Williams plays 28-year-old Margot, who’s happily married to Lou (Seth Rogen), a good-natured cookbook author. Here There Be Monsters For Jaume Collet-Serra & Bradley Cooper

April 5, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

For quite a while Legendary Pictures and Warner Bros. have developing Brian Hegeland’s script, Here There Be Dragon. It appears they’re now really keen to move forward, as Vulture reports Unknown and Orphan helmer Jaume Collet-Serra is in talks to direct, with Bradley Cooper in line to be offered the lead role.

If Cooper does decide to sign on, he’d play real-life Revolutionary War hero John Paul Jones (but set before his most famous war exploits). He’s wrongly stripped of his British naval commission and then get hired by a shipping magnate to investigate the disappearance of merchant ships in the Atlantic, with tales that they’re being attacked by a giant squid – although it could be a giant sea serpent at work.

Paul Greengrass & Robert Zemeckis sniffed around the project last summer but since since moved on, as has Brad Bird, who flirted with helming the movie in February.

Collet-Serra was set to helm Warner’s live-action Akira before that got put on hold/shut down. It’s not clear whether that film is completely dead and so they’re giving him Here There Be Dragons instead, or if Akira may still be revived at some point.

Skyfall Gets Tonia Sotiropoulou As A New Bond Girl

April 5, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

There is a tendency to say every female under 40 who signs up for a 007 movie is a Bond girl, and that’s what Greek actress Tonia Sotiropoulou is being described as even though her part is pretty small. She announced the news herself through her Facebook page (via MI6-HQ.com) that she will play Daniel Craig’s girlfriend.

She says, “Dear friends I officially announce I got a part in J. Bond new film!!! Turkey here I come! Thank u all for you love and support! This is officially the happiest day of my life bitches!!!!”

The actress will start shooting April 22 in Istanbul, Turkey, where she will film two or three scenes over five days. It is said that she also auditioned for the major role of Severine, which French actress Berenice Marlohe eventually won, but won the smaller part of Bond’s squeeze.

Vincent D’Onofrio & Vinnie Jones Join Stallone & Arnie In The Tomb

April 5, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger recently signed up to co-star together in The Tomb, and now Variety reports they’ve got a quartet of new castmates, as Vincent D’Onofrio, 50 Cent, Amy Ryan, and Vinnie Jones have signed on for the movie. James Caviezel was also recently added to the cast.

The film is set in the world’s most impenetrable prison, which was designed by security expert Ray Breslin (Stallone). However Ray gets framed for a crime, gets sent to the very prison he created, and must try and escape from the jail which he believes is completely secure.

Amy Ryan plays Breslin’s business partner and possible love interest, Vincent D’Onofrio plays the deputy director of the Prisons Bureau who convinces Ray to do one last job before retirement, while Vinnie Jones is playing a ruthless prison guard. No details are known regarding 50 Cent’s character.

Mikael Håfström is directing from a screenplay by Miles Chapman and Jason Keller, with filming set to begin later this year.

The Mummy Getting Rebooted Again With Jon Spaihts Writing

April 5, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Universal knows it’s got a potential cash cow with its classic monsters – The Wolfman, Frankenstein, etc. – but it’s had a very mixed record of trying to exploit that, with the only outright success being The Mummy movies. Now the studio is looking to reboot The Mummy franchise once again, with Prometheus screenwriter Jon Spaihts hired to pen the script, according to Variety.

The Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz Mummy movies proved very popular, with three movies between 1999 and 2008, as well as the spin-off The Scorpion King, which also has two sequels. Those movies were deliberately family friendly, but it sounds as if this new take may be a little more grown up, with Spaihts commenting, “I see it as the sort of opportunity I had with Prometheus, to go back to a franchise’s roots in dark, scary source material, and simultaneously open it up to an epic scale we haven’t seen before.”

Sean Daniel, who produced all three The Mummy movies, will return as a producer, although there’s no info on when this reboot might shoot or who will star.

Liam Neeson & Olivia Wilde In The Third Person

April 5, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Hollywood’s love of older man-younger woman relationships continues apace with the news 59-year-old Liam Neeson and 28-year-old Olivia Wilde will be dating in Paul Haggis’ film Third Person. Vulture reports they’ve both signed on for the movie.

Haggis also having a little to say about the story, confirming that “It’s about three story lines, three love stories, three relationships in three different cities that combine in a very odd way: New York, Paris, Rome.”

News of the movie first emerged in a report in the New York Post last week, which said that the film revolves around a nightlife reporter. However the director says that aspect is only a small part of the story. “I wanted one of them to have a job in New York. So after writing the script, I thought, ‘Oh, party reporting, that would be great.’ But literally, it’s just that. The character is not based on anyone, or anything like that. Imagine, the Post not having the correct information!”

Olivia Wilde will be playing the aforementioned journalist, with Liam Neeson as her boyfriend. The director wants to begin shooting in August, although it isn’t certain how firm that start date is. It’s only yesterday that it was revealed Neeson had signed on for the thriller Non-Stop, but it isn’t known whether that ot Third Person will shoot first.

Taylor Lautner In Talks For Grown Ups 2

April 5, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

It’s a big swing from 18 months ago when Taylor Lautner fever made it look like the young actor was going to take over Hollywood and he was asking massive amounts of money despite his lack of experience, as now the Twilight star is in talks for a supporting role in Grown Ups 2 for Sony Pictures and director Dennis Dugan.

THR has the news, but little is known about the part he will play, although it is said to be an important and fun role, which sees his character squaring off with Adam Sandler’s Lenny Feder. The actor does have some comedy under his belt, with roles in Cheaper by the Dozen 2 and The Adventures of Shark Boy & Lava Girl during his pre-werewolf career.

Original Grown Ups cast members Kevin James, Chris Rock, David Spade, Rob Schneider, Salma Hayek, and Maya Rudolph, are all expected to return for the seuqel, although it isn’t certain when it will shoot.

Alexander Skarsgard Gets Hidden

April 5, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Ever since True Blood started, Alexander Skarsgard has seemed on the cusp of major stardom, and he’ll be hoping the movie Hidden helps his rise, as Variety reports he’s just signed up for the film from directors Ross Duffer and Matt Duffer.

The movie is about a family that retreats to a bomb shelter to hide from a mysterious outbreak of something. It isn’t known exactly who Skarsgard will play, but presumably he’ll be in shelter. Ross Duffer and Matt Duffer sold their screenplay – which landed on the 2011 Black List – to Warner Bros. last year in a highly competitive bidding situation.

No production schedule was given, although it is said that the filmmakers’ deals included progress-to-production language, meaning the Warner needs to start production sooner rather than later.

There’s no doubt that Katy Perry is popular, becoming the only artist ever to spend more than a year in the US Billboard Top 10 (although admittedly with different songs). Now she’s coming to cinemas with the concert movie/documentary, Part Of Me, which looks at her life and loves, as well as her music. Indeed fans are being offered the chance to be involved of the film, engaging with Perry’s Twitter account to help choose which songs Katy will sing, and weigh in on her wardrobe options for the film.
