Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter Trailer

March 18, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

With its teaser trailer, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter turned from a movie that looked like it might be kinda fun to something far more exciting, and that continues with this new full trailer, which shows the famed American President (played by relative movie newcomer Benjamin Walker) kicking supernatural ass in Timur Bekmambetov’s movie. Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter reimagines the American president as an axe-wielding, highly trained vampire hunter. Seth Grahame-Smith’s book, on which the movie will be based, gives new context to Lincoln’s rise to the presidency as well as the American Civil War (which was fought because the vampires were in league with the slave owners), suggesting these events were a lot more paranormal than history tells us, and stemmed from Lincoln’s mother’s murder by a vampire when he was a child. The film hits UK cinemas August 2nd.

Prometheus Trailer – It’s looking epic!

March 18, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

After an almost farcical amount of hype, the full trailer for Prometheus has arrived, and it’s epic! While Ridley Scott has been keen to say it’s not an Alien movie, the trailer makes it clear that this is a full-on prequel to the famed series, even if it doesn’t feature the creatures themselves. It also gives us a better hint at the plot, with clues in ancient Earth civilisations hinting at the existence of an alien species the spaceship Prometheus sets off to find, only to discover things are more dangerous than they expected. Take a look at the trailer below and prepare to be impressed! We’ve also includes a new viral below, about growing your own Michael Fassbender!

Dark Shadows Trailer

March 16, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

It’s odd that it’s taken so long, but a trailer for Dark Shadows is finally here. Based on a 1960s supernatural US soap opera, the film reunites Tim Burton and Johnny Depp for a film that from this trailer looks like it’ll be deliberately silly but fun, and it seem like it’ll be the most Burton-looking movie we’ve seen in a while, with plenty of gothic flourishes. In the film, Johnny Depp plays Barnabas Collins, who was turned into a vampire by a witch in the 18th Century and then buried alive. Two centuries later, Barnabas is inadvertently freed from his tomb and emerges into the very changed world of 1972. He returns to old home, Collinwood Manor, to find that his once-grand estate has fallen into ruin. The dysfunctional remnants of the Collins family have fared little better, each harboring their own dark secrets. Michelle Pfeiffer, Helena Bonham Carter, Jonny Lee Miller, Jackie Earle Haley, Chloe Moretz and Gulliver McGrath also star. The film’s out May 11th.

New Battleship Trailer

March 14, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

There’s little doubt that Battleship has pretty much nothing to do with the classic game and everything with trying to ape Transformers to give Hasbro yet another enormous franchise they can sell toys on the back of (although with Universal making the movie this time, rather than Paramount/Dreamworks). The more we see, the more like Transformers-At-Sea it looks, although that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Now a new trailer has arrived, with Taylor Kitsch, Alexander Skarsgard and Liam Neeson running around trying to deal with a mechanical alien threat at sea. The big budget movie hits cinemas April 11th.

On The Road Trailer

March 12, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

There’s been a lot of talk about Walter Salles’ adaptation of Jack Kerouac’s classic On The Road, with many suggesting it shouldn’t be made into a film, others being wary about the cast, while many have been avidly looking forward to it. Now the first trailer has arrives, so we can get a hint at the tone of the film and it’s rather sepia colour palette. However, its difficult to tell from this whether the movie will retain the strong homoerotic undertones of the book.

#The film follows Sal Paradise (Sam Riley), an aspiring New York writer who meets Dean Moriarty (Garrett Hedlund), a devastatingly charming ex-con, who’s married to the very liberated and seductive Marylou (Kristen Stewart). Sal and Dean bond instantly. Determined not to get locked in to a constricted life, the two friends cut their ties and take to the road with Marylou. Thirsting for liberty, the three young people head off in search of the world, of other encounters, and of themselves. It’s currently due out on the UK on September 21st.

First Pic From Twilight: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 Emerges

March 9, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

No sooner did we post our Blu-ray review of Twilight: Breaking Dawn – Part 1 than The Twilight Twitter account posted the very first image from the final movie in the franchise (or at least the last one for now, as there’s been talk of trying to continue somehow), which is due in cinemas November 16th.

It’s not exactly the most revealing of images, but it does suggest Edward’s going to be uncharacteristically happy at one point, perhaps due to becoming a dad!

The first trailer arrived on March 23rd, attached to The Hunger Games, and then goes online on March 26th.

The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1 (Blu-ray)

March 9, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, Taylor Lautner, Ashley Greene, Peter Facinelli
Director: Bill Condon
Running Time: 117 mins
Certificate: 12
Release Date: March 12th, 2012

It’s become almost de rigueur to slag off the Twilight movies, with the usual tack being to criticise the films for not fitting into the horror/action/thriller tropes that fanboys feel movies about vampires ought to fulfil. Behind that is a rather unpleasant sense that the anger at the franchise stems from fury that someone has dared make a fantasy movie that isn’t designed for the geeks who like to should loudly on the internet. Perhaps worst of all is that these angry young men don’t even seem to appreciate that 90% of the major movies are made for them, so the vitriol they pour at Twilight, simply because it’s popular but not for them, is actually quite ridiculous. First Pic Of Depp & Hammer In Lone Ranger Debuts

March 8, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

After plenty of problems with an ever-ballooning budget that almost saw Disney scrap the film, The Lone Ranger is finally shooting, and to prove it, Jerry Bruckheimer has tweeted the first image from the set, showing a bemasked Armie Hammer as the title character, alongside Johnny Depp as Tonto (Depp now only signs onto movies if they promise he can wear completely OTT costumes).

According to Disney, ‘The Lone Ranger is a thrilling adventure infused with action and humor, in which the famed masked hero is brought to life through new eyes. Native American spirit warrior Tonto (Johnny Depp) recounts the untold tales that transformed John Reid (Armie Hammer), a man of the law, into a legend of justice—taking the audience on a runaway train of epic surprises and humorous friction as the two unlikely heroes must learn to work together and fight against greed and corruption.’

And I don’t know the politics of this, but is it not racist if Depp pretends to be a Native American, but it would be if he blacked up? It’s all very confusing.

Lesbian Werewolf Drama Jack & Diane Set To Premiere At Tribeca

March 7, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Jack & Diane has a fairly long production history, which largely consists of various actresses such as Ellen Page and Olivia Thirlby attaching themselves to the title roles, before moving on. As a result it took a long time to get it in the can, but it was finally filmed last year with Riley Keough (who’s Elvis Presley granddaughter, incidentally) and Juno Temple in the lead roles.

Now the lesbian-themed fantasy drama film is set to gets its premiere, with the announcement (via The Playlist) that it’ll screen at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York, which runs April 18th-29th.

The movie is about two teenage girls who meet in New York City and despite being very different, spark up a relationship. When Jack discovers that Diane is leaving the country in a week she tries to push her away. Diane struggles to keep their love alive while hiding the secret that her newly awakened sexual desire is giving her werewolf-like visions.

Jena Malone also stars, with Kyle Minogue popping up in the movie as a tattooed lesbian. Hopefully the movie will reach the UK later this year.
