Thor: The Dark World Clip – Meet Christopher Eccleston’s Malekith

October 16, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

It’s only a couple of weeks until Thor: The Dark World hits cinemas. One thing every good superhero movie needs is a villain, and that’s where Christopher Eccleston’s Malekith comes in. You can take a look at the evil character in a new clip below.

Marvel’s Thor: The Dark World continues the big-screen adventures of Thor, the Mighty Avenger (Chris Hemsworth), as he battles to save Earth and all the Nine Realms from a shadowy enemy that predates the universe itself.  In the aftermath of Marvel’s Thor and Marvel’s The Avengers, Thor fights to restore order across the cosmos…but an ancient race led by the vengeful Malekith (Christopher Eccleston) returns to plunge the universe back into darkness. To defeat an enemy that even Odin (Anthony Hopkins) and Asgard cannot withstand, Thor sets upon his most dangerous and personal journey yet, forced into an alliance with the treacherous Loki (Tom Hiddleston) to save not only his people and those he loves…but our universe itself.

The movie arrives in UK cinemas on October 30th, and is out in the US on November 8th.

Hedwig is about an East German immigrant to the US, whose botched sex change operation leaves her with the titular ‘angry inch’. After her relationship with a GI breaks down, she starts to date young hottie Tommy Gnosis, who leaves her behind when he takes her music and becomes a rock star.

The new production is set to premiere April 22nd, 2014. While the show started off-Broadway in 1998, this will be the first time it’s been staged in New York’s main theatre district.

Alexander Skarsgard & Jamie Dornan On The Fifty Shades Of Grey Shortlist

October 15, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

alexander-skarsgard06It’s only a few days since Charlie Hunnam dropped out of playing Christian Grey in the movie adaptation of the sexy best-seller Fifty Shades Of Grey. However, with an August 2014 release date, they need to find a replacement asap. THR suggests a shortlist has been drawn up, with Alexander Skarsgard (True Blood) and Jamie Dornan (The Fall) two of the top contenders for the coveted role.

Universal Pictures is also returning to its earlier list of frontrunners, such as Theo James (Divergent) and Christian Cooke (Magic City). Garrett Hedlund had been in contention, but he is currently shooting Angelina Jolie’s Unbroken, so he is no longer available.

The studio has also hired Patrick Marber to perform a polish of the screenplay, based on Kelly Marcel’s drafts. Marber previously wrote the likes of Closer and Notes on a Scandal.

With shooting due to kick off in a few weeks time, expect to hear who has the role very role.

Kate Beckinsale Will Have The Face of an Angel In A Film About Amanda Knox

October 15, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Kate-BeckinsaleKate Beckinsale has signed up for The Face of an Angel, Michael Winterbottom’s upcoming drama about the trial of Amanda Knox. She joins the already cast Daniel Brühl and Cara Delevingne, according to Deadline.

The film revolves around the events surrounding Amanda Knox, a young an American woman living in Italy. She became involved in the November 2007 murder of her British roommate, Meredith Kercher. The victim was sexually assaulted, brutalised and then killed. Knox ended up charged with her killing. It appears Beckinsale will be a journalist who follows the case (based on Daily Beast senior writer Barbie Latza Nadeau, on whose book the film is based), and discovers how the Knox family’s heavy-handed efforts to control media coverage distorted the facts.

Interestingly, a while ago Colin Firth was attached to play the journalist – although at the point, the character was of course going to be a man. Delevingne is playing Knox (at one point Winterbottom wasn’t going to include Knox as a character in the movie at all, instead concentrating on the hoopla surrounding the case, so it may not be that be a role) with Daniel Brühl as a documentary filmmaker.

Ant-Man May Well Be Joseph Gordon-Levitt Or Paul Rudd

October 15, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

paul-ruddIt seems that with Guardians Of The Galaxy recently wrapped and Thor: The Dark World in cinemas in a couple of weeks, Marvel is now concentrating on who will play the title role in Edgar Wright’s Ant-Man. Now Variety is saying the insiders claim that Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Paul Rudd are currently the top two candidates and one is likely to land the part.

No offers have been made yet, and there’s still a chance another actor could swoop in and take the coveted role. That said, both Rudd and Gordon-Levitt are expected to meet with Marvel executives and director Edgar Wright again before a final decision is made, and current indications suggest it’s a toss-up between them.

Ant-Man follows Dr. Hank Pym, who invents a substance that allows him to be shrunk down to an ant’s size. Edgar Wright is directing from a screenplay he co-wrote with Joe Cornish (Attack the Block), based on the Marvel Comics character created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. The film’s due out summer 2015.

Russell Crowe Will Take On Mental Illness In Fathers and Daughters

October 15, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Russell-CroweRussell Crowe one an Oscar for playing a mentally ill man in A Beautiful Mind, so he may be hoping for more gongs with a new film he’s just signed up for. Variety reports he’ll take the lead in the drama Fathers and Daughters, for director Gabriele Muccino (The Pursuit of Happyness).

The movie is about the relationship a famous author and widow (Crowe), who struggles to raise his daughter while coping with a mental illness. The plot alternates between the daughter’s childhood and her life as a 30-year-old adult in New York, dealing with issues that stem from her unconventional upbringing. The studio is apparently eyeing a “major actress” to play the daughter, although there’s no news on who that might be.

Gabriele Muccino commented, “This is a performance-driven movie, and therefore I couldn’t ask for a better actor than Russell to deliver this intensely emotional drama. It’s edgy, heart-wrenching, and uplifting at the same time. To me, it feels like a classic American movie that recalls the great character dramas of the 70s like Kramer vs. Kramer and One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest.”

Shooting is scheduled to begin in December.
