Dunno Y 2 Teaser – Take a look at the follow-up to the controversial gay-themed Bollywood film

June 25, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Homosexuality it a massively controversial subject in India at the moment, with moves to provide legal and social protections coming up against entrenched and very vocal homophobia in large sections of the population.

One film that tried to combat that was 2010’s Dunno Y…Na Jaane Kyon, one of the few films to emerge from Bollywood with a sensitive gay theme (it’s billed as the first Indian film with two men kissing). The movie won several awards and became a success, despite protests greeting its premiere at the the Kashish Mumbai International Queer Film Festival and many cinemas boycotting the movie.

As Gay Star News points out, one of the actors in the film, Yuvraaj Parashar, was even disowned by his parents for appearing in the movie, saying they did not want to see ‘his face even in death’.

Now a sequel is coming, and thankfully Parashar hasn’t let his experience with the first put him off as he’s returning alongside original cast members Kapil Sharma and Zeenat Aman.

The first film was a drama following a man exploring his gay identity, while the sequel is billed as more of a rom com.

A teaser for the movie has now been released, which you can watch above. The film will debut in 2014. [Read more…]

Willow Creek Trailer – Bobcat Goldthwait helms a found footage bigfoot flick

June 25, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Bobcat Goldthwait may be best known to many as a comedian and as Zed in the Police Academy movies, but he’s also got himself a cult following as the director of film like Sleeping Dogs and God Bless America. Now he’s back with a micro-budget found footage horror, Willow Creek.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Jim and his girlfriend Kelly are in Willow Creek, California, to retrace the steps of Bigfoot researchers Patterson and Gimlin, who, in 1967, recorded the most famous film of the legendary monster. Kelly is a skeptic, along for the ride to spend time with her boyfriend between acting gigs. Jim, a believer, hopes to capture footage of his own, so his camera is constantly rolling.’

The movie apparently has more humour than the trailer suggests. No release date is currently set, but the film is playing at film festivals.

Oh and the prurient amongst you may want to look out for some very brief male nudity in the trailer above! [Read more…]

Adrien Brody Planning An American Heist Alongside Hayden Christensen

June 25, 2013 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

adrien-brodyWe haven’t seen much of Hayden Christensen recently, but he’s now set up Glacier Films with a fairly large slate of films he plans to produce and/or star in. One of the first of those is American Heist, which TheWrap reports now has some company for Hayden on-board in the form of Adrien Brody, Jordana Brewster and rapper-turned-actor Akon.

The film, which is a remake of the 1959 Steve McQueen movie St. Louis Bank Robbery, ‘follows two brothers with checkered pasts who get involved in an ill-fated bank robbery spearheaded by a gang of dangerous criminals. The heist tests the strength of their sibling bond and how far they will go for family.’

Sarik Andreasyan will direct the movie, which should go into production fairly soon. This will be the first of an enormous 11 movie movies Glacier plans to release in the next three years, so perhaps this is the beginning of Hayden Christensen movie mogul.

Toby Kebbell Or Jack Huston Could Be Frankenstein, Opposite Daniel Radcliffe’s Igor

June 25, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

toby-kebbellFor quite a while now, Daniel Radcliffe has been attached to 20th Century Fox’s upcoming version of Frankenstein. While the studio recently announced a release date of October 17th, 2014, there’s been no news on the rest of the cast, which is perhaps surprising as Radcliffe is playing what’s normally a side character, Igor.

However Deadline reports they’re now looking for the actor who will play Dr. Victor Frankenstein, with the two men currently leading the pack being Toby Kebbell and Jack Huston. However there’s no guarantee it’ll be either, as Fox is also looking elsewhere.

Kebbell, who made his first film appearance in the 2004 British crime thriller Dead Man Shoes, isn’t a big name, but has popped up in Oliver Stone’s Alexander, Woody Allen’s Match Point, Guy Ritchie’s Rocknrolla, and Steven Spielberg’s War Horse. Many expect his star to rise next year with a major role in Fox’s Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.

Jack Huston (who is the nephew of Anjelica Huston and Danny Huston, and grandson of director John Huston), is perhaps best known for playing the scarred Richard Harrow on HBO’s Boardwalk Empire. He previously worked with Radcliffe on the upcoming Kill Your Darlings, in which the two actors play Jack Kerouac and Allen Ginsberg, respectively.

Fox is hoping to sign someone within the next couple of weeks.

Chronicle’s Max Landis wrote the script for this new take on Frankenstein, with Paul McGuigan (Push) set to direct.

Sarah Bolger Having A Reawakening Alongside Olivia Wilde & Evan Peters

June 25, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

sarah-bolgerA decent young cast is coming together for the thriller Reawakening, with Olivia Wilde, Evan Peters, Donald Glover and Mark Duplass already signed up. Now Variety reports that they’re set to be joined by The Tudors and Once Upon A Time actress Sarah Bolger.

The slightly Flatliners-esque film, based on Luke Dawson and Jeremy Slater’s script, is about a group of students who find a way to bring the dead back to life. As you might expect, they soon discover that there are dire consequences to those actions.

David Gelb is set to direct, with Jason Blum (Sinister, Paranormal Activity) producing through his Blumhouse Studios company.

World War Z Sequel Moving Forward, With Brad Pitt Likely To Return

June 25, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

world-war-z-teaser-pic1World War Z was always planned as a franchise, but with its troubled production history – including the final third having to be completely reshot – many thought it would be lucky to get past a first movie. However, with the movie taking $66 million at the US box office in its opening weekend (analysts had been predicting about $40 million), and over $100 million in the rest of the world, it’s a strong enough start for Paramount Pictures to reveal they’re already moving forward with a sequel.

The studio has not announced whether director Marc Forster will return for the follow-up, but star Brad Pitt will likely return as U.N. employee Gerry Lane, who tries to track down the origins of a worldwide plague in World War Z. The actor revealed last week that he thinks there are plenty more stories from Max Brooks’ original novel to use for a sequel. With reports of trouble between Forster and Pitt, don’t be surprised if a new director is brought in for the sequel.

It’s very early days at the moment, and no writers have been attached to the sequel as yet.

Liam Neeson Back For Taken 3 & Being Paid $20 Million For It

June 25, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

liam-neeson-taken-pic120th Century Fox and EuropaCorp are obviously very keen to make Taken 3, as they’re in the process of closing a massive deal that will give Liam Neeson $20 million to return as Bryan Mills, according to Deadline.

The first murmurings that Taken 3 was in the works came last October when it was revealed that Taken and Taken 2 writers Luc Besson and Robert Mark Kamen were working on the script. However at that time Neeson wasn’t signed up, and it’s taken a lot of money to get him.

The first Taken earned over $225 million worldwide from just a $25 million budget and followed Liam Neeson’s Bryan Mills as he frantically tries to get his kidnapped daughter Kim (Maggie Grace) back from her captors. While last year’s sequel, Taken 2, was critically trashed, it nevertheless grossed $376 million worldwide, making a third movie very much worth making.

No director has been attached to Taken 3 yet, but it is believed that Taken 2 filmmaker Olivier Megaton may return to the helm. The studio is eyeing to hoping to shoot in February 2014 and are also keen to get Maggie Grace and Famke Janssen to come back too.

Marvel Adds A Third Unknown Movie For 2016

June 25, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

avengers-assemble-review-slide
With increased competition for the very best dates, Studios are setting the releases for their movies earlier and earlier – in the case of Marvel, they’re happy to announce a release date for a movie even when they won’t say what that film is.

A couple of weeks ago Marvel Studios announced the release of two films on May 6th, 2016 and May 5th, 2017, but wouldn’t say what they were. Now there’s another, as they’ve a set July 8th, 2016 release date for yet another unspecified movie.

While no details have been given regarding these untitled Marvel movies, they’re part of the studio’s Marvel Phase Three plans, which kick off with Ant-Man on November 6th, 2015, just a few months after Marvel Phase Two comes to a close with The Avengers 2 on May 1st, 2015.

However, it is known that for Phase Three Marvel is developing Doctor Strange and Black Panther projects, and of course there may also be more standalone Thor and Captain America movies (but not Iron Man, as while RDJ will be in the next two Avengers movies, he currently doesn’t want an Iron Man 4). At the moment we’ll just have to wait to see what these movies turn out to be.

In addition, Disney has issued a March 13th, 2015 release date for Cinderella, which has Lily James, Cate Blanchett, Richard Madden, Holly Grainger, Sophie McShera, and Helena Bonham Carter attached to star. Kenneth Branagh’s live-action fairy tale will start shooting later this year.

Sci-Fi Legend Richard Matheson Passes Away Aged 87

June 25, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

richard-mathesonRichard Matheson became a sci-fi legend thanks to writing the likes of Stir of Echoes and I Am Legend. Sadly he has now passed away at the age of 87. The writer’s death was confirmed by his publisher, who revealed that he had been ill for some time now. An exact cause of death has not been released.

Richard Matheson was born on February 20, 1926 in Allendale, New Jersey, the son of Norwegian immigrants. After serving as an infantry soldier in World War II and receiving a degree in journalism from the University of Missouri, he moved to California in the 1950s, where he began publishing numerous short stories and, eventually, novels.

His book The Incredible Shrinking Man was turned into a 1957 film, and he then started working in the movies himself, writing the screenplays for the likes House of Usher and Pit and the Pendulum. He also wrote several episodes of The Twilight Zone, including the famous William Shatner episode, Nightmare at 20,000 Feet, and Steel, which later served as the basis for Hugh Jackman’s 2011 movie Real Steel.

Other novels that were adapted for the big screen include What Dreams May Come, Hell House, Stir of Echoes, and I Am Legend. Steven Spielberg debut movie, 1971’s Duel, was based on the author’s short story.

Richard Matheson is survived by his wife Ruth Ann and four children, three of whom (Chris, Richard Christian and Ali Matheson) are also writers.
