Sam Worthington Is For The Dogs In A New Assassin Thriller

January 31, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Sam WorthingtonSam Worthington has several projects he’s attached to while he waits for Jame Cameron to be ready to shoot Avatar 2 & 3, and now Variety says he’s added another one, the indie thriller For The Dogs.

Phillip Noyce (Salt) is set to direct from a screenplay by Oren Moverman (working from Paul Leyden’s earlier draft), based on Kevin Wignall’s novel. It’s about a lone assassin who agrees to help a bright college girl exact revenge on those who mercilessly murdered her parents and younger brother.

The producers plan to look for distributors and funding at the Berlin Film Festival before kicking of shooting later this year.

Charlize Theron Up For Seth MacFarlane’s Million Ways To Die In The West

January 31, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

charlize-theronYou’d think Seth MacFarlane would be too busy preparing to host the Oscars to do much else at the moment (and that’s ignoring the fact he has three TV shows on the air), but he’s also busy moving forward on his follow-up to Ted, A Million Ways to Die in the West.

THR reports that he’s starting to piece the cast together, with Charlize Theron now in negotiations to star alongside Seth himself in the movie.

The ‘Blazing Saddles-style comedy’ is about a meek farmer whose girlfriend leaves him after he backs out of a gunfight. He meets the wife of a notorious outlaw who offers to teach him how to shoot. However what first seems to be a chance to win back his girlfriend turns into something else when he falls for the women. Things inevitably get complicated when the outlaw returns to reclaim his woman.

The plan is start shooting the film in May.

Tony Stark Is Falling In A New Iron Man 3 Poster

January 31, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

iron-man-3-teaser-poster2
It seems no movie featuring Iron Man is complete without a scene where Tony Stark plummets from his sky and we don’t know whether he’ll survive. He’s done it in both the Iron Man movies and The Avengers and now we’re even getting some foreshadowing of that happening in Iron Man 3 with a new poster.

It certainly makes for a great image, and suggests that Tony is going to need to upgrade his suit a bit in order to take on the evil Mandarin.

The image arrives ahead of a new promo which will debut during this Sunday’s Superbowl and should be online shortly afterwards. Iron Man 3 hits cinemas on May 3rd.

Source Code Helmer Duncan Jones Takes On World Of Warcraft Movie

January 31, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

duncan-jonesFor several years Sam Raimi was attached to direct a World Of Warcraft movie, but for a long time after he went off to make Oz The Great And Wonderful there was little movement on the project. Indeed many had assumed the whole idea had been canned, but then last August Charles Leavitt (The Seventh Son) was hired to take a new crack at the script.

Now Legendary Entertainment is finally moving forward with the game-to-film adaptation, bringing Moon and Source Code helmer Duncan Jones on board to direct. The $100 million plus project certainly a far bigger project than anything he’s taken on before.

There are no specific details on the plot of the film, but Legendary seem to like the script they have and are confident enough in it that they’re hoping to start production this fall for a 2015 release. Presumably the movie will take us into the world created by Blizzard Entertainment, which is filled with fantasy creatures taking on missions in order to rid the lands of evil creatures. Tom Hardy & Noomi Rapace Team Up For Child 44

January 31, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Tom Hardy in WarriorTom Hardy and Noomi Rapace certainly seem keen to work together, as a couple of months ago they both signed up to star in Animal Rescue, and now Variety reports the duo are also teaming up for Child 44.

News of the movie first emerged back in 2007 when Ridley Scott was attached to direct. Scott will no longer helm the movie, but is is still planning to produce. Instead Daniel Espinosa (Safe House) will take the director’s chair from a screenplay by Richard Price, adapted from the Tom Rob Smith novel.

The movie is set in 1950s Russia and centres on a former Soviet Police member who investigates a series of child murders but finds himself being targeted by his own government. Tom Hardy will play the Soviet officer, with Noomi Rapace as his wife, who pretends to be the loving partner, but is really concealing her true feelings.

Hardy and Rapace are going to be spending a lot of time together, as the Dennis Lehane adaptation Animal Rescue starts shooting in March, with Child 44 hoping to begin production in Budapest this May.

Bradley Cooper & Omar Sy Join Derek Cianfrance’s Chef

January 31, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

bradley-cooper-hangoverDerek Cianfrance has just made two films back-to-back with Ryan Gosling – Blue Valentine and Place Beyond The Pines – and now he wants to do the same with Bradley Cooper, who also stars in Pines and has now signed on for Cianfrance’s Chef. According to Variety, Untouchable star Omar sy will also be in the movie.

The comedy is about a disgraced chef (Bradley Cooper) who loses his prestigious restaurant in Paris. He decides to bring his old crew back together in an attempt to create the world’s greatest restaurant in London. It’s not known exactly who Omar Sy will play, although this will be the French actor’s first English-language film.

Cooper himself told French radio station RTL, “We’ve been talking about this project. I want to do it. It’s a beautiful story. And I love cooking. … [But] I’m going to make another film in March and after that I think I’m going to take a break and stay in Paris for Roland Garros (the tennis tournament set in late May).”

It sounds therefore that there’s no firm idea on when the movie might actually go in front of the cameras. Derek Cianfrance is directing from a screenplay by Steven Knight (Eastern Promises).

Zac Efron Up For Supernatural Thriller The Falling

January 31, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

zac-efron-paperboy-cannesZac Efron has mainly stuck to the romantic and comedy worlds in his bid for grown-up stardom (with a sejourn into odd drama for The Paperboy), but now he’s doing what he perhaps should have done all along and signed up for a supernatural thriller.

Unfortunately though, no plot details of the movie have been released, other than THR saying that the story centres on an otherworldly being. The film was initially developed internally at the studio, before being presented to both Zac Efron and producer Akiva Goldsman, who both signed on.

The producers are currently looking for a writer to tackle the script, based on a story crafted by Akiva Goldsman and Joby Harold (All You Need Is Kill). There’s no news on when they hope to shoot the movie.

Will Gluck To Direct Annie Makeover, But Willow Smith Will No Longer Star

January 31, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

It’s taken longer for producers Will Smith and Jay-z to come up with their new version of the musical Annie than originally planned, which means that now it’s ready to go forward, Willow Smith – who the film was originally designed as a starring vehicle for – is too old to play the title role.

will-gluckHowever that doesn’t mean they don’t want to make the movie anymore, as while it’s lost its star, it’s gained a director. Deadline reports that Will Gluck (Easy A, Friends With Benefits) is in talks to direct what’s being called ‘a broad-based re-imagining’ of the classic Broadway musical Annie, which brings the story into the modern day. Gluck will also revise the film’s screenplay, which was written by Emma Thompson and rewritten by Aline Brosh McKenna.

Next up is to find an actress to play Annie now that 12-year-old Willow Smith is too ancient for the role.

The Annie musical is about an orphan who gets the chance to live with the fabulously rick Daddy Warbucks, but whose chance at happiness is threatened by a scheme to get to multi-billionaire to pay a massive reward. Presumably most of the plot will remain the same, even if the story is moved from the 1930s to the present day.

First The Muppets…Again Promo Pics Arrive As Production Begins

January 30, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

muppets-again-promo-pic1
Walt Disney Studios has announced that The Muppets…Again has started production, and to celebrate they’ve released the first couple of images, which you can see above and below. One features Miss Piggy with Ricky Gervais, while the other has a whole band of Muppets hanging around in a station (if you’re wondering who’s in the telephone box, it’s director James Bobin) – as you can guess, Kermit and co. are coming to London as part of a European tour.

Here’s the press release announcing the start of production: The filmmaking team behind 2011’s celebrated film ’The Muppets’ reunites as Disney’s ’The Muppets … Again!’ kicked off production last week in London. The all-new global Muppets adventure welcomes Ricky Gervais, Ty Burrell and Tina Fey to the mayhem, along with Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, Walter and rest of the Muppets.

The film is directed by James Bobin (‘Flight of the Conchords,’ ‘Da Ali G Show’), who was just nominated for a BAFTA for ‘The Muppets’ (Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director or Producer), and produced by the Academy Award®-nominated team of David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman (‘The Fighter’, ‘The Proposal’). With a screenplay by Bobin and Nicholas Stoller (‘The Five-Year Engagement’), who is also executive producer with John Scotti, ‘The Muppets … Again!’ will feature music from Academy Award®-winning songwriter Bret McKenzie (‘Flight of the Conchords’), who won an Oscar® for best original song for ‘The Muppets’ (‘Man or Muppet’). The new film will hit the big screen March 21, 2014.

‘It’s great to be back working with the Muppets,’ said Bobin, ‘some of them even remember my name occasionally now. As for the movie, it’s a tip of the hat to the old-school crime capers of the ’60s, but featuring a frog, a pig, a bear and a dog—no panthers, even pink ones—along with the usual Muppet-y mix of mayhem, music and laughs.’

Disney’s ‘The Muppets …Again!’ takes the entire Muppets gang on a global tour, selling out grand theatres in some of Europe’s most exciting destinations, including Berlin, Madrid and London. But mayhem follows the Muppets overseas, as they find themselves unwittingly entangled in an international crime caper headed by Constantine—the World’s Number One Criminal and a dead ringer for Kermit—and his dastardly sidekick Dominic, aka Number Two, portrayed by Ricky Gervais, creator of ‘Derek’ and the Golden Globe®- and Emmy®-winning series ‘The Office’ and ‘Extras’.

The film stars Golden Globe-, Emmy- and SAG Award®-winning actress and writer Tina Fey (‘30 Rock’, ‘Mean Girls’, ‘Date Night’) as Nadya, a feisty prison guard, and Emmy Award winner Ty Burrell (TV’s ‘Modern Family’) as Interpol agent Jean Pierre Napoleon. Said Kermit the Frog, ‘This movie takes us places we’ve never been before. And trust me—this frog has never seen so much international flavour. I think audiences will eat it up—the entertainment, that is.’

Featuring a slew of surprising celebrity cameos, Disney’s ‘The Muppets … Again!’ will shoot on location in London and in Hollywood, as well as in the famed Pinewood Studios in Iver Heath, Buckinghamshire, just outside of London.
