New Spider-man: Homecoming Trailer – Peter Parker has learned some lessons from Iron Man

March 28, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The whole idea of Spider-man joining Marvel’s superhero universe has certainly been intriguing. It was a success with Captain America: Civil War, but now Sony is returning with its own Spidey movie starring Tom Holland, Homecoming. However, they deal between Disney and Marvel means they’re still bridging studios with the film, as it will feature Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark/Iron Man.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘A young Peter Parker/Spider-Man (Tom Holland), who made his sensational debut in Captain America: Civil War, begins to navigate his newfound identity as the web-slinging super hero in Spider-Man: Homecoming. Thrilled by his experience with the Avengers, Peter returns home, where he lives with his Aunt May (Marisa Tomei), under the watchful eye of his new mentor Tony Stark (Robert Downey, Jr.). Peter tries to fall back into his normal daily routine – distracted by thoughts of proving himself to be more than just your friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man – but when the Vulture (Michael Keaton) emerges as a new villain, everything that Peter holds most important will be threatened.’

The movie will be in cinemas this July. Enjoy the new trailer below. [Read more…]

A Ghost Story Trailer – Casey Affleck & Rooney Mara star in David Lowery’s Sundance success

March 28, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Ain’t Them Bodies Saints helmer David Lowery went full-on Hollywood last year with a reimagining of Disney’s Pete’s Dragon. After that though he’s snuck in something rather more low-key, A Ghost Story, which got a tremendous reception when it debuted at Sundance.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Prematurely taken from this Earth, a spectral figure who was once a man (Casey Affleck) makes his way toward his former home, where he is fated to remain forevermore. Shrouded in a white sheet, he observes the lament of his grief-stricken lover (Rooney Mara). Bearing unseen witness to her pain, the wisp stands sentry for years to come, interacting only with time as it hurtles further and further forward, the remnants of his humanity quietly evaporating.’

The trailer for the movie has now arrived, which you can see below. It should be in cinemas this summer. [Read more…]

Straight Outta Compton’s O’Shea Jackson Jr. In Talks For Godzilla: King Of Monsters

March 28, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

After the success of Godzilla and King Kong, Warner has high hopes for its planned monster mash-up, Godzilla vs. Kong, which is planned for release in 2020. A year before that, they’re expanding the Godzilla universe with Godzilla: King Of Monsters.

Millie Bobby Brown has already been cast in a major role, with Kyle Chandler and Vera Farmiga as her parents. Now they may have company from Straight Outta Compton’s O’Shea Jackson Jr. (aka Ice Cube’s son), who Variety reports is in talks for the movie.

Michael Dougherty is directing and also co-wrote the script for the movie with Zach Shields. It’s expected to shoot this year for release in March 2019. No specific plot or character details have been released, although it known the sequel will be introducing us to various other monsters, such as Mothra and Rodan. The only actor from Godzilla who’s likely to return for the sequel is Ken Watanabe as Dr. Ishiro Serizawa.

Discreet Teasers – First look at Travis Mathews’ erotic, queer look at modern American masculinity & politics

March 27, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Travis Mathews has gained a lot of fans for his In Their Room series, as well as both the short and feature-length versions of I Want Your Love, and his collaboration with James Franco, Interior Leather Bar. Now he’s returning with Discreet, which has released a couple of teasers.

Mathews has also been talking to Out about the film, saying, “It’s an unconventional film, and one with a lot of entry points for viewers. I want to invite people to consider watching the film through the prism of the politics that shaped it, and to hopefully leave the theater considering the scope of what’s happening in America. Hopefully, some folks will be inspired to make their own work that responds to this dangerous moment we’re sifting through. It’s not the time for people to be quiet or isolate.”

In the movie, ‘After years in hiding and struggling to control his demons, an eccentric drifter returns home and discovers that his childhood abuser, the center of his pain, is still alive. Armed with this knowledge, the drifter plots his revenge, all the while navigating the perilous land of masculine fragility in modern-day America.’

As with Mathews earlier film, it isn’t a film that’s afraid to use explicit and erotic imagery, and has also been praised for being an incredibly timely look at the current politics in America, and most particularly the rise of the alt-right.

The director adds, “As I was driving around Texas listening to conservative talk radio I tried to understand how that vitriol was intersecting with the black box profiles that I saw on the gay hookup apps. The movie is really about gathering all of that bubbling masculine anxiety during the US presidential campaign then channeling it through the traumatized mind of one character on a difficult journey.”

Discreet recently premiered at the Berlin Film Festival and is currently playing film festivals. Take a look at the two teasers below. [Read more…]

First Official Look At Alicia Vikander As Lara Croft In Tomb Raider

March 27, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Despite an enormous amount of hype, the attempt to bring Tomb Raider to the big screen with Angelina Jolie as Lara Croft, underperformed at the box office. However, Hollywood has decided to have another go, this time with Alicia Vikander in the main role.

The first image has now arrived, which suggests this take won’t be a glossy and shiny as the early-2000s versions, instead reflecting the more realistic look the video games took in later instalments.

Here’s the newly released synopsis: ‘Lara Croft is the fiercely independent daughter of an eccentric adventurer who vanished when she was scarcely a teen. Now a young woman of 21 without any real focus or purpose, Lara navigates the chaotic streets of trendy East London as a bike courier, barely making the rent, and takes college courses, rarely making it to class. Determined to forge her own path, she refuses to take the reins of her father’s global empire just as staunchly as she rejects the idea that he’s truly gone.

‘Advised to face the facts and move forward after seven years without him, even Lara can’t understand what drives her to finally solve the puzzle of his mysterious death.Going explicitly against his final wishes, she leaves everything she knows behind in search of her dad’s last-known destination: a fabled tomb on a mythical island that might be somewhere off the coast of Japan. But her mission will not be an easy one; just reaching the island will be extremely treacherous. Suddenly, the stakes couldn’t be higher for Lara, who—against the odds and armed with only her sharp mind, blind faith and inherently stubborn spirit—must learn to push herself beyond her limits as she journeys into the unknown. If she survives this perilous adventure, it could be the making of her, earning her the name tomb raider.’

The film is currently due in cinemas March 2018.

New Ghost In The Shell Trailer – Scarlett Johannson takes on the classic Japanese anime

March 27, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

There’s been a bit of controversy of the live-action film version of Ghost In The Shell, and whether it’s right for Scarlett Johannson to play a character who was always Japanese in the original anime the movie is based on. Whatever people’s thoughts on whitewashing, the movie is on its way, and it’s managed to gain quite a lot of hype, partly thanks to some great visuals. A new, final trailer has arrived, that once more showcases this sci-fi world.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘In the near future, Major (Scarlett Johansson) is the first of her kind: I buy Viagra tablets at https://kenpo-sandwich.se/receptfritt.html Sverige. I have good erection. New Pirates of the Caribbean: Salazar’s Revenge Trailer – Javier Bardem really doesn’t like Jack Sparrow

March 27, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

I’m still not sure why the next Pirates of the Caribbean movie is called Dead Men Tell No Tales in the US, but in the UK it’s Salazar’s Revenge. Now a new trailer has arrived, which concentrates on why Javier Bardem’s Salazar hates Jack Sparrow so much and is determined to get his revenge..

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Thrust into an all-new adventure, a down-on-his-luck Captain Jack Sparrow finds the winds of ill-fortune blowing even more strongly when deadly ghost pirates led by his old nemesis, the terrifying Captain Salazar (Bardem), escape from the Devil’s Triangle, determined to kill every pirate at sea…including him. Dax Shepard Defends CHiPS Against Accusations Of Homophobia

March 25, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Dax Shepard and Kristen Bell believe in LGBT rights enough that they waited to marry until the right was extended to same sex couples. So you wouldn’t think he’d be having to fend off accusations of homophobia, but there’s been a bit of disquiet about the film version of CHiPS, which he wrote, directed and stars in, about whether some of its jokes are actually anti-gay.

That includes Michael Pena’s undercover FBI character, Poncho, accidentally face-planting in his partners crotch and freaking out while holding a naked Baker (Shepard), and also his discomfort when he’s [as reported by TheWrap) ‘confronted with a glory shot of Baker’s bulge in tighty whities in the police locker room, where other bros engage in bare-chested hugs and the camera watches the many bulges bounce off each another as Ponch’s face twists in horror’.

It’s humour rooted in gay panic, and while it can be funny when smartly used to show the ridiculousness of some expressions of masculinity, in many cases it’s used purely as a cheap laugh and rooted in homophobia itself. The latter is what some have accused CHiPS of – although TheWrap does acknowledge that the film tries to deal with some of the issues it raises in terms of Poncho’s hyper-masculinity.

There are also three gay characters in the movie itself – a corrupt cop and his armored car driver who are secretly a couple, and an inept policeman who is more interested in lusting after his fellow officers in their uniform, and talking about how many people he’s slept with. All are essentially used as a punchline.

Aware of how some might see the film’s humour, Shepard told HuffPo, “I do think it’s fun and challenging to have a topic like homophobia be in this movie and to do it correctly. That’s a very fun challenge. The intent isn’t homophobic, the intent is actually to be progressive and still deal with that issue because that issue is always going to be funny ― all those issues are going to be funny.”

Although it appears his heart is in the right place, it also doesn’t sound like he’s fully thought out what he’s doing, as while the intent may not have been homophobic, if the audience laughs out of a homophobic impulse, it’s not exactly progressive.

Bell, show also stars in CHiPS, adds, “There are certain things at face value you could say, because we’re exploring the topic, ‘Oh, that seems homophobic or that seems sexist,’ but it’s not. It’s the exploration of the topic and the exploration of the different points of view involved in the topic to open up the conversation to cure the disease that we’re riddled with…

“If you really look at it and you hear Dax’s arguments about why he wrote it, he’s a feminist, for sure, and he’s also about the most un-homophobic person you could ever find ― I mean, we waited until everyone could get married before we got married, based on principle.”

Robert Rodriguez May Direct The Remake Of Escape From New York

March 25, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

For several years, Hollywood has been talking about remaking John Carpenter’s 1981 classic, Escape From New York. A couple of time it got to the point of casting, before it was called off and plans were put on the back burner.

Now though it’s been given new life, with the news that Robert Rodriguez is in talks to helm a new take on the movie, according to THR. He follows in the footsteps of the likes of Len Wiseman, Brett Ratner and Breck Eisner, who have previously tried get it off the ground.

The original starred Kurt Russell as Snake Plissken, a one-eyed convict in a future where New York has been turned into a maximum-security prison for the most dangerous criminals. Snake is tasked with rescuing the President of the United States (Donald Pleasence), who is being held captive by a dangerous inmate (Isaac Hayes) after his plane crashes into the city.
