Wolf Pack Closing In On The Hangover Part III

January 26, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

With the two Hangover movies grossing over $1 billion worldwide, it’s not suprising Warner Bros. wants more, but they’re going to have to dig deeper into their pockets to ensure The Hangover Part III happens. Now THR reveals stars Bradley Cooper, Zach Galifianakis, and Ed Helms are asking for $15 million apiece to reprise their roles in The Hangover Part III.

It is believed that the deals are being finalised, which includes a back end percentage on top of the $15 million, and the actors will likely get what they requested. Bradley Cooper, Zach Galifianakis, and Ed Helms made a little under $1 million each for The Hangover. They got a decent pay bump to $5 million for The Hangover Part II, but with bonuses based on the film’s performance, each of the actors ended up making in the mid-teens from the movie. For a third they want $15 million up front, which ensures they’ll do very well even if the film’s a flop.

Back in December, Bradley Cooper revealed that The Hangover Part III will likely start shooting in September, although it seems the studio wants to get started earlier then that. Insiders claim Warner Bros. wants to go into production this summer, so the comedy sequel can hit a Memorial Day 2013 release. Little is known about the story, but it is said to be centered around The Wolf Pack’s home city of Los Angeles.

The Grey Red Band Trailer

January 25, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Early trailers for The Grey made it seem oddly dreamy and ethereal, but this red band trailer is upping the intensity and going for the action jugular, as Liam Neeson and co. get thrust into the wilderness and have to face off against a pack of wolves. I can already see the press releases from the wildlife charities saying wolves aren’t really the bad guys. The movie sees Liam Neeson as part of an Alaska oil drilling team who struggle to survive after a plane crash strands them in the wild. Hunting the humans are a pack of wolves who see them as intruders. The film’s out on Friday.

Lena Headey Joins Ethan Hawke In Viglandia

January 25, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

While I do think Ethan Hawke could sometimes do with taking supporting roles in higher profile films rather than trying to be always be a leading man, he does often pick interesting projects. A couple of weeks ago it was revealed he’d signed on to star in Viglandia for director James DeMonaco.

Now he’s got some company, as Variety reports that Lena Headey is set to co-star in the movie. Unfortunately the news of her casting has come with many details on the plot, which are being kept under wraps by DeMonaco and the guys at Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes (which is backing the film).

We do know that Viglandia will be a very low-budget futuristic thriller.

Headey is best known for 300, Games Of Thrones and The Sarah Connor Chronicles and will be seen soon as the villain in Dredd.

Catherine Zeta-Jones Feels The Side Effects For Steven Soderbergh

January 25, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

While there are a few financing problems with Steven Soderbergh’s movie The Side Effects, plans are moving ahead regardless, as Deadline reports that Catherine Zeta-Jones is in talks to reunite with Soderbergh (after Traffic and Ocean’s Twelve) on the movie.

Variety reports that that while it was announced last week that Megan Ellison’s Annapurna Pictures would finance the movie, they’ve since backed out, and so Soderbergh is currently fielding offers from other places, with a deal expected to be signed before the end of Sundance. Earlier this month is was revealed Blake Lively, Jude Law, and Channing Tatum have also signed on, but with no money in place, their involvement isn’t 100% certain.

The film centres on Blake Lively’s character, a woman who gets addicted to prescription drugs out of fear that her husband (Channing Tatum) will be released from prison soon. Jude Law plays the woman’s new therapist, while Catherine Zeta-Jones will he Dr. Eric Siebert. The drama is said to be set in the world of psychopharmacology, the study of how drugs affect the human mind.

Steven Soderbergh is directing Side Effects from a screenplay by Scott Z. Burns. Production is scheduled to begin this April in New York, assuming the money comes together.

Ron Livingston and Lili Taylor Join The Conjuring

January 25, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

A couple of days ago it was announced that Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga has signed up to star The Conjuring for director James Wan (Saw, Insidious). Now they have some company, as Variety reports that Ron Livingston and Lili Taylor have joined the supernatural thriller.

The movie is about a husband and wife team of demonologists (Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga) who investigate a Rhode Island farmhouse. Ron Livingston and Lili Taylor will play the husband and wife who move into the farmhouse with their children, and encounter a number of evil spirits (last week it had appeared Wilson and Farmiga would be the husband and wife who’ve been haunted).

James Wan is directing The Conjuring from a screenplay by Chad Hayes and Carey Hayes. The film is based on the supposedly true story of the Perron family, and paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren, which took place during the 1970s. Production is scheduled to begin this March in North Carolina.

The Crow Remake Gets Director F. Javier Gutierrez

January 25, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

For the last few months, plans to remake The Crow have been thrown into the air after The Weinstein Company claimed they owned certain rights to the characters, meaning Relativity Media’s plan to reboot the franchise have been in jeopardy. However a couple of days ago it was announced the two sides had agreed terms that would end the legal action.

It seems that they’ve been plotting how they’d move forward while the legal wheels have been turning, as they’ve already closed a deal with F. Javier Gutiérrez (Before the Fall) to direct the reinvention of The Crow, with writer Jesse Wigutow signed on to pen the script.

Gutiérrez’s directorial debut, the Spanish-language apocalyptic thriller Before the Fall (Tres Dias), became an international and award-winning sensation after premiering at the Berlinale Film Festival in 2008. He’s also currently developing Dimension Films’ sci-fi thriller The Greys.

The Crow adaptation is planned as a gritty reboot of the iconic character of Eric Draven, who returns from the grave as The Crow on a mission to avenge his wife’s murder, so that his soul can finally rest.

Previously the likes of Bradley Cooper and Mark Wahlberg have been attached to star in the film, but at the moment there’s no cast announced and it’s uncertain when it might shoot. (Source: Variety)

Emma Roberts Joins I Am My Family Secret

January 25, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Emma Roberts must have had a good time making Lymelife, as she’s reuniting with the director of that movie, Derick Martini, for I Am My Family Secret, and according to Deadline, Craig Roberts has joined the cast as well.

The film is about two brothers who live vastly different lives. They discover their parents have been hiding a secret from them for over 20 years, which drastically impacts both their lives. It isn’t immediately clear what roles Emma Roberts and Craig Roberts will play in the drama.

Derick Martini is directing I Am My Family Secret from his own original screenplay. It isn’t certain when it’ll shoot.

Liam Hemsworth Is Timeless

January 25, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

If things keep going in the direction they are, the Hemsworth brothers will end up owning Hollywood! Younger brother Liam’s star is set to follow elder sibling Chris’ into the stratosphere this year with The Hunger Games and The Expendables 2 and he’s already got a couple other high profile projects lined up. Now he’s taking centre stage in Timeless, for director Phillip Noyce.

The film centres on a man who is tormented by the things he left unsaid before his wife passed away. He uses the money his wife left him to build a time travel device, so that he can see her one last time.

Phillip Noyce is directing Timeless from a screenplay by Bill Kelly (Enchanted). Production is scheduled to begin in July. (Source: Moviehole)

LGBT Characters Get A Few Nods In 2012 Oscar Nominations

January 24, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Today Jennifer Lawrence and AMPAS President Tom Sherak got up extra early to announce the Oscar nominations (it was 5.30am LA time) so that we can pore over them for weeks in the run up to the ceremony on February 26th.

Early reaction has been largely favourable, with the sense that the Academy has done a pretty good job, barring some grumbling over the lack of Drive in any of the categories barring Sound Editing and Michael Fassbender missing out on a Best Actor nom for Shame.

Surprising many, it’s Hugo that has the most nominations with 11, followed by the expected leader, The Artist, with 10.

On the LGBT front, Christopher Plummer has, as expected, picked up a Best Supporting Actor nomination for playing an aging gay man in Beginners. After his Golden Globe win he’s now the favourite in that category.

What was less certain was whether Glenn Close would get a nom for Albert Nobbs, in which she plays a woman living as a man. Thankfully she got a Best Actress nomination, while Janet McTeer got a Best Supporting Actress nod for the same movie. Rooney Mara also got a Best Actress nod for playing bisexual Lisbeth Salander in The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.

Although the AIDS documentary We Were Here made the longlist for the Best Documentary Oscar, it sadly wasn’t included among the final nominees. Other movies with LGBT themes that were shut out include J. Edgar and Weekend (although no one had expected the latter to be nominated, no matter how much critics love it).

Gay director Tate Taylor missed out on a Best Director nomination, but his film, The Help, picked up a Best Picture nomination, along with three nods for for its female stars in the acting categories. Likewise lesbian Iron Lady helmer Phylidda Lloyd didn’t get a nomination herself, but Meryl Streep is the frontrunner for Best Actress for her performance in the movie.

So you can decide for yourself whether the Academy got it right, here’s the full list of nominees in all categories. Let the bitching about Olivia Colman not being nominated for Tyrannosaur but Jonah Hill getting one for Moneyball commence:

Watch The Oscar Nominations Live Here At 1.30pm GMT

January 24, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Today’s the day we get to find out which films are going to be in the running for the Oscars, with the Academy Of Motion Pictures Arts & Sciences set to announce the nominations for the big awards. They’ll be revealing them at the ungodly hour of 5.30am Los Angeles time (that’s so it’s in time for the morning newscasts on the East Coast, where it’ll be 8.30am), but thankfully it means if you’re in Europe you get them at the far more reasonable time. And if you want to, you can watch the nomination live right here!

Is The Artist going to get the most nominations (as expected)? Will Christopher Plummer be nominated for playing gay in Beginners? How about Glenn Close’ woman living as a man in Albert Nobbs? Is The Hangover Part 2 going to sweep the board (umm, no)? We’ll know a lot more after 1.30pm, so watch the nominations live.
