Maya Rudolph Reuniting With Tina Fey & Amy Poehler For The Nest

June 15, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

maya-rudolphmaya-rudolphSaturday Night Live has a long history of forming great personal and professional relationships, and indeed if you look back at Tina Fey’s post SNL career, you can see how many of her former colleagues have been involved in her success.

That’s not changing with The Nest, which already has Fey and fellow SNL alum Amy Poehler, and has now added another in the form of May Rudolph, according to THR.

Even the script comes from a former Saturday Night Live writer, Paula Pell. It’s about two sisters (Fey and Poehler) who decide to throw one last massive party in their childhood home before it is sold. It turns out to be a cathartic experience for the siblings and their friends.

Rudolph will be childhood friend of the sisters, while James Brolin signed on earlier this week to play Fey and Poehler’s father.

Jason Moore (Pitch Perfect) is directing, with a late 2015 release date set.

Is Jason Momoa On For Aquaman In Batman v Superman?

June 15, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

jason-momoaConan didn’t turn Jason Momoa into the star many think he should be, but Game Of Thrones has been a great showcase for his brand of brawny acting. Now it looks like he’s got another shot at movie stardom, as Hitfix says he’s landed the role of Aquaman in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Momoa will apparently have a small role in that film, which will expand into a more pivotal role in Justice League. It’s not the first time Momoa been rumoured for the movies, but due to the fact he doesn’t look like the classic version of Aquaman,  many believed he was playing either Martian Manhunter or Doomsday.

As yet the casting hasn’t been confirmed by Warner Bros. and DC Comics, and according to the Hitfix report, it won’t be confirmed for quite some time (so at the moment treat it is an enhanced rumour).

It’s also being suggested he won’t be called Aquaman in the movie, which may help those annoyed by the fact he looks nothing like the blonde Arthur Curry accept him in the role.

It’s suggested that the storyline of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice will find the world angry with Superman, as in the aftermath of Man Of Steel, they’re left clearing up the massive damage inflicted on Metropolis (the clean-up is the one thing these super-destructive movies normally ignore). Lex Luthor is said to be behind an attempt to ban the superhero and turn mankind against him.

Aquaman is involved as he is not pleased with what the World Engine has done to the Indian Ocean, and he seeks out Superman for an answer.

Andrew Rannells To Replace Neil Patrick Harris As Hedwig On Broadway

June 13, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

andrew-rannells-hedwigAfter its success at the box office and last Sunday’s triple win at the Tonys, it’s not too surprising that an extension has been announced for Hedwig & The Angry Inch on Broadway – even if it was originally meant to be a limited engagement.

However those hoping to see Neil Patrick Harris in the role after August 20th will be disappointed – but not too much, as it’s been announced his replacement will be the very talented Andrew Rannells.

The New Normal & Girls star will be donning the fabled blonde wig on The Great White Way, but it won’t be the first time, as he actually played the transgender East German rocker in a production in Austin, Texas in 2011.

Rannells will take over on Aug 20th for what is currently scheduled to be an eight-week run. It’ll be interesting to see whether this becomes a regular thing, with the show getting extended again with more talented folks stepping into Hedwig’s shoes.

You can take a look at Rannells singing the musicals The Origin Of Love as a benefit concert below. [Read more…]

Win The Indie Brit Comedy Downhill On DVD!

June 13, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

downwhill-dvd-coverFour old school friends remind one another why they’ve not caught up in more than 20 years in acclaimed TV commercial director James Rouse’s hilarious feature debut, DOWNHILL, on DVD and digital platforms in the UK on June 16th. And we’ve got three copies of the DVD to give away.

Gordon (Richard Lumsden – Sightseers, TV’s The Catherine Tate Show) is determined that he and best friend Keith (Karl Theobald – TV’s 2012, Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa) will conquer Wainright’s Coast to Coast Walk from St Bees in Cumbria to Robin Hood’s Bay in North Yorkshire. He also believes that having his film student son document the adventure is the perfect way to commemorate their achievement, but when a stray conversation determines that old school friends Steve (Jeremy Swift – Jupiter Ascending, TV’s Downton Abbey) and Julian (Ned Dennehy – Tyrannosaur, TV’s Luther) join them on the trip, best laid plans lead straight to multiple mid-life crises.

Combining keenly observed situational comedy; some of Britain’s finest comedy talent and a breathtaking journey through some of the best of British countryside, DOWNHILL is a comedy of errors, a testament to the tragically incompatible and a blow-by-blow account of the highs and lows of decades-long friendships.

If you’d like to try one of the three copies of Downhill on DVD that we’ve got to give away, answer the question below and fill in your details, then press submit! The competition closes on June 26th 2014, so get answering and good luck! [Read more…]

Birdman Trailer – Michael Keaton discovers life after superheroes

June 13, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

birdman-posterMichael Keaton had huge success as Batman in the late 80s and early 90s, and now he’s kind of returning to the superhero fold, playing an actor best known for playing a famed comic book figure in Birdman.

The Alejandro González Iñárritu movie also stars Emma Stone, Edward Norton, Naomi Watts, Amy Ryan and Zach Galifianakis, and from the evidence of this first trailer, it’s gonna be a good one.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘BIRDMAN or The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance is a black comedy that tells the story of an actor (Michael Keaton) – famous for portraying an iconic superhero – as he struggles to mount a Broadway play. In the days leading up to opening night, he battles his ego and attempts to recover his family, his career, and himself.’

The movie is out this autumn. [Read more…]

Russell Crowe & Ryan Gosling May Be The Good Guys For Shane Black

June 13, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

ryan-goslingAfter the massive success of Iron Man, Shane Black is plotting his next movie, a crime noir called The Nice Guys. Now TheWrap reports he’s eying his cast, with Russell Crowe and Ryan Gosling circling.

Neither actor is signed on yet as there are issues that would need to be sorted first. With Crowe, for example, there may be scheduling conflicts due to his need to promote his directorial debut, The Water Diviner.

The film is about muscle-for-hire Jackson Healy, a recovering alcoholic, and private detective Holland March, a current alcoholic, who are brought together by the apparent suicide of a porn star. However the dead woman’s aunt claims that she saw her niece alive and well after she was supposed to have killed herself. March takes on the case hoping to make some easy money, but soon both men are dragged into a far-reaching conspiracy that is rooted in smog and the car industry.

Black, who also wrote the script for The Nice Guys alongside Anthony Bagarozzi, has been trying to get the film off the ground for several years, but it’s only recently he’s had the clout to make it happen.

GI Joe: Retaliation’s Jon M. Chu May Helm Now You See Me 2

June 13, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Jon-M-ChuFew people had high hope for Now You See Me before its release, but after it grossed $350 million around the world, it’s little surprise Lionsgate started developing a sequel. Initially director Louis Leterrier was due to return for the follow-up, but now it appears he’s left the movie behind.

However Variety reports that they’re closing in on a replacement, with GI Joe: Retaliation helmer Jon M. Chu emerging as the front runner.

It’s not known why Leterrier left, but with Lionsgate hoping to shoot Now You See Me 2 this October, it’s likely there’s a scheduling conflict with Grimsby, the Sasha Baron Cohen vehicle Leterrier is she to film this summer.

Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Isla Fisher, Dave Franco and Mark Ruffalo are all expected to return, although its not known what the plot will be. However it will undoubtedly follow the further exploits of The Four Horsemen, magicians who in the first film uses their skills to pull off elaborate bank heists during their performances.

First Look at Robert Downey Jr. & Robert Duvall In The Judge

June 13, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

the-judge-rdjIt’s around a year ago that The Judge went into production, but it’s only now that we’re getting the first image from the film, featuring Robert Downey Jr. and Robert Duvall.

It certainly makes a change for RDJ from wearing his Iron Man suit.

Robert Downey Jr. plays a big city lawyer who returns to his hometown for his mother’s funeral. Once there he learns that his elderly father (Robert Duvall), the local judge, is the prime suspect in her death.

Downey Jr. comments, “Against his own instincts and desire, he ends up staying to defend his dad from what may or may not be an intentional vehicular manslaughter case. His father is a pillar of the community. Everybody knows a dad like the judge. Every community has one, and every family has either heard of or been under that kind of patriarchy. It’s this very American story. But it’s also a story about family, and reconciliation, and law, and justice.”

The film is due out this autumn.

Tom Hiddleston Will Show Off His Singing Skills In I Saw the Light

June 13, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Tom-HiddlestonWhile many people would be happy if Tom Hiddleston just popped up in every movie as Loki, he’s going to show off some new skills in I Saw The Light, as he’ll be playing country music legend Hank Williams, according to Deadline.

The biopic will chart Williams’ quick rise to fame, as well as the toll it took on his personal life (just one day I want a music biopic where someone becomes famous and doesn’t have a terrible time because of it). The musician is best known for hit songs such as Your Cheatin’ Heart, I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry and Hey Good Lookin, so it’ll give Hiddleston a chance to show off his singing skill. Williams tragically passed away at the age of 29 from heart failure.

Marc Abraham is directing from his own screenplay, which is based on Colin Escott’s biography. The producers have also made a deal for the rights to Hank Williams’ music catalogue for use in the film, which should add a touch of authenticity. Shooting will begin in October.

The Interview Trailer – James Franco & Seth Rogen need to kill a dictator

June 12, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

the-interview-poster1Seth Rogen likes to have a Franco around, whether it’s Dave in the recent Bad Neighbours of James in the upcoming The Interview.

Now a trailer and poster for the latter have arrived. And this time around Seth has to kill a dictator!

Here’s the synopsis: ‘In the action-comedy The Interview, Dave Skylark (James Franco) and his producer Aaron Rapoport (Seth Rogen) run the popular celebrity tabloid TV show “Skylark Tonight.” When they discover that North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un is a fan of the show, they land an interview with him in an attempt to legitimize themselves as journalists. As Dave and Aaron prepare to travel to Pyongyang, their plans change when the CIA recruits them, perhaps the two least-qualified men imaginable, to assassinate Kim Jong-un.’

It’s due out in October. [Read more…]

New Paddington Trailer – Michael Bond’s bear is headed to the big screen

June 12, 2014 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

paddington-preview-pic2After a couple of images yesterday, we can now get our best look yet at the live-action/CG version of Paddington with a full trailer. Unlike previous promos, this one shows the bear in action, and it’s actually more effective than I thought it might be.

Here’s the official synopsis: ‘From the producer of Harry Potter and Gravity, Paddington comes to the big screen for the first time in an epic new adventure.

‘Featuring an all-star cast and effects courtesy of award-winning VFX company Framestore, Paddington is THE big family film of Christmas.

‘Voted Best Animated Character at the 2012 British Animation Awards, and adapted from Michael Bond’s beloved books, Paddington follows the comic misadventures of a polite young bear with an endearing talent for comic chaos.

‘Paddington has grown up deep in the Peruvian jungle with his Aunt Lucy who, inspired by a chance encounter with an English explorer, has raised her nephew to dream of an exciting life in London. When an earthquake destroys their home, Aunt Lucy decides to smuggle her young nephew on board a boat bound for England, in search of a better life. Arriving alone at Paddington Station, Paddington soon finds that city life is not all he had imagined – until he meets the kindly Brown family, who find him with a label tied around his neck which reads ‘Please look after this bear. Thank you.’ They offer him a temporary home whilst he searches for the explorer who impressed Aunt Lucy all those years before.

‘But when Paddington catches the eye of a sinister, seductive taxidermist, it isn’t long before his home – and very existence – is under threat.’

Paddington is released in UK cinemas November 28th. [Read more…]

It’s Two Tom Hardys For The Price Of One (Including A Bisexual One) In The First Pic From Legend

June 12, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Tom-Hardy-LegendThe crime thriller Legend started shooting this week and to get us excited the first pic has been released, via ThePlaylist, which shows us not one but two Tom Hardys, as he’s playing both of the infamous London gangsters the Kray Twins.

The film will ‘chart the tortured and unique relationship between gangsters Ronald and Reginald Kray, the identical twin brothers infamous for their criminal exploits in London during the 1950s and 1960s… The script takes in associates, rivals – such as notorious gangster Jack “the Hat” McVitie, who was murdered by Reginald in 1967 – politician Lord Boothby, and the brothers’ nemesis in the police force, DS Leonard “Nipper” Read, who made it his life’s ambition to put the Krays behind bars.’

The brothers were involved in armed robberies, arson, protection rackets, assaults, and several murders, and became infamous in the Swinging Sixties, mixing with celebs and giving off an aura of immunity. However they were eventually arrested in 1968 and sentenced to life in prison.

In the pic, Ronnie is the one with glasses and Reggie is the one without. What’s not known is how the film will deal with the sexuality of Reggie Kray, who was bisexual (while some say he exclusively slept with men, he identified as bisexual). He is believed to have been quite open about this even at the height of his gangster exploits. However it is known the film will deal with him trying to keep his brothers’ psychotic tendencies in check.
