Trolls Trailer – Anna Kendrick & Justin Timberlake help the 70s fad get animated

June 29, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Trolls-Teaser-QuadIn the old days it was just book and TV shows that had a shot of being turned into movies, but now Hollywood has realised the pretty much anything is fair game, as long as it’s something that was popular at some point. Trolls, though, is an odd one, as there are plenty of kids around now whose parents are too young to remember the fuzzy haired figures’ heyday in the 70s. Admittedly though back then they were so popular that no youngster could expect to be seen as cool without a Troll pencil topper.

However, Dreamworks Animation isn’t letting the fact they were most popular 40-years-ago to stand in their way, and have now released a full trailer for their Trolls movie.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘DreamWorks’ TROLLS is a hair-raising comedy filled with unbelievable adventure and incredible music.  Known for their crazy, colourful, and magical hair, Trolls are the happiest, most joyous creatures ever to burst into song. But their world of rainbows and cupcakes is changed forever, when their leader Poppy (Anna Kendrick,) must embark on a rescue mission that takes her far beyond the only world she’s ever known.’

The voice cast also features Justin Timberlake, James Corden, Kunal Nayyar, Gwen Stefani, Russell Brand, and Ron Founts. It’ll be in UK cinemas in October. [Read more…]

Bridget-Jones-baby-poster-slideSynopsis: ‘Oscar® winners Renée Zellweger and Colin Firth are joined by Patrick Dempsey for the next chapter of the world’s favorite singleton in Bridget Jones’s Baby.  Directed by Sharon Maguire (Bridget Jones’s Diary), the new film in the beloved comedy series based on creator Helen Fielding’s heroine finds Bridget unexpectedly expecting.

‘After breaking up with Mark Darcy (Firth), Bridget Jones’s (Zellweger) “happily ever after” hasn’t quite gone according to plan.  Fortysomething and single again, she decides to focus on her job as top news producer and surround herself with old friends and new.  For once, Bridget has everything completely under control.  What could possibly go wrong?

‘Then her love life takes a turn and Bridget meets a dashing American named Jack (Dempsey), the suitor who is everything Mr. Darcy is not.  In an unlikely twist she finds herself pregnant, but with one hitch…she can only be fifty percent sure of the identity of her baby’s father.

‘The much-anticipated third installment of the Bridget Jones’s franchise welcomes fellow Academy Award® winner Emma Thompson to the cast.  Longtime collaborators Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner of Working Title Films produce alongside Debra Hayward.  Universal Pictures will distribute Bridget Jones’s Baby in North America and select international territories.’

Margarita, With A Straw (US DVD Review)

June 28, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Hussain Dalal, Kalki Koechlin, Revathy, Sayani Gupta, William Moseley
Director: Nilesh Maniyar, Shonali Bose
Running Time: 100 mins
Certificate: NR (US)
Release Date: June 28th 2016 (US)

If you would like the heads to explode of those who voted for Brexit and who want to vote for Trump, just tell them about the concept for this movie. The idea of a film about a disabled, bisexual, Indian woman who becomes an immigrant should be enough to kill them. The shame is they won’t actually watch the movie, which is a sweet, sharply observed and often surprisingly funny movie about one woman finding herself and her independence.

Laila (Kalki Koechlin) has cerebral palsy and uses a wheelchair. She’s in college and on the cusp of womanhood, but is becoming increasingly aware that due to her disability, people have difficulty seeing her as an adult, with her own sexual and emotional needs. After getting a scholarship to study in the US, she has the opportunity to discover a new culture, but also discovers something she wasn’t expecting about herself. [Read more…]

Triple 9 (Blu-ray Review)

June 28, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Casey Affleck, Aaron Paul Kate Winslet, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Anthony Mackie
Director: John Hillcoat
Running Time: 115 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: June 27th 2016 (UK)

As the cast came together for Triple 9, it couldn’t help but feel this was going to be one hell of a movie. With the director of The Road and Lawless behind the camera, and a cast including Casey Affleck, Aaron Paul Kate Winslet, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Anthony Mackie, Gal Gadot, Norman Reedus, Teresa Palmer, Clifton Collins Jr. and Woody Harrelson, it certainly has plenty of pedigree.

However, the result is a rather overstuffed movie, which, as with many of its forebears, confuses grimness with authenticity, and people being miserable and unpleasant to one another with reality. Indeed, there are moments when objectively it’s about as realistic as Lord Of The Rings, but has such a determined po-face that it might convince you otherwise. [Read more…]

Pride & Prejudice & Zombies (Blu-ray Review)

June 28, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Lily James, Sam Riley, Matt Smith, Douglas Booth, Jack Huston
Director: Burr Steers
Running Time: 107 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: June 27th 2016 (UK)

Jane Austen gets an undead mash-up in the film version of Seth Grahame-Smith’s novel, which took the original text of Pride & Prejudice and added in a whole lot of zombies. The movie has had a somewhat troubled history, with various directors and actors coming and going, and with the whole thing looking like they’d given up on it several times. However, finally Lionsgate got it in the can with Burr Steers (Charlie St. Cloud) directing and Lily James and Sam Riley starring.

As you would expect, the Bennet sisters are living in Hertfordshire, with their mother keen to marry them off to eligible men. While Lydia, Mary and Kitty seem keen to take any suitable gent, Elizabeth (James) is more headstrong and independent. While fending off the advances of Parson Collins (Matt Smith), she meets the exceedingly rich Darcy (Riley), who she takes an immediate dislike to, seeing him as rude, judgemental and unpleasant. Ansel Elgort in Talks In Talks For Live Action Dungeons & Dragons Film

June 28, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

ansel-elgortAnsel Elgort, star on the Divergent series and The Fault In Our Stars, may be entering the fantasy realm, as Deadline reports he’s in early talks to star in Warner’s planned Dungeons & Dragons film. It seems he’s not quite ready to sign on the dotted line though, but may well take the central role.

It’s not the first time the role playing game has taken to the big screen, although a 2000 movie starring Jeremy Irons bombed terribly. After that it got trapped in legal limbo while there was a fight over the film rights, but now that’s been sorted Warner Bros. has been keen to get a big budget fantasy based on the franchise going.

Not too much is known about the specifics of the movie, but Deadline adds, ‘Dungeons And Dragons is a fantasy adventure centering on a warrior and his band of mystical creatures as they embark on a dangerous journey to find a mythical treasure. It’s known that Vin Diesel has also expressed interest in being part of the film as he has been a fan of and played the game for more than 20 years.’

Rob Letterman (Monsters Vs. Aliens) is set to direct.

star-trek-beyond-slideThe rebooted Star Trek has had plenty of success at the cinema, but one thing it’s been lacking is a five-year mission to seek out strange new worlds. However, now it seems it’s getting one, although as you would expect, as the crew of the USS Enterprise head off to strange new worlds, things don’t go smoothly.

Abrams in 2009, returns with director Justin Lin (“The Fast and the Furious” franchise) at the helm of this epic voyage of the U.S.S. June 27, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

morgan-poster-slideSynopsis: ‘A corporate troubleshooter (Kate Mara) is sent to a remote, top-secret location, where she is to investigate and evaluate a terrifying accident.  She learns the event was triggered by a seemingly innocent “human,” who presents a mystery of both infinite promise and incalculable danger.’
