Did Tom Cruise blow up the Kremlin? I wouldn’t put it past him, but in Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, he’s back as Ethan Hunt, and he and three other IMF members are framed for blowing up a big chunk of Moscow, and must go rogue in order to prove their innocence! As this trailer shows, it’s all action and Tom Cruise doing his stupid and much mocked running, and at least this admits there are other people in the movie than Cruise! The film’s out in the UK on December 26th.

Dr Seuss’s The Lorax Trailer
I’m presuming The Lorax is a lot more famous in the US that he is in the UK, because this trailer does seem to assume we already know all about him, but it doesn’t spoil the enjoyment of stepping into this very colourful world, brought to life by the guys behind Despicable Me. The animated adventure follows the journey of a boy as he searches for the one thing that will enable him to win the affection of the girl of his dreams. To find it he must discover the story of the Lorax, the grumpy yet charming creature who fights to protect his world. Danny DeVito lends his vocal talents to the iconic title character of the Lorax, while Ed Helms will voice the enigmatic Once-ler. Also bringing their talents to the film are global superstars Zac Efron as Ted, the idealistic young boy who searches for the Lorax, and Taylor Swift as Ashley, the girl of Ted’s dreams. Rob Riggle will play financial king O’Hare, and beloved actress Betty White will portray Ted’s wise Grammy Norma. It’s due in UK cinemas July 27th, 2012.
The Innkeepers Trailer
Ti West marked himself out as a horror director to look out for with The House Of The Devil and Cabin Fever 2 and now he’s returning with The Innkeepers. In the film, after over one hundred years of service, The Yankee Pedlar Inn is shutting its doors for good. The last remaining employees – Claire and Luke – are determined to uncover proof of what many believe to be one of New England’s most haunted hotels. As the Inn’s final days draw near, odd guests check in as the pair of minimum wage “ghost hunters” begin to experience strange and alarming events that may ultimately cause them to be mere footnotes in the hotel’s long unexplained history.
Paranorman Teaser Trailer
Nightmare Before Christmas director Henry Selick may have moved on from Laika, the animation company he helped found, but Laika is still in the business of creating intricate stop-motion movies, and from the evidence of this teaser trailer, Paranorman will be no different. In ParaNorman, a small town comes under siege by zombies. Who can it call? Only misunderstood local boy Norman (voiced by Kodi Smit-McPhee), who is able to speak with the dead. In addition to the zombies, he’ll have to take on ghosts, witches and, worst of all, moronic grown-ups, to save his town from a centuries-old curse. But this young ghoul whisperer may find his paranormal activities pushed to their otherworldly limits. The film reaches the UK September 2012.
Kirsten Dunst & Orlando Bloom Join Cities
Kirsten Dunst and Orlando Bloom have joined Clive Owen and Anil Kapoor in director/writer Roger Donaldson’s (The Bank Job, Thirteen Days) next directing project, Cities, according to Variety.
Cities is described by the makers as ‘A cautionary tale about greed and ambition that takes place in the exuberant months leading up to the Dow Jones all-time stock market high. Fortunes, both big and small are put at risk as people around the globe gamble that the financial market’s meteoric rise will continue. In New York, a hedge fund manager (Owen) has everything he wants – money, sex and power, but he wants more. In London, a young couple just want to buy their first home, but it seems impossibly out of reach. In Mumbai, a cop fights against corruption between property speculators and his villainous colleague Seth (Kapoor). These stories will all dramatically collide in a world where the fortunes of individuals are interwoven with the lives of others across the globe they have never even met.’
It isn’t known exactly how Dunst and Bloom fit into this, although Kirsten will be playing somebody called Kate. The movie will reunite Dunst and Bloom, who first appeared together in Cameron Crowe’s Elizabethtown in 2005, but let’s hope this new movie is a lot better than that film. Shooting on Cities is set to start in the spring.

Fraggle Rock Film Finds New Life
For years there’s been talk of making a movie out of Jim Henson’s popular 80s kid’s TV show Fraggle Rock, but for various reasons – some to do with financing but mainly arguments over the tone of the screenplay – it’s never moved past the planning stages. However now it looks like it’s finally going to go ahead at New Regency, as Deadline reports they’ve just snapped up the property rights to the franchise.
New Regency is the company behind Alvin & the Chipmunks, and it is unclear at this time if Fraggle Rock will follow those films’ lead turn Gobo, Wembley, Mokey, Boober and Red into CGI creations or they’ll remain the puppets they were in the TV show, which ran for five season from 1983.
According to the Jim Henson website, Fraggle Rock was ‘created as a way to show the world how to live in peace. Within the show are three different communities: the home of Doc, an inventor, and his dog, Sprocket; the world of the upbeat Fraggles, who share the caves of Fraggle Rock beneath Doc’s house with their small neighbors, the Doozers; and the Gorgs, gigantic creatures who inhabit Gorg’s Garden. Through these different communities, Fraggle Rock shows how we can all work together towards common goals’.
Hopefully this new deal means a Fraggle movie will finally get made, but there may well be plenty more arguments, as many of the problems the film has faced are between those who want to bring a slightly more modern sensibility to the franchise and those who see themselves as holders of Jim Henson’s legacy, who don’t want to alter anything. Maybe moving the film from The Weinstein Company to New Regency will sort that out.

Joel Kinnaman Gets The Lead In Arthur & Lancelot
The TV show The Killing seems to be a breeding ground for stars, with Mireille Enos is the upcoming Gangster Squad and World War Z, and now THR reports her Swedish co-star Joel Kinnaman landing one of the main leads in Warner Bros’ Arthur & Lancelot.
The film will be based on David Dobkin’s spec screenplay (he’ll also direct), which as the name suggests is a reimagining of the King Arthur and Sir Lancelot stories. It’s likely we’ll see a friends become enemies tale with them falling out over Guinevere.
Casting is still ongoing for the King Arthur role, with actors such as Kit Harington, Sam Claflin, Dominic Cooper, Hans Matheson, Jim Sturgess, Benjamin Walker, and Liam Hemsworth all in contention. It isn’t certain when the $90 million movie will shoot, but it’s already got a March 2013 release date set.

Arnold Schwarzenegger Takes On Black Sands
After the blip in his comeback caused by the revelations of his lovechild, Arnold Schwarzenegger is now back to being a movie star, with filming starting on The Last Stand soon, which is his first proper film since leaving the governor’s office, and now he’s signed up for another. The action star has agreed to take the lead in Black Sands for directors Scott Waugh and Mike McCoy, according to Deadline.
Swordfish’s Skip Woods is responsible for the screenplay, which is about a loner who decides to wage war against a corrupt weapons manufacturer and his private army. The tone is said to be High Plains Drifter meets Man on Fire.
Black Sands is set to begin filming April 1st, 2012. Can Arnie still cut it as an action hero at the age of 65? We’ll have to wait and see.

Hunger Games Character Posters Revealed
It’s only a few months now until The Hunger Games hits cinemas (March 23rd, 2012), which Lionsgate is certainly hoping will be the new Twilight, as they’ve been hyping it up to the max. The latest part of that campaign is the release of eight character posters featuring Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence), Peeta (Josh Hutcherson), Gale (Liam Hemsworth), Haymitch (Woody Harrelson), Effie (Elizabeth Banks), Cinna (Lenny Kravitz), Rue (Amandla Stenberg), and Cato (Alexander Ludwig).
Here’s the official synopsis: ‘Every year in the ruins of what was once North America, the nation of Panem forces each of its twelve districts to send a teenage boy and girl to compete in the Hunger Games. Part twisted entertainment, part government intimidation tactic, the Hunger Games are a nationally televised event in which “Tributes” must fight with one another until one survivor remains.
‘Pitted against highly-trained Tributes who have prepared for these Games their entire lives, Katniss is forced to rely upon her sharp instincts as well as the mentorship of drunken former victor Haymitch Abernathy. If she’s ever to return home to District 12, Katniss must make impossible choices in the arena that weigh survival against humanity and life against love.’
Take a look at the character posters above and below.
