But hey, perhaps Leica paid a lot for that, who knows.

In Batman Vs. Superman, Henry Cavill will be back Superman/Clark Kent, with Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne and Diane Lane also returning. Newcomers include Ben Affleck as Batman/Bruce Wayne, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman/Diana Prince, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor and Jeremy Irons as Alfred.

The film is set to hit cinemas May 6th, 2016.

The Flash TV Series Gets A Poster Featuring Grant Gustin

May 10, 2014 By Tim Isaac 2 Comments

flash-poster1It was more or less a formality that after introducing the character in Arrow and a year of planning, The Flash would get a series order by The CW in the US.

That’s now happened and in its wake comes the first poster, featuring Grant Gustin in costume.

Gustin popped up as Barry Allen in a couple of early episodes of the current season of Arrow, but he won’t don the famed red costume in the pilot of The Flash, which is due to start airing this Autumn. He may have already had the accident that gave him powers in Arrow, but he apparently won’t get superheroic until he has his own series.

Before now Gustin was best known as Glee’s Sebastian, who tried to steal Blane from Kurt.

New Snowpiercer Red-Band Trailer – Chris Evans is looking dirty amongst an incredible cast

May 9, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Snowpiercer has had a few problems. Despite great reviews from film festivals, it became stuck in a battle between director Bong Joon-ho and The Weinstein Company over whether a recut version should be released commercially in the US and potentially other countries as well. The Weinsteins wanted to recut it, but Bong wants his version released.

It’s been stuck in limbo for English-speaking countries for over a year now, but eventually the Weinsteins relented and so the director’s original cut will hit US cinemas on June 27th (although annoyingly there’s still no UK date).

Ahead of that comes a new, rather cool, red-band trailer, which gives us a good feel for the movie.

The film is set on a ravaged Earth where the few human survivors are on a train (which gives the film its name) that travels around the globe. However a revolution is brewing amongst the passengers. The film has a great cast, following Curtis (Chris Evans), Mason (Tilda Swinton), Gilliam (John Hurt), Wilford (Ed Harris), Namgoong Minsu (Kang-ho Song), Edgar (Jamie Bell), Tanya (Octavia Spencer), Andrew (Ewen Bremner) and Yona (Ah-sung Ko) as they ride the train. The Inbetweeners 2 Teaser – Simon Bird, James Buckley, Blake Harrison & Joe Thomas are going Down Under

May 9, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

After the massive UK success of The Inbetweeners movie, it was little that a sequel was put into development. Now the first western-infused teaser has arrived, and we can see the boys are on holiday once more – but a little further afield this time.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘The hotly anticipated follow up to the UK’s most successful comedy film of all time, THE INBETWEENERS 2 sees our favourite foursome visit Australia. Simon Bird, James Buckley, Blake Harrison & Joe Thomas are joined by additional cast members Emily Berrington, Freddie Stroma and David Field.

‘THE INBETWEENERS 2 is written and directed by series creators, Damon Beesley and Iain Morris, and produced by Spencer Millman (“The Mighty Boosh”, “Man Down”).’

The movie will open in cinemas across the UK & Ireland on Wednesday 6th August 2014. [Read more…]

John Goodman & Ken Watanabe Join The Transformers 4 Voice Cast

May 9, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

john-goodmanIt’s not often you can add new cast members to a film just a couple of months before it opens, but it’s just been revealed that director Michael Bay has tapped John Goodman and Ken Watanabe to voice two of the new Autobots in Transformers: Age Of Extinction.

Goodman and Watanabe join legendary voice actors Peter Cullen and Frank Welker. Goodman will play Autobot Hound, Watanabe will play Drift, while Cullen reprises his role as the voice of Optimus Prime, and Welker (who’s voiced numerous characters in the earlier movies) takes on another new character, Galvatron.

“I am pleased to welcome two gifted and versatile actors, John Goodman and Ken Watanabe, to the world of Transformers,” said Bay. “And to reteam with Peter and Frank, who have brought Transformers characters alive from the beginning. I’ve been fortunate to work with some of the best voice talent in the business, and together we will introduce several exciting new robots to fans of the franchise around the world.”

Rounding out the voice-over cast are actors John DiMaggio, Mark Ryan, Robert Foxworth and Reno Wilson. DiMaggio and Ryan will take on the new characters Crosshairs and Lockdown, while Foxworth reprises the role of Ratchet and Wilson returns as Brains.

The all new human cast includes Mark Wahlberg, Stanley Tucci, Li Bingbing , Kelsey Grammer, Sophia Myles, T. J. Miller, Nicola Peltz, Jack Reynor and Titus Welliver.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Transformers: Age Of Extinction begins after an epic battle that left a great city torn, but with the world saved. As humanity picks up the pieces, a shadowy group reveals itself in an attempt to control the direction of history… while an ancient, powerful new menace sets Earth in its crosshairs. With help from a new cast of humans, Optimus Prime and the Autobots rise to meet their most fearsome challenge yet. In an incredible adventure, they are swept up in a war of good and evil, ultimately leading to a climactic battle across the world.’

The film is due out in July.

Patrick Wilson Will Be The Blunderer, Alongside Jessica Biel, Imogen Poots, & Toby Jones

May 9, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

patrick-wilson-shirtless-slideA very talented cast is coming together for The Blunderer, with Deadline reporting that Patrick Wilson, Jessica Biel, Imogen Poots, and Toby Jones have signed on to star (and yes, I do include Biel in the talented group, as she’s actually far better than most of the roles she’s given).

Based Patricia Highsmith’s 1960s set novel the story follows Walter Stackhouse (Wilson), who is a successful architect with a lovely wife (Biel).

Underneath his seemingly normal, perfect life, he is obsessed with an unsolved murder case, which spirals out of control as he faces both a deadly killer (Jones) and an ambitious detective, all while lusting for another woman (Poots).

Andy Goddard is set to directing from screenplay by Susan Boyd. The film will be looking for buyers at Cannes.
