Taekwondo Trailer – Martial arts, bromance and homoeroticism in the gay-themed film

February 6, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Marco Berger has made a few good gay-themed movies, including Hawaii, Absent and Plan B. He also gave us a bit of voyeurism with the short film collection, Sexual Tension: Volatile. Martin Farina also got a bit voyeuristic with his documentary, Fulboy. Now the two men have teamed up for Taekwondo, and with the duo together it’s fair to say the movie will be full of barely contained sexuality.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Fernando is on holiday with his closest friends in a beautiful country house in a chic suburb of Buenos Aires. Without the presence of their girlfriends the boys are eager to talk about their deepest feelings, their sexual desire for the girls, their fear of the future and their conflicts. Disconnected from the outside world, they do little more than bask in the hot sun, play in the swimming pool, smoke pot and drink. As in all men only situations, they feel free to walk around naked or half- naked, being in such intimate proximity to each other.

‘In that context, Fernando decides to invite a newcomer, Germán, a close friend from his Taekwondo class. Germán is quickly by the group, but also has a preference that Fernando ignores- he is attracted to men. Little by little the two friends get closer and more intimate, verging quickly on romance. Bringing a kind of potent sexuality in this totally bro environment, they need to decide whether to be explicit about it or not. Brimming with overwhelming sexuality throughout its entire running time, TAEKWONDO is steaming with eroticism and lust.’

The movie is due out in the UK on March 27th. Take a look at the trailer below. [Read more…]

Guardians Of The Galaxy certainly wasn’t lacking in action, but it appears that they may be upping the stakes for Volume 2, as this new Extended Look is packed to the brim with sci-fi fighting, flying and general craziness. Baywatch Super Bowl Spot – Zac Efron’s star-spangled speedos steal the show

February 6, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

For people who aren’t that interested in American Football, probably the most memorable moment from the Super Bowl wasn’t on the field, it was in the ad break, when a spot for the big screen version of Baywatch featured Zac Efron in some very small stars and stripes speedos. I’m not sure whether that would be classed as patriotic or not?

Here’s the brief synopsis: ‘BAYWATCH follows devoted lifeguard Mitch Buchanan (Dwayne Johnson) as he butts heads with a brash new recruit ( Zac Efron). Together, they uncover a local criminal plot that threatens the future of the Bay.’ Priyanka Chopra, Alexandra Daddario, Jon Bass, Kelly Rohrbach and Ilfenesh Hadera also star.

You can take a look at the Super Bowl spot below. The movie will be in cinemas in May. [Read more…]

Logan Super Bowl Spot – Hugh Jackman returns for one last mutant adventure

February 6, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

There’s been some pretty good buzz about Logan, and from what we’ve seen it’s like nothing we’ve seen from the X-Men universe before, which is underlined by this Super Bowl spot. It certainly shows that this is a far cry from Days Of Future Past, Apocalypse, or even The Wolverine. But it does look like it might be good.

Here’s the short synopsis: ‘In the near future, a weary Logan cares for an ailing Professor X in a hide out on the Mexican border. But Logan’s attempts to hide from the world and his legacy are up-ended when a young mutant arrives, being pursued by dark forces.’

What that doesn’t quite get across is the rather bleak, western feel. The film is out March 1st. You can watch the Super Bowl spot and a new clip below. [Read more…]

Fast & Furious 8 Super Bowl Spot – Back into the world of OTT cars and action

February 6, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

I don’t know why we get boring Fast & Furious names in the UK, but sadly we’re just getting Fast & Furious 8, while in the US it’ll be the more interesting The Fate Of The Furious. The give us a new taste, as Super Bowl spot has been released.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘On the heels of 2015’s Fast & Furious 7, one of the fastest movies to reach $1 billion worldwide in box-office history and the sixth-biggest global title of all time, comes the newest chapter in one of the most popular and enduring motion-picture serials of all time: Fast & Furious 8.

‘Now that Dom and Letty are on their honeymoon and Brian and Mia have retired from the game—and the rest of the crew has been exonerated—the globetrotting team has found a semblance of a normal life. But when a mysterious woman (Oscar® winner Charlize Theron) seduces Dom into the world of crime he can’t seem to escape and a betrayal of those closest to him, they will face trials that will test them as never before.

‘From the shores of Cuba and the streets of New York City to the icy plains off the arctic Barents Sea, our elite force will crisscross the globe to stop an anarchist from unleashing chaos on the world’s stage…and to bring home the man who made them a family.

‘For Fast & Furious 8, Vin Diesel is joined by a returning all-star cast that includes Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Nathalie Emmanuel, Elsa Pataky and Kurt Russell. In addition to Theron, the series welcomes newcomers Scott Eastwood and Oscar® winner Helen Mirren. The film is directed by F. Gary Gray (Straight Outta Compton) and produced by returning producers Neal H. Moritz, Michael Fottrell and Diesel.’

The movie will be in cinemas next April. [Read more…]

John Wick: Chapter 2 Super Bowl Spot – The action flick trolls Fifty Shades fans

February 6, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

You wouldn’t think those people who can’t wait for the release of Fifty Shades Darker would be the same ones hoping to watch John Wick: Chapter 2, but the action movie decided to have a bit of fun with them with its Super Bowl spot. The short ad initially looks like it will be for Fifty Shades, before revealing itself to be something else.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘In this next chapter following the 2014 hit, legendary hitman John Wick [Keanu Reeves] is forced back out of retirement by a former associate plotting to seize control of a shadowy international assassins’ guild. Bound by a blood oath to help him, John travels to Rome where he squares off against some of the world’s deadliest killers.’

A Cure For Wellness Super Bowl Spot – Gore Verbinski takes Dane DeHaan into a strange world

February 6, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

There were quite a few movies that ponied up the cash for a 30 second spot during the Super Bowl. They might be expensive, with with over 100 million Americans watching, it can be worth it. One of the films that featured during the game break was The Cure For Wellness.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘An ambitious young executive is sent to retrieve his company’s CEO from an idyllic but mysterious “wellness center” at a remote location in the Swiss Alps. He soon suspects that the spa’s miraculous treatments are not what they seem. When he begins to unravel its terrifying secrets, his sanity is tested, as he finds himself diagnosed with the same curious illness that keeps all the guests here longing for the cure.’

The movie will be in UK cinemas on February 24th. [Read more…]

Pirates of the Caribbean: Salazar’s Revenge Extended Super Bowl Spot – Back on the high seas with Jack Sparrow

February 6, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Disney hasn’t hyped the return of Pirates of the Caribbean with Salazar’s Revenge (Dead Men Tell No Tales in the US) as much as we might have expected. However, they did give the movie a Super Bowl spot, with an extended version released online, which you can take a look at below.

It also confirms the return of Orlando Bloom, who looks like he’s been having a few problems since we last saw him in the franchise.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Thrust into an all-new adventure, a down-on-his-luck Captain Jack Sparrow finds the winds of ill-fortune blowing even more strongly when deadly ghost pirates led by his old nemesis, the terrifying Captain Salazar (Javier Bardem), escape from the Devil’s Triangle, determined to kill every pirate at sea…including him. Captain Jack’s only hope of survival lies in seeking out the legendary Trident of Poseidon, a powerful artifact that bestows upon its possessor total control over the seas.’

It’ll be in cinemas in May. [Read more…]

The 9th Life Of Louis Drax (DVD Review) – Jamie Dornan gets mysterious and magical realist

February 5, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Aaron Paul, Aiden Longworth, Jamie Dornan, Oliver Platt, Sarah Gadon
Director: Alexandre Aja
Running Time: 108 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: February 6th 2017 (UK)

The biggest problem with The 9th Life Of Louis Drax is the constant sense that this is a movie that could have been absolutely brilliant, but it sadly isn’t. It’s not bad, and there’s plenty that’s interesting about it (although it could have been fascinating), but it never quite manages to work out what it’s doing.

The titular Louis Drax is an accident prone nine-year-old boy, whose parents have recently separated. After falling from a cliff on an outing with his mother and father, he is rushed to the hospital in a coma, where he comes under the care of Dr. Allan Pascal (Jamie Dornan). Louis also needs protection, as it’s believed his father, Peter (Aaron Paul), caused the accident and is now on the run. [Read more…]
