You wouldn’t think maple syrup would be top of a thief’s hit list, but it turns out that’s sometimes it can be very lucrative, and Sony Pictures even thinks it’s worth making a movie about, with Deadline reporting Jason Segel has signed up to star, with Seth Gordon (Horrible Bosses) on board to direct a film about a 2012 Canadian maple heist.
Described as a ‘comedy with dramatic overtones’, the movie will be inspired by a Montreal Gazette article by journalist Anne Sutherland. It will follow he heist where, ‘$20 million worth of maple syrup was stolen in 2012 from Quebec’s Federation of Maple Syrup Producers and to date, over 20 individuals have been arrested in conjunction with the heist as prosecutors try to make the charges stick.’
Family Guy’s Chris Sheridan is writing the script. There’s no news on when it might shoot.
