Oblivion Actress Andrea Riseborough Joins Birdman

March 8, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Andrea-RiseboroughWith shooting due to begin on Birdman in just a few weeks, director Alejandro González Iñárritu is having to put his cast together fast. At the beginning of the week it was revealed that Michael Keaton, Emma Stone, Naomi Watts and Zach Galifianakis had signed up, yesterday Edward Norton was added, and now Deadline reports that British actress Andrea Riseborough has joined the cast.

The movie is about an actor (Michael Keaton) who years ago became very famous playing an iconic superhero, but who’s career is on the skids. In the hope of making a comback, he attempts to pull off a Broadway adaptation of a Raymond Carver story. However it proves incredibly difficult, thanks to his egotistical lead actor (Edward Norton). Andrea Riseborough is playing Jane, although no other info has been released about the character.

Alejandro González Iñárritu is directing from a screenplay he co-wrote with Alexander Dinelaris. It’s going to be a big year for Riseborough, who’s got Welcome to the Punch, Disconnect, and Oblivion coming out in the next few months.

Oz: The Great and Powerful Sequel Already In The Works

March 8, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

oz-great-powerful-poster3Disney must have a fair amount of confidence in Oz The Great And Powerful, as the studio already has a sequel in the works. Variety reports that Mitchell Kapner, who co-wrote the first screenplay with David Lindsay-Abaire, has been hired to pen the follow-up.

It’s early days and nothing has been released about the story, although it will presumably follow Oscar Digg’s further adventures in Oz, between the first movie and the arrival of Dorothy. There are still a few legal issues they’ll have to get around through, as while L. Frank Baum’s novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz is in the public domain, anything specifically added by MGM for the 1939 classic The Wizard of Oz is out of bounds (as it’s owned by them), such as Dorothy’s ruby slippers.

Mitchell Kapner was hired to work on the sequel script months ago, although Disney hasn’t commented on the sequel plans at this time.

Iron Man 3 Fan Edition Poster Has Tony Stark Getting Close To Pepper Potts

March 7, 2013 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

Iron-Man-3-Fan-Edition-posterIron Man 3 is certainly going for the prize of 2013 release with the best posters. In the last few weeks we’ve had numerous characters posters, and now a new ‘fan edition’ poster has debuted, featuring Tony Stark cuddling up to a rather concerned look Pepper Potts.

There’s also a fresh international version of the trailer, with a bit of new footage, which you can see below.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Marvel’s “Iron Man 3” pits brash-but-brilliant industrialist Tony Stark/Iron Man against an enemy whose reach knows no bounds. When Stark finds his personal world destroyed at his enemy’s hands, he embarks on a harrowing quest to find those responsible. This journey, at every turn, will test his mettle. With his back against the wall, Stark is left to survive by his own devices, relying on his ingenuity and instincts to protect those closest to him. As he fights his way back, Stark discovers the answer to the question that has secretly haunted him: does the man make the suit or does the suit make the man?

‘Starring Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Guy Pearce, Rebecca Hall, Stephanie Szostak, James Badge Dale with Jon Favreau and Ben Kingsley, “Iron Man 3” is directed by Shane Black from a screenplay by Drew Pearce and Shane Black and is based on Marvel’s iconic Super Hero Iron Man, who first appeared on the pages of “Tales of Suspense” (#39) in 1963 and had his solo comic book debut with “The Invincible Iron Man” (#1) in May of 1968.’

The film’s due out in the UK on April 25th and the US on May 3rd.

Johanna Mason & Beetee Hunger Games: Catching Fire Fashion Portraits Debut

March 7, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

It’s starting to feel like we’ll be posting these Hunger Games: Catching Fire fashion portraits every day until the movie is released this November. We’ve already had Effie Trinket and Caesar Flickman, as well as Haymitch, Katniss and Cinna. Now it’s the turn of Beetee (Jeffrey Wright) and Johanna Mason (Jena Malone) – and if everybody from the Quarter Quell Hunger Games is getting a portrait, there’ll be a lot more to come.

Here’s the synopsis for the film: ‘Catching Fire begins as Katniss Everdeen has returned home safe after winning the 74th Annual Hunger Games along with fellow tribute Peeta Mellark. Winning means that they must turn around and leave their family and close friends, embarking on a “Victor’s Tour” of the districts. Along the way Katniss senses that a rebellion is simmering, but the Capitol is still very much in control as President Snow prepares the 75th Annual Hunger Games (The Quarter Quell) – a competition that could change Panem forever.’

Johanna is a former victor from District 7, who like many other champions is forced back into the arena. She’s a ruthless woman who almost immediately butts up against Katniss, although slowly starts to warm to her. Beetee meanwhile is an oddball that most people think will only last a few minutes back in the arena. However Katniss teams up with him and realises how useful his knowledge of electronics will be.

The film’s due out November 22nd.

Liam Neeson & Giovanni Ribisi Find A Million Ways To Die For Seth MacFarlane

March 7, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

liam-neeson-taken-pic1After the success of Ted, it’s little suprise that actors are queueing up for Seth MacFarlane’s follow-up, A Million Ways To Die. Charlize Theron, Amanda Seyfried, and MacFarlane himself are already set to star, and now THR reports that Liam Neeson has signed up, with Deadline adding that Ted star Giovanni Ribisi will also be part of the film.

A Million Ways To Die In The West is a comedy western about a mild-mannered farmer called Albert (MacFarlane) who chickens out when a gunfight erupts on his property. Annoyed at his singular lack of spine, his girlfriend (Seyfried) ditches him.

In the hope of winning her back, he makes a deal with the wife (Theron) of a notorious outlaw (Neeson), to teach him how to handle a gun and be a bit more of a badass. However, as he starts getting closer to the sharp-shooting woman, trouble erupts when her vicious husband reappears. Ribisi will play Albert’s friend Edward, described as “a simple shoe repairman who bears up with a girlfriend who won’t have sex with him, but as a working prostitute she’s doing it with everybody else.” He’s involved in a side plot where Albert tries to get Edward into the dating scene.

MacFarlane co-wrote the script with Ted cohorts Alec Sulkin and Wellesley Wild, with the movie being described as being similar in tone to Blazing Saddles. The plan is to start shooting in May.

The Hangover Part III Poster Suggests Vegas Might Not Survive The Wolfpack

March 7, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

hangover-part-iii-poster1
If this poster for The Hangover Part III is anything to go by, Las Vegas is going to have trouble surviving the return of the Wolfpack. That said, there’s a decent chance Sin City will be okay, as the poster actually parodies Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows Part 2.

Here’s the brief synopsis: ‘The Hangover Part III is the third and final film in director Todd Phillips’ record-shattering comedy franchise. This time, there’s no wedding. No bachelor party. What could go wrong, right? But when the Wolfpack hits the road, all bets are off.’

We’ve been promised a trailer within the next 24 hours, so look out for that. The film hits cinemas May 24th.

Will Jessica Chastain Be Jane To Alexander Skarsgard’s Tarzan?

Jessica Chastain

Jessica Chastain

It’s been quite a while since we heard anything about Warner’s planned Tarzan reboot. Harry Potter director David Yates is attached to helm, and several month ago it was rumoured Alexander Skarsgard was the first choice for the main role (although it hasn’t been revealed if he’s officially signed on).

Now the New York Post suggests the movie may have found its Jane in the form of Jessica Chastain. It isn’t known if an offer has been issued to the actress as yet, but it appears there are talks between the two sides.

The film will follow Tarzan after he’s left the jungle and come to England, but he’s then sent back when Queen Victoria sends him on a mission to investigate a conflict in the Congo. Samuel L. Jackson is said to be in talks to play George Washington Williams, a Civil War veteran who joins forces with Tarzan to stop a nefarious warlord.

David Yates is directing from a screenplay by Stephen Sommers and Stuart Beattie.

Edward Norton Joins Michael Keaton & Emma Stone In Birdman

Emma Stone is set to play Michael Keaton’s daughter, Naomi Watts is an actress starring in the play, while Zach Galifianakis plays the stage production’s producer.

Poltergeist Remake Gets Monster House Director Gil Kenan

March 7, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

poltergeist-dvd-coverEven before MGM’s bankruptcy there was talk of remaking Poltergeist, but it’s been moving very slowly through development. Now it’s got a little more inpetus, as Deadline reports that MGM has brought on director Gil Kenan (Monster House, City of Ember) to helm the movie.

Last November Sam Raimi signed up to producer, with David Lindsay-Abaire rewriting an earlier screenplay by Juliet Snowden and Stiles White. The original 1982 Poltergeist, which starred Craig T. Nelson, JoBeth Williams and Dominique Dunne, centered on a family living in a lovely new house, who are haunted by an evil presence that eventually takes their daughter into another realm. It’s not known if the remake will deviate from the original story, although it will likely be set in present day.

At the moment it hasn’t been revealed when it will shoot.
