Turning cartoon characters live-action has proved profitable with the likes of The Smurfs and Alvin & The Chipmunks, so it’s not surprising Warner Bros has been looking at which animated properties they might want to bring to the big screen for a hybrid live-action/cgi outing.
Now Bleeding Cool has dug up some test footage of Hong Kong Phooey and Marvin The Martian, so we can see what they might have looked like under the direction of Alex Zamm (Beverly Hills Chihuahua 2). Unfortunately, the fact they’ve been put online suggests both projects are likely dead, although Warner may be monitoring response to them to see whether they want to move forward. However, don’t expect to see these incarnations anytime soon.
Both characters are kind of fun in a live-action world, but you can understand why the studio might be reticent about making feature-length versions – not least because neither are characters who are that well known to kids nowadays. Take a look at the test footage above.

Trance has had a slightly unusual production process, as it was shot during late 2011, but then director Danny Boyle had to go off and put together the Olympics Opening Ceremony, and so the editing and other post production was put on hold until the summer festivities were over.


We’ve been waiting years for Neill Blomkamp to make another movie following the success of District 9, but now Elysium is on its way. We’ve still got a little time until the film’s September 20th 2013 UK release, but to help prove it really is coming,
Wes Anderson is lining up an even more impressive cast than usual for his next movie, The Grand Budapest Hotel, with Tilda Swinton, Adrien Brody, and Edward Norton joining the project. Jeff Goldblum, Harvey Keitel, Willem Dafoe, F. Murray Abraham, and Mathieu Amalric have also been confirmed to star.
It certainly seems as if they’re trying to sell M. Night Shyamalan’s After Earth as being a bit like Avatar. You certainly got that feel from the trailer and now a new poster also gives a bit of a Pandoran feel, even though this is actually a futuristic Earth.
The weekend before Christmas is often fairly quiet, but this year a slew of new movies were released, hoping to line themselves up for the festive period (when they’ll be joined by the likes of Les Miserables and Django Unchained). However none of the new entries could beat the Hobbit, which itself isn’t holding up as well as many had hoped.
Many were surprised when it was announced a couple of months ago that Nicolas Cage had signed up to star in a remake of the evangelical Christian based movies, Left Behind. Now One Tree Hill star Chad Michael Murray is in talks for the movie.
