New Paddington Trailer – Michael Bond’s bear is headed to the big screen

June 12, 2014 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

paddington-preview-pic2After a couple of images yesterday, we can now get our best look yet at the live-action/CG version of Paddington with a full trailer. Unlike previous promos, this one shows the bear in action, and it’s actually more effective than I thought it might be.

Here’s the official synopsis: ‘From the producer of Harry Potter and Gravity, Paddington comes to the big screen for the first time in an epic new adventure.

‘Featuring an all-star cast and effects courtesy of award-winning VFX company Framestore, Paddington is THE big family film of Christmas.

‘Voted Best Animated Character at the 2012 British Animation Awards, and adapted from Michael Bond’s beloved books, Paddington follows the comic misadventures of a polite young bear with an endearing talent for comic chaos.

‘Paddington has grown up deep in the Peruvian jungle with his Aunt Lucy who, inspired by a chance encounter with an English explorer, has raised her nephew to dream of an exciting life in London. When an earthquake destroys their home, Aunt Lucy decides to smuggle her young nephew on board a boat bound for England, in search of a better life. Arriving alone at Paddington Station, Paddington soon finds that city life is not all he had imagined – until he meets the kindly Brown family, who find him with a label tied around his neck which reads ‘Please look after this bear. Thank you.’ They offer him a temporary home whilst he searches for the explorer who impressed Aunt Lucy all those years before.

‘But when Paddington catches the eye of a sinister, seductive taxidermist, it isn’t long before his home – and very existence – is under threat.’

Paddington is released in UK cinemas November 28th. [Read more…]

It’s Two Tom Hardys For The Price Of One (Including A Bisexual One) In The First Pic From Legend

June 12, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Tom-Hardy-LegendThe crime thriller Legend started shooting this week and to get us excited the first pic has been released, via ThePlaylist, which shows us not one but two Tom Hardys, as he’s playing both of the infamous London gangsters the Kray Twins.

The film will ‘chart the tortured and unique relationship between gangsters Ronald and Reginald Kray, the identical twin brothers infamous for their criminal exploits in London during the 1950s and 1960s… The script takes in associates, rivals – such as notorious gangster Jack “the Hat” McVitie, who was murdered by Reginald in 1967 – politician Lord Boothby, and the brothers’ nemesis in the police force, DS Leonard “Nipper” Read, who made it his life’s ambition to put the Krays behind bars.’

The brothers were involved in armed robberies, arson, protection rackets, assaults, and several murders, and became infamous in the Swinging Sixties, mixing with celebs and giving off an aura of immunity. However they were eventually arrested in 1968 and sentenced to life in prison.

In the pic, Ronnie is the one with glasses and Reggie is the one without. What’s not known is how the film will deal with the sexuality of Reggie Kray, who was bisexual (while some say he exclusively slept with men, he identified as bisexual). He is believed to have been quite open about this even at the height of his gangster exploits. However it is known the film will deal with him trying to keep his brothers’ psychotic tendencies in check.

Chris Pratt Looks Exceptionally Hunky In New Jurassic World Pics

June 12, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

jurassic-world-pic1With a Jurassic Park movie, you expect dinosaurs, but as the movie is still in production we’ll forgive them for showing off the human side in a trio of new pics that have arrived, as they probably haven’t had too much time to sort out the effects for Jurassic World yet.

We have to say though, Chris Pratt is looking good as a scientist doing research into raptors on the island we were introduced to in the first movie. It’s now a fully functional theme park, but as you may have guessed, with dinosaurs around there’s bound to be havoc.

Bryce Dallas Howard plays a very smartly dressed woman who’s also believed to be some kind of scientist (with some reports suggesting she may be related to John Hammons). In the bottom pic are the youngsters who’ll inevitably end up in peril, Nick Robinson and Ty Simpkins.

The film is due out next year.

June 12, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Kristen-WiigWith her star having risen on the big screen following Bridesmaids, Kristen Wiig is now using that clout to step behind the camera to make her directorial debut with a new untitled comedy, according the New York Times.

The film will reunite her with her Bridesmaids co-writer Annie Mumolo, who will co-script the film with Wiig and also star.

Not much is known about the plot, but it’s believed to follow Wiig and Mumolo as two best friends who find themselves in over their heads and out of their depths.

The actresses/writers commented, “We’re very excited to be writing. We will be going into a cave for months to finish. An actual cave. We found one that’s nice and big. We’re putting a couch in there.”

Mumolo also wrote the script for director David O. Russell’s upcoming biopic Joy, and has also appeared in This Is 40, Afternoon Delight and has a recurring role in the sitcom About a Boy.

June 11, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

arthur-and-mikeEmily Blunt may be in cinemas at the moment kicking ass in Edge Of Tomorrow, but soon she’s getting into a quirky romance with Colin Firth in Arthur & Mike.

Faking his own death, he acquires a forged passport and a new identity—that of a golfer named “Arthur Newman”. “Arthur” heads out for Indiana to start a new life and a promise of a new job as a resident golf-pro at a prestigious club. Along the way, he meets the beautiful but troubled Charlotte (Emily Blunt), who is also traveling under a false identity—that of her schizophrenic twin sister, Michaela or “Mike”—and has fled her own home in North Carolina.

Arthur and Mike’s relationship flourishes and they embark on an adventurous road-trip where they take a deviation, breaking into empty mansions and assuming other people’s identities until, eventually, the role-playing games begin to lose their lustre, revealing two hearts hurt by life’s challenges. Full The Boxtrolls Trailer – What if you thought you were a troll but you’re actually human?

June 11, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

boxtrolls-teaser-slideLaika has had success with the likes of Coraline and Paranorman and they return this year with The Boxtrolls, which looks like it could be a lot of fun – even if the plot does have shades of Elf. Now a new trailer has arrived.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘The Boxtrolls is a comedic fable that unfolds in Cheesebridge, a posh Victorian-era town obsessed with wealth, class and the stinkiest of fine cheeses. Beneath its charming cobblestone streets dwell the Boxtrolls, foul monsters who crawl out of the sewers at night and steal what the townspeople hold most dear: their children and their cheeses. At least that’s the legend residents have always believed. In truth, the Boxtrolls are an underground cavern-dwelling community of quirky and lovable oddballs who wear recycled cardboard boxes the way turtles wear their shells.

‘The Boxtrolls have raised an orphaned human boy, EGGS (voiced by Isaac Hempstead-Wright), since infancy as one of their dumpster-diving and mechanical junk-collecting own. When the Boxtrolls are targeted by a villainous pest exterminator ARCHIBALD SNATCHER (Acadamy Award winner Ben Kingsley) who is bent on eradicating them as his ticket to Cheesebridge society, the kind-hearted band of tinkerers must turn to their adopted charge and an adventurous rich girl WINNIE (Elle Fanning) to bridge two worlds amidst the winds of change – and cheese. ‘

The film is due out in September. [Read more…]
