Jason Segel & Seth Gordon Plan A Maple Syrup Heist

September 25, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Jason-SegelYou wouldn’t think maple syrup would be top of a thief’s hit list, but it turns out that’s sometimes it can be very lucrative, and Sony Pictures even thinks it’s worth making a movie about, with Deadline reporting Jason Segel has signed up to star, with Seth Gordon (Horrible Bosses) on board to direct a film about a 2012 Canadian maple heist.

Described as a ‘comedy with dramatic overtones’, the movie will be inspired by a Montreal Gazette article by journalist Anne Sutherland. It will follow he heist where, ‘$20 million worth of maple syrup was stolen in 2012 from Quebec’s Federation of Maple Syrup Producers and to date, over 20 individuals have been arrested in conjunction with the heist as prosecutors try to make the charges stick.’

Family Guy’s Chris Sheridan is writing the script. There’s no news on when it might shoot.

Derek Cianfrance Reckons These Guys Have All The Fun, About The Rise Of ESPN

September 25, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

derek-cianfranceUp until now Derek Cianfrance has stuck with relatively indie dramas such as Blue Valentine and The Place Beyond The Pines, but now he’s planning something a little different, as TheWrap reports that he wants to make, ESPN: These Guys Have All The Fun, for Focus Features.

You might now think a movie about the creation of a sports broadcaster would be that interesting, but the book the movie will be based on, by Andrew Miller and Tom Shales, has intrigued Hollywood since it was published back in 2011. Initially Fox bought the rights, but they couldn’t make it work so it’s now gone to Focus Features.

The book ‘chronicles the cable network’s rise to power using the voices of past and present ESPN personalities and producers, including Bill Simmons, Chris Berman and Keith Olbermann’.

They’ve also brought on Michael De Luca and Dana Brunetti, who have some experience with this sort of thing, as they also produced The Social Network.

Gerard Butler, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau & Geoffrey Rush Up For Gods of Egypt

September 25, 2013 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

Gerard Butler

Gerard Butler

In recent years there have been quite a few films about Roman and Greek mythology, but up until now the film world has generally steered clear of ancient Egyptian gods. However Alex Proyas (I Robot, Dark City) wants to change that, as he’s been working on Gods Of Egypt and now he’s pulling his cast together.

Deadline reports that Gerard Butler is in talks to star, alongside Game of Thrones’ Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, while THR adds that Geoffrey Rush has signed on.

The film is based on the mythological God of the Desert, Storms and Foreigners, Set (Butler), who kills his own brother, Osiris. Nikolaj Coster-Waldau will be Osiris’ son, Horus, the God of the Sky, who teams up with a common thief and the Goddess of Love, Hathor, to get revenge for his father’s murder. Rush is set to play Ra, the sun god, who may also be in Set’s murderous sights.

Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama (Dracula Untold, Flash Gordon) are on scripting duty. It’s not clear when it might shoot.

September 25, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Liev-SchreiberIt’s been over a year since Edward Zwick signed up to direct Tobey Maguire in the Bobby Fischer biopic Pawn Sacrifice, but it’s only now that it’s moving forward with the news that Peter Sarsgaard and Liev Schreiber are in talks to star, according to THR.

The Cold War-era drama follows chess legend Bobby Fischer (Tobey Maguire), who became the youngest grand master in chess history. Peter Sarsgaard is playing a priest who becomes Fischer’s confidante during this period.

Steven Knight (Chef, Eastern Promises) wrote the screenplay. The project has been around for several year, as David Fincher flirted with directing March 2010. However it’s now due to go into production with Zwick helming next month.

Take A Look At Jim Carrey & Jeff Daniels On The Dumb and Dumber To Set

September 24, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

dumb-and-dumber-to-pic3
Pretty much since the day Dumb & Dumber hit it big in 1994 there’s been talk about a sequel, but while Jim Carrey, Jeff Daniels and the Farrelly Brothers talked about it over the years, it always seemed like something that would only ever happen in theory.

Even in the last couple of years as talk became more serious, many thought it wouldn’t happen, especially when New Line backed out. However now it’s becoming a reality and to prove it Jim Carrey, Jeff Daniels and the official Twitter account, DumbTo, have tweeted the first pictures from the set, showing us Harry & Lloyd are really coming back.

The sequel picks up 20 years after the original and has the dimwitted duo searching for their long lost children in hopes of finding a matching kidney. It’ll be out next year.

Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg & Jonah Hill Are Having A Sausage Party

September 24, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

seth-rogenSeth Rogen & Evan Goldberg & Jonah Hill are going to have an R-rated Sausage Party and we’re all invited to watch! They’re teaming up with Sony Pictures and Annapurna Pictures for what is expected to be an R-rated animated film, that is indeed called Sausage Party.

Seth Rogen & Evan Goldberg and Kyle Hunter & Ariel Shaffir will write the script, based on a story by Rogen & Goldberg & Hill. Conrad Vernon & Greg Tiernan will directed.

Sausage Party is described as ‘a raunchy animated movie about one sausage’s quest to discover the truth about his existence. After falling out of a shopping cart, our hero sausage and his new friends embark on a perilous journey through the supermarket to get back to their aisles before the 4th of July sale.’

It almost sounds like they were looking for the thing it would be easiest to make penis jokes about, so they could base a movie around it.

Rogen and Goldberg most recently wrote and directed the comedy This Is the End and are currently working on upcoming films The Interview and Neighbors.

New Under The Skin Trailer – Scarlett Johansson is an alien in Scotland

September 23, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Under The Skin is generating some interest at film festivals, with some pulled in by Jonathan Glazer’s unusual sci-fi film, while others remain unconvinced. Now a new trailer has arrived so we can get a feel for the movie ourselves.

Scarlett Johansson an alien on earth (in Scotland, no less), disguised as the perfect aesthetic form of a mesmerizing woman. She scours remote highways and desolate scenery looking to use her greatest weapon to snare human prey – her voracious sexuality. She is deadly efficient, but over time becomes drawn to and changed by the complexity of life on earth. With this new found humanity and weakening alien resolve, she finds herself on a collision course with her own kind. Taking her point of view throughout, the film presents a unique look at our world through alien eyes.

The plot is essentially Species but as the trailer shows, this is something stranger and more interesting. [Read more…]
