Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Is Getting A New Live-Action Movie

May 7, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

mighty-morphinMighty Morphin Power Rangers might have been very popular and quite a lot of fun, but let’s face it, looked at objectively it was a bit naff.

However now it might be getting a bit of an upgrade from shiny lycra and people in monster and mecha suits running around obviously fake sets. Lionsgate has announced that they’re planning a new Mighty Morphin Power Rangers live action movie.

The Power Rangers started as a television series more than 20 years ago, and the series has been in continuous production ever since. It has subsequently grown into one of the world’s most popular and recognisable brands, with toys, apparel, costumes, video games, DVD’s, comic books and other merchandise.

Creator Haim Saban commented, “Lionsgate is the perfect home for elevating our Power Rangers brand to the next level. They have the vision, marketing prowess and incredible track record in launching breakthrough hits from The Hunger Games to Twilight and Divergent. In partnership with the Lionsgate team, we’re confident that we will capture the world of the Power Rangers and translate it into a unique and memorable motion picture phenomenon with a legacy all its own.”

There’s no news on exactly how they’ll tackle it on-screen, but the basics of young people in suits fighting bad guys and with the ability to join together to become a giant robot is bound to be the same.

The Office’s Andy Buckley Joins Jurassic World

May 7, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Andy-BuckleyShooting has already started on Jurassic World, but it’s not too late to add another cast member as The Office star Andy Buckley has joined the ensemble.

As with the other cast members, no details have been given about the character he’s playing. However he’ll join Chris Pratt, Jake Johnson, and Judy Greer, Ty Simpkins, Bryce Dallas Howard, Nick Robinson, Vincent D’Onofrio, Irrfan Khan, B.D. Wong and Omar Sy.

No official plot details have been confirmed, but it’s believed it’ll be set in a working dino theme park on Isla Nublar, where the dream of John Hammond has finally come true. However there will inevitably be problems with those prehistoric beasties (or otherwise it’d be a pretty boring movie)

Colin Trevorrow is directing from a screenplay he co-wrote with Derek Connolly. The movie is due out summer 2015.

Channing Tatum in Dear John

Channing Tatum

Channing Tatum is a busy boy. He’s already got plenty of movies lined up, but now he’s slotting in one more, as THR reports that he’s set to star in and produce a true crime thriller for Sony.

The movie is set in the late 1970s, and ‘is described as the inspiring true story of an ordinary family man who decides to risk everything by going undercover to take down the biggest mob boss in the country.’

Unfortunately there’s no much more info that that and there’s no title yet either.

Kristin Gore, will write the script, while Oscars ceremony head honchos Craig Zadan and Neil Meron will produce.

This Is Maleficent Featurette – Angelina Jolie explores the bad fairy

May 6, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Disney has a lot of money riding on Maleficent, so they’ll be hoping it’ll follow in the footsteps of their fairy tale film Frozen, rather than their live action reinventions Lone Ranger and John Carter. To help get us interested they’ve now released a ‘This Is Maleficent’ featurette, which sees Angelina Jolie discussing her character.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘From Disney comes “Maleficent”—the untold story of Disney’s most iconic villain from the 1959 classic “Sleeping Beauty.” A beautiful, pure-hearted young woman, Maleficent has an idyllic life growing up in a peaceable forest kingdom, until one day when an invading army threatens the harmony of the land.

‘Maleficent rises to be the land’s fiercest protector, but she ultimately suffers a ruthless betrayal—an act that begins to turn her pure heart to stone. Bent on revenge, Maleficent faces an epic battle with the invading king’s successor and, as a result, places a curse upon his newborn infant Aurora. As the child grows, Maleficent realizes that Aurora holds the key to peace in the kingdom—and perhaps to Maleficent’s true happiness as well.’

It’s due in cinemas at the end of the month. [Read more…]

New Tammy Trailer – Melissa McCarthy goes on a road trip with Susan Sarandon

May 6, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Melissa McCarthy is spreading her wings on film, co-writing the script for Tammy and producing, while her hubby, Ben Falcone, directs and wrote the script with McCarthy. Now a new trailer for the film has arrived.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Tammy (McCarthy) is having a bad day. She’s totaled her clunker car, gotten fired from her thankless job at a greasy burger joint, and instead of finding comfort at home, finds her husband getting comfortable with the neighbor in her own house.

‘It’s time to take her boom box and book it. The bad news is she’s broke and without wheels. The worse news is her grandma, Pearl (Sarandon), is her only option—with a car, cash, and an itch to see Niagara Falls. Not exactly the escape Tammy had in mind. But on the road, with grandma riding shot gun, it may be just what Tammy needs.’

Tammy is due in cinemas at the beginning of July. [Read more…]

First Poster For Christopher Nolan’s Insterstellar Gets Released

May 6, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

interstellar-teaser-poster1A few months ago we got a brief, enigmatic teaser trailer for Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar. However this being Nolan, he’s been keeping his cards pretty close to his chest. But now comes the first poster.

Here’s the film’s synopsis: ‘INTERSTELLAR chronicles the adventures of a group of explorers who make use of a newly discovered wormhole to surpass the limitations on human space travel and conquer the vast distances involved in an interstellar voyage.’

Add that to the poster’s tagline – Mankind was born on Earth. It was never meant to die here – and it’s all pretty intriguing.

Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain and Michael Caine all star.

A new full trailer (which reports say is still pretty enigmatic) is expected to be released next week.

John Krasinski To Direct The Hollars, With Anna Kendrick & Richard Jenkins Starring

May 6, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

john-krasinskiJohn Krasinksi is best known as an actor, but he’s also been exploring writing and directing in the last few years. While few people saw his directorial debut – Brief Interviews with Hideous Men – he’s now returning with The Hollars, according to Screen Daily.

He’s also set to star in the film alongside the always excellent Anna Kendrick, Richard Jenkins and Margo Martindale.

James C Strouse wrote the script which will see Krasinski as ‘John Hollar, who gets yanked from the New York life he shares with his beautiful girlfriend back to his Middle America home town when his mother undergoes brain surgery.

‘Back in the place where his life began, Hollar must navigate the dysfunctional rhythms of his helpless brother, anxiety-prone father and over-eager high school girlfriend.’

The actor turned director comments, “This is one of the best scripts I’ve read, period. Jim has written one of the most tough-minded, sweet, funny and accurate stories about family I’ve seen. I am lucky to have a script like this to direct… and to have this cast is simply surreal.”

The movie will be sold at Cannes later this month.

Emma Stone Up For Woody Allen’s Next, Alongside Joaquin Phoenix

May 6, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

emma-stoneIt seems the recent controversy surrounding Woody Allen hasn’t put top names off working with him (Cate Blanchett’s Oscar win probably helped with that). Now Variety reports that Emma Stone has signed up for Woody’s new movie.

She joins Joaquin Phoenix who signed on last week.

As is usual for Woody, at this stage there’s no title and no plot details have been released. It’s believed to be an ensemble movie though, so expect plenty more actors to be announced soon.

This will be Stone’s second movie for the director, as she also stars in Allen’s upcoming feature, Magic in the Moonlight, which due out this summer.

Filming on his next movie is currently set to start in July.

Maleficent Character Posters Show Off Sam Riley, Sharlto Copley, Angelina Jolie & More

May 5, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

maleficent-character-poster6Understandably most of the marketing for Maleficent has concentrated on the title character, as played by Angelina Jolie. However there are plenty more characters in this reinvention of the classic Sleeping Beauty.

To prove it comes a selection of character posters showing off Princess Aurora (Elle Fanning), King Stefan (Sharlto Copley), Diaval (Sam Riley), the Pixies (Juno Temple, Imelda Staunton, Lesley Manville) and Maleficent herself.

Emma Thompson & Nick Offerman Off For A Walk In The Woods With Robert Redford

May 5, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Emma-ThompsonAfter years and years in development (it was originally planned as a reunion between Robert Redford and Paul Newman) it’s been announced that A Walk in the Woods has finally started shooting.

Along with that comes news of a few casting additions, including Nick Offerman, Kristen Schaal and Emma Thompson, who join the previously cast Redford and Nick Nolte.

The film is based on Bill Bryson’s best-selling memoir, which follows him (Redford) as he decides to hike the 2000-mile Appalachian Trail. Not wanting to go alone, he almost accidentally teams up with his long estranged high school buddy (Nolte) – a man who’s barely walked anywhere in his life. Along the way, the duo face off with each other, nature and an eccentric assortment of characters.

Ken Kwapis (He’s Just Not That Into You) is directing. He commented, “Bryson’s book is the ne plus ultra of travel memoirs. It’s also laugh-out-loud funny, and what excites me is giving two legendary dramatic actors the chance to flex their comedic muscles.”
