Nymphomaniac Trailer – Take a NSFW look at Shia LaBeouf, Jamie Bell & more in Lars Von Trier’s next

November 22, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

nymphomaniac-poster2
For the first time in his career, Lars Von Trier has given up final cut for Nymphomaniac, largely because the version he’s happy with is 5 1/2 hours long, and even he realised that was never going to be commercially released. The last we heard there was talk of cutting it down to two 2-hour films, which is how it’ll apparently be coming (although there’s still a chance VOn Trier’s butt-numbing version will appear one day at festivals, apparently).

They’ve also dropped plans for hardcore and softcore versions, as there will now just be a the one with full-on sex, but distributors around the globe will be free to blur out whatever bits they reckon are two rude. We get a taste of that rudeness in the trailer.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘The film is a wild and poetic story of a woman’s erotic journey from birth to the age of 50 as told by the main character, the self-diagnosed nymphomaniac, Joe (Charlotte Gainsbourg). On a cold winter’s evening the old, charming bachelor, Seligman (Stellan Skarsgard), finds Joe beaten up in an alley. He brings her home to his flat where he cares for her wounds while asking her about her life. He listens intently as Joe over the next 8 chapters recounts the lushly branched-out and multi-faceted story of her life, rich in associations and interjecting incidents.’

Shia LaBeouf, Jamie Bell, Christian Slater, Willem Dafoe, Uma Thurman, Connie Neilsen and Stacy Martin also star. It should arrive in the UK next March.

Take a look at the new poster above and the rude trailer, but beware as it is indeed NSFW. [Read more…]

New Need For Speed Trailer – Revving things up with Aaron Paul

November 18, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

When DreamWorks announced they were making a movie version of the videogame Need For Speed, it sounded like they were trying to cash in on the Fast & Furious audience, and that certainly seems to be true from the evidence of this first trailer. That doesn’t mean it won’t be worth a look though!

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Fresh from prison, framed for a crime he didn’t commit, street racer Tobey Marshall (Breaking Bad’s Aaron Paul), is hell bent on settling the score.

‘With revenge at the forefront of his mind, he gears up for the ultimate cross-country race heaving with adrenaline-charged muscle machines and high-octane super cars. When his powerful rival (Dominic Cooper – The Devil’s Double) places a massive bounty on his head, the wheels are set in motion and the race is finally on.

‘Based on the most successful racing game franchise of all time, bursting with explosive action and exhilarating stunts, NEED FOR SPEED accelerates into UK cinemas on MARCH 14, 2014 by Entertainment One.’ [Read more…]

First Proper Trailer For HBO’s Gay-Themed Series Looking Arrives, Starring Jonathan Groff

November 15, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

A few days ago a very brief teaser to HBO’s series about a groups of gay friends living in San Francisco, Looking Arrived, but it was essentially just a logo with pictures behind. Now it’s been followed by a proper trailer, which may only be 30 seconds long but gives us the first real footage from the show, featuring the likes of Jonathan Groff and Russell Tovey.

The show is said to be a mix of Tales From The City and Girls, following mainly gay men in San Francisco. Groff plays Patrick, who’s professionally very successful as a video game developer, but his personal life is a bit of a disaster area. Frankie Alvarez is Patrick’s best friend, Augustin, whose ego and feisty politics make it difficult for him to settle down with a boyfriend.

Looking is set to begin airing in the US on January 19th, 2014, and should spread to other parts of the globe soon afterwards. [Read more…]

Noah Trailer – Russell Crowe, Douglas Booth & Logan Lerman are gonna need a bigger boat

November 14, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Yesterday we had the first poster for Noah, and now it’s time for the trailer, which starts off looking a bit weird, before it gets a whole lot more epic with giant boats, loads of CGI animals and a massive, is slightly backwards flood (where the water comes up from the ground rather than falling from the sky).

Here’s the brief official synopsis: ‘Academy Award® winner Russell Crowe stars as Noah, a man chosen by God for a great task before an apocalyptic flood destroys the world.’

Emma Watson, Jennifer Connolly, Ray Winstone and Anthony Hopkins co-star. And who knew Noah had such hot sons, with Logan Lerman and Douglas Booth as Shem and Ham? Darren Aronofsky’s film is due out March 28th 2014. [Read more…]

Maleficent Teaser Trailer – Angelina Jolie takes on the bad fairy

November 13, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

After yesterday’s poster comes three new stills and the first teaser trailer for Disney’s Maleficent, which focusses on Angelina Jolie as the wicked fairy who cursed Princess Aurora in Disney’s 1959 classic Sleeping Beauty. And it’s looking pretty cool.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘From Disney comes “Maleficent”—the untold story of Disney’s most iconic villain from the 1959 classic “Sleeping Beauty.” A beautiful, pure-hearted young woman, Maleficent has an idyllic life growing up in a peaceable forest kingdom, until one day when an invading army threatens the harmony of the land. Maleficent rises to be the land’s fiercest protector, but she ultimately suffers a ruthless betrayal—an act that begins to turn her pure heart to stone. Bent on revenge, Maleficent faces an epic battle with the invading king’s successor and, as a result, places a curse upon his newborn infant Aurora. As the child grows, Maleficent realizes that Aurora holds the key to peace in the kingdom—and perhaps to Maleficent’s true happiness as well.’

The film will be out Spring 2014.

How To Survive A Plague (Cinema)

November 8, 2013 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

Starring: Larry Kramer, Peter Staley, Iris Long
Director: David France
Running Time: 120 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: November 8th 2013 (UK)

I was alive during the early days of the AIDS epidemic but was too young to really understand what was going on. It’s always shocking to see something like How To Survive A Plague, about events that took place while I was around but which seem so far from a world where gay people are increasingly being allowed to get married. Sure there are still problems but it’s incredible that just 20-30 years ago politicians were happy to allow millions around the world to die, just because they didn’t want to be seen to doing anything that might help gay people. Hugh Jackman & James Mangold Coming Back For Another Wolverine Movie

November 5, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

wolverine-review-slide
Earlier this year Hugh Jackman said that after X-Men: Days Of Future Past he was planning to have a bit of a break before playing Wolverine again, however it’s now been revealed that he’s agreed to reteam with director James Mangold for a third Wolverine spin-off movie, according to Deadline.

This will be the 8th time Hugh Jackman has played the character, after two solo films and five X-Men movies. Perhaps surprisingly, this will be the longest any actor has played the same superhero on the big screen.

Although The Wolverine was only a modest success in the States, grossing $132 million, it pulled in over $280 million overseas for a total worldwide gross of $413 million. That makes it the second highest-grossing X-Men movie, just behind X-Men: The Last Stand, which earned $459 worldwide. With Days Of Future Past expected to be a big hit next summer, 20th Century Fox has decided it’s worth putting another Wolverine movie into development.

James Mangold will write the treatment, although there’s no news on what the plot may be.
