Chris Evans Returns In First Captain America: The Winter Soldier Image

April 9, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

captain-america-2-pic1Marvel/Disney has announced that shooting has kicked off on Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and along with that announcement has come the first image from the movie, which you can see above. It’s not too revealing, although it does suggest the Cap will still be involved with SHIELD, and also likes to look a little bit like a patriotic American turtle.

Here’s the press release Marvel released to announce the start of shooting: Following in the footsteps of the record-breaking Marvel Studios’ release, “Marvel’s The Avengers,” production on the highly anticipated release, Marvel’s “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” has commenced in Los Angeles, Calif., with production also including locations in Cleveland, Ohio, and Washington D.C. Directing the film is the team of Anthony and Joe Russo (“Welcome to Collinwood”) from a screenplay written by Christopher Markus (“Captain America: The First Avenger”) & Stephen McFeely (“Captain America: The First Avenger”). Marvel’s “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” returns Chris Evans (“Captain America: The First Avenger,” “Marvel’s The Avengers”) as the iconic Super Hero character Steve Rogers/Captain America, along with Scarlett Johansson (“Marvel’s The Avengers,” “Iron Man 2”) as Black Widow and Samuel L. Jackson (“Marvel’s The Avengers,” “Iron Man 2”) as Nick Fury. In addition, film icon Robert Redford has joined the all-star cast as Agent Alexander Pierce, a senior leader within the S.H.I.E.L.D. organization. “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” is set for release in the UK. on April 4, 2014.

“Captain America: The Winter Soldier” will pick-up where “Marvel’s The Avengers” left off, as Steve Rogers struggles to embrace his role in the modern world and teams up with Natasha Romanoff, aka Black Widow, to battle a powerful yet shadowy enemy in present-day Washington, D.C.

Based on the ever-popular Marvel comic book series, first published in 1941, Marvel’s “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” features an outstanding supporting cast that includes Sebastian Stan (“Captain America: The First Avenger,” “Black Swan”) as Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier, Anthony Mackie (“The Hurt Locker,” “Million Dollar Baby”) as Sam Wilson/Falcon, Cobie Smulders (“Marvel’s The Avengers,” “How I Met Your Mother”) as Agent Maria Hill, Frank Grillo (“Zero Dark Thirty”) as Brock Rumlow and Georges St-Pierre (“Death Warrior”) as Georges Batroc. Rounding out the talented cast are Hayley Atwell (“Captain America: The First Avenger”) as Peggy Carter, Toby Jones (“Captain America: The First Avenger,” “The Hunger Games”) as Arnim Zola,Emily VanCamp (“The Ring 2,” “Revenge”) as Agent 13 andMaximiliano Hernández (“Marvel’s The Avengers,” “Thor”) as Agent Jasper Sitwell.

Marvel Studios’ President Kevin Feige is producing the film. Executive producers on the project include Alan Fine, Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Michael Grillo and Stan Lee. The creative production team on the film includes director of photography Trent Opaloch (“Elysium,” “District 9”), production designer Peter Wenham (“21 Jump Street,” “Fast Five”), editors Jeffrey Ford, A.C.E. and Mary Jo Markey, A.C.E. (“Star Wars: Episode 7,” “The Perks of Being a Wallflower”) and three time Oscar®-nominated costume designer Judianna Makovsky (“The Hunger Games,” “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone”).

Marvel Studios’ upcoming release schedule includes “Iron Man 3” on May 3, 2013, and “Thor: The Dark World” on November 8, 2013. The studio most recently produced the critically acclaimed “Marvel’s The Avengers,” which set the all-time, domestic 3-day weekend box office record at $207.4 million. The film, which shattered both domestic and international box office records, is Disney’s highest-grossing global and domestic release of all time and marks the studio’s fifth film to gross more than $1 billion worldwide.

In the summer of 2011, Marvel successfully launched two new franchises with “Thor,” starring Chris Hemsworth, and “Captain America: The First Avenger,” starring Chris Evans. Both films opened #1 at the box office and have grossed over $800 million worldwide combined. In 2010 “Iron Man 2,” starring Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Scarlett Johansson, Sam Rockwell, Mickey Rourke and Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury took the #1 spot in its first weekend with a domestic box office gross of $128.1 million.

In the summer of 2008, Marvel produced the summer blockbuster movies “Iron Man” and “The Incredible Hulk.” “Iron Man,” in which Robert Downey Jr. originally dons the Super Hero’s powerful armor and stars alongside co-stars Terrence Howard, Jeff Bridges, Shaun Toub and Gwyneth Paltrow, was released May 2, 2008, and was an immediate box office success. Garnering the number one position for two weeks in a row, the film brought in over $100 million in its opening weekend. On June 13, 2008, Marvel released “The Incredible Hulk,” marking its second number one opener of that summer.

Luke Evans Joins Dracula Year Zero

April 9, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Luke Evans

Luke Evans

Luke Evans will be going high-octane in a few months for Fast & Furious 6 and after that it seems he’ll be re-teaming with Universal Pictures for the horror project Dracula Year Zero, according to THR.

The actor beat out others such as Tom Hardy for the role, but Universal was apparently so impressed by Evans’ performance in Fast & Furious 6 that they wanted to find another project for him. The film was initially set up with Sam Worthington attached to star and Alex Proyas directing, however that fell apart due to budget problems. Dracula Year Zero moved to Universal Pictures last February, with Gary Shore signing on to make his directorial debut.

Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless wrote the latest draft of the screenplay, which blends mythological fiction and real history. The story follows the historical figure Vlad the Impaler (Luke Evans), who was the inspiration for Bram Stoker’s Dracula character.

It isn’t known when the movie will shoot.

Evil Dead Remake Tops The US Box Office & Jurassic Park 3D Thrills Audiences

April 8, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

evil-dead-remake-poster1While some still think the idea of remaking Evil Dead is sacrilege, US audiences have shown that they’re pretty happy about is, as the film has topped the box office with $26 million in its opening weekend. It’s a pretty good but not astounding start, although reports of a middling response from audiences may mean it’ll drop quickly down the charts.

The only other new entry was the re-release of Jurassic Park in 3D, which took $18 million in its first three days. That’s slightly behind The Phantom Menace but ahead of Titanic. With many being pretty impressed by the 3D conversion, it’s likely to do well over the coming days.

Take a look below for the US box office top 10 for the weekend of April 5th-7th.

1 Evil Dead (2013) $26.0 $26.0

4 Jurassic Park 3D $18.2 $18.2

Rush Trailer – Chris Hemsworth, Daniel Bruhl & Ron Howard take on F1

April 8, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Director Ron Howard is heading back to 1970s Formula 1 racing for Rush, and now the first trailer for the high-octane biopic has arrived, giving us a look at Chris Hemsworth as James Hunt and Daniel Bruhl as Niki Lauda.

Hunt was a dashing playboy with a wild social life, whose exploits off the track filled more column inches than what he did while racing. Lauda meanwhile was a quieter figure, but still an amazing and driven racer. Their rivalry became legend both on and off the Grand Prix circuit.

We’ll have to wait a while to see the film though, which also stars Olivia Wilde, Natalie Dormer and Alexandra Maria Lara, as it’s not due for release until September 2013. [Read more…]

Downton’s Dan Stevens Heads For Swallows & Amazons

April 8, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Dan-StevensHaving left Downton Abbey behind, Dan Stevens has been showing off a svelte new look (and darker hair), seemingly in the hope that he can segue into a major movie career. He’s already booked roles in A Walk Among The Tombstones and The Fifth Estate, and now Deadline reports that he’s in talks for a new cinematic take on Swallows And Amazons.

Swallows And Amazons is the first book in the children’s series by Arthur Ransome. Set in the Lake District in the summer of 1929, the books is about the Walker and Blackett kids whose respective sailboats are called Swallow and Amazon. When the adventurous and imaginative children meet, they join forces against their common enemy – the Blacketts’ uncle James whom they call Captain Flint.

Unsurprisingly, it’s Flint that’s the role Stevens is up for.

Casting is currently underway for the kids, with Calendar Girls producer Nick Barton heading behind the camera to direct. A summer shoot is planned.

New Pics Of Matt Damon In Elysium Emerge

April 8, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

elysium-preview-pic1
It’s been a long wait for Neill Blomkamp’s follow-up to District 9, but Elysium is heading our way in a few months, with an August 9th US release and a September 20th UK release now set.

The sci-fi flick is set in 2159 when two classes of people exist: the very wealthy who live on a pristine man-made space station called Elysium, and the rest, who live on an overpopulated, ruined Earth. Secretary Rhodes (Jodie Foster), a government official, will stop at nothing to enforce anti-immigration laws and preserve the luxurious lifestyle of the citizens of Elysium. That doesn’t stop the people of Earth from trying to get in, by any means they can. When unlucky Max (Matt Damon) is backed into a corner, he agrees to take on a daunting mission that if successful will not only save his life, but could bring equality to these polarized worlds.

Now a couple of new pics have emerged. If you’re wondering what the cobbled together tech that Damon is wearing is, it’s machinery that’s prolonging his life, but which makes him a threat to Elysium. The other pics features Wagner Moura, and Alice Braga.

Petunia Trailer – A great cast deal with family issues including a polyamorous Michael Urie

April 6, 2013 By Tim Isaac 2 Comments

Director Ash Christian certainly got a great cast of actors together for Petunia, including Eddie Kaye Thomas, Thora Birch, David Rasche, Christine Lahti, Brittany Snow, Michael Urie and relative newcomer Tobias Segal.

They’re all mixed up in a family drama that includes both gay and straight characters coming to terms with their complicated lives.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘An off beat family of New Yorkers must come to terms with their own misgivings about life, relationships and the sheer unpredictability of love itself. Petunia weaves together the lives of brothers Charlie (Tobias Segal), Adrian and Michael (Eddie Kaye Thomas) as they unlearn everything their psychoanalyst parents have taught them. While Michael’s cynical wife Vivian (Thora Birch) discovers she is pregnant, the family is also changing. Charlie’s would be boyfriend George (Michael Urie) is in a polyamorous relationship with fitness fanatic Robin (Brittany Snow) and Adrian has developed a unrelenting sex addiction. Meddling parents Felicia (Christine Lahti) and Percy (David Rasche) must decide whether to reignite the spark in their relationship or start all over again. Petunia is a film about a dysfunctional family unit on the verge of a nervous breakdown. This is the story of how they pick up the pieces.’

It looks like it could be a lot of fun. Wolfe Video will be releasing the film in the US later this year. It’s currently playing at film festivals. [Read more…]
