Ridley Scott Planning Prometheus Sequel For 2014 Or 2015

August 2, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

20th Century Fox has confirmed they are in development on a sequel to Prometheus, according to THR, with director Ridley Scott and stars Michael Fassbender and Noomi Rapace set to return with more adventures that lead towards the events we saw in the first Alien movie.

Here’s what Fox production president Emma Watts had to say about the follow-up, “Ridley is incredibly excited about the movie, but we have to get it right. We can’t rush it.”

As they’re not rushing, Fox is looking at releasing the sequel in either 2014 or 2015, perhasp filling the gap left by the ever retreating release date of Avatar 2 & 3. The studio is currently in talks with new writers to draft the sequel as Damon Lindelof, who wrote the original, may not be available to work on the follow-up, due to his involvement with The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and several other projects.

Michael Fassbender Signs Up For Assassin’s Creed Film

July 10, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Video game to movie adaptations don’t have a great reputation, but Michael Fassbender is hoping to overcome that, as Variety reports that he has signed on to star in and co-produce an adaptation of the popular Ubisoft game Assassin’s Creed.

The sci-fi action adventure revolves around a bartender who learns that his ancestors were trained assassins. He is kidnapped by a group tied to the secret society Knights Templar and forced to travel through time, collecting various historical artifacts to be used for a higher purpose.

Assassin’s Creed is the most high profile project currently with Michael Fassbender’s DMC Film. This big screen adaptation was originally set up through Sony Pictures, but the project was put on hold by Ubisoft. It may still be distributed by Sony when it is completed, with a projected release date of 2014.

The Assassin’s Creed video game franchise has moved over 30 million units since its 2007 debut. The third installment of the game is expected to hit stores this October.

Prometheus (Cinema)

June 2, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Noomi Rapace, Logan Marshall-Green, Michael Fassbender, Guy Pearce
Director: Ridley Scott
Running Time: 123 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: June 1st, 2012

After one of the biggest and most hyperbolic marketing campaigns ever, which did all but suggest that Ridley Scott’s return to sci-fi is a bigger deal than if Jesus returned, Prometheus is here. Ever since it was announced, there’s been a lot of talk about exactly how it’s related to Alien. Scott himself has distanced the film from his earlier effort, saying only that strands of ‘Alien DNA’ would be apparent and that it only becomes a prequel in the last few minutes.

Well, the truth is that this doesn’t just have ‘Alien DNA’, it’s a full-blown prequel. The reason for Scott distancing it is the same as it often is with marketing nowadays – the assumption the audience is stupid (which, to be honest, is often quite a fair assessment for a lot of cinemagoers). There aren’t any xenomorphs (well, pretty much), and so it appears Scott wants to make sure audiences aren’t expecting the iconic facehuggers and aliens and are then disappointed by their absence. Paul Dano Joins Steve McQueen’s Twelve Years A Slave

May 22, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Steven McQueen is going from sex addiction in Shame to slavery in 12 Years A Slave. He’s already got Michael Fassbender, Brad Pitt and Chiwetel Ejiofor signed up to star, and now Deadline reports that Little Miss Sunshine and There Will Be Blood’s Paul Dano has joined him.

The project is based on the true story of Solomon Northrup (Chiwetel Ejiofor), a free black man in the mid-19th Century who was kidnapped in Washington and sold into slavery. He was rescued from a Louisiana cotton plantation in 1853. Dano will be play one of the slave owners who beats the lead character unmercifully

McQueen is directing 12 Years a Slave from a screenplay he co-wrote with John Ridley.

Haywire (DVD)

May 21, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Gina Carano, Ewan McGregor, Antonio Banderas, Michael Fassbender, Channing Tatum
Director: Steven Soderbergh
Running Time: 88 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: May 21st, 2012

With a cast including Ewan McGregor, Antonio Banderas, Channing Tatum, Michael Fassbender and Michael Douglas, alongside newcomer and MMA fighter Gina Carano – not to mention that it’s directed by Steven Soderbergh – you’d expect something pretty special from Haywire. Sadly though the film doesn’t live up to expectations, beyond a few very good fight scenes.

Carano plays Mallory Kane, a covert operative for hire who does the jobs governments and companies don’t want to admit any part of. After a mission to Barcelona she heads to Dublin for another job and soon realises something is amiss and that she’s suddenly a target herself. Knowing she’s been double-crossed, Mallory must use all her skills to stay one step ahead of those who are out to get her and work out exactly what’s going on. [Read more…]

It’s only a couple of weeks until Prometheus finally hits on June 1st, and now a couple of new featurettes have been released to take us deeper into the movie and get us a little bit more excited (if that’s possible). Here’s the synopsis: ‘Ridley Scott, director of ‘Alien’ and ‘Blade Runner’, returns to the genre he helped define. With Prometheus, he creates a groundbreaking mythology, in which a team of explorers discover a clue to the origins of mankind on Earth, leading them on a thrilling journey to the darkest corners of the universe. There, they must fight a terrifying battle to save the future of the human race.’

Shame (Blu-ray)

May 10, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Michael Fassbender, James Badge Dale
Director: Steve McQueen
Running Time: 100 mins
Certificate: 18
Release Date: May 14th, 2012

A man is on a subway train and notices a beautiful woman sitting opposite. Their eyes meet, and each smiles at the other. When the train gets to her stop, she stands up. The man stands too, coming up behind her where their hands brush and a jolt of electricity passes between them. He follows her off the train but in the jumble of people loses her. In most films this would be the start of a great love story – two lost souls destined to find each other again. However even in the first few minutes it’s clear Shame will not be that kind of story, signalling right at the beginning that the Hollywood idea of sex and romance isn’t real. [Read more…]

New Prometheus International Trailer – Loads of awesome new footage

April 30, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Quite frankly, the moment they called their ship the Prometheus they should have known they were in trouble. After all, in Greek mythology Prometheus ended up have his liver being eaten by an eagle for all eternity while he was chained to a rock, in punishment for stealing fire from the gods. However, while they should have probably picked a better name, the movie looks awesome, and now a new three-minute international trailer have arrived, which premiered last night on UK TV and is now available online. There’s loads of new footage, including plenty of intriguing links as to how it will be linked to Alien. It’s undoubtedly exciting, and we only have a few weeks to wait, as the film is due in cinemas June 1st.

Penelope Cruz Eyes Ridley Scott’s The Counselor

April 20, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The moment Cormac McCarthy sold his first screenplay, The Counselor, it was clear there was gonna be a lot of high profile interest in it, especially after Ridley Scott signed up to direct. In the last few weeks they’ve been putting together a great cast, with the latest news being that Penelope Cruz is eyeing a key role in the film. THR says that an official offer hasn’t been made yet, although one is expected very soon.

Michael Fassbender, Brad Pitt, and the Cruz’s husband, Javier Bardem, are already signed up, and while Angelina Jolie may still join them, it’s looking like scheduling issues with Malifecent may prevent it.

The story follows a down and out lawyer (Fassbender) in a Mexican border town, who tries his hand in the drug trade when he has cash flow issues. The attorney teams up with a wealthy acquaintance (Javier Bardem) and a shady businessman (Brad Pitt) to get their cocaine trafficking enterprise off the ground. Cruz would play the lawyer’s love interest.

April 18, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Fox must be spending a fortune promoting Prometheus, although as the poster below shows, they’re getting a bit of help from product placement, in this case Prometheus. However there’s still a lot of cash involved, as while most virals are just helped my a bit of cheap marketing and word of mouth, Fox has actually taken out newspaper adverts in the US to point people towards their viral efforts for David, Michael Fassbender’s artificial human. Ridley Scott’s semi-Alien prequel hits cinemas June 1st, but take a look below for the new poster and above for ace viral vid.
