Dirty Grandpa Trailer – Zac Efron gets buff & Robert De Niro, erm, doesn’t

October 28, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

dirty-grandpa-slide1Robert De Niro is back in comedy territory, but this time he’s got a very good looking grandson, as Zac Efron co-stars in Dirty Grandpa.

Efron plays a young man who’s about to get married, but who following the death of his grandmother is tricked into driving his granddad (De Niro), a perverted former Army general, to Florida for spring break. It’s cross-generation odd couple time, as Efron’s character is uptight while De Niro likes to have fun and party.

I think you can probably already tell what direction the film is taking.

The first trailer has arrived, which actually tones down the movie a little, including adding CG underwear onto Efron at one point (previous set photos have shown he was really wearing skin-coloured ‘nude’ underpants so he should be more naked in the movie). [Read more…]

Michelle Rodriguez & Sigourney Weaver Starring In Trans-Themed Thriller Tomboy, A Revenger’s Tale

October 28, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

michelle-rodriguezWhile there’s more visibility for transgender people than ever before, not all the coverage has been 100% positive or dealt properly with the issues it raises. As a result there are a few people who are likely to greet the news that bisexual star Michelle Rodriguez is set to star in Tomboy, A Revenger’s Tale with a bit of trepidation.

THR reports that the films ‘centers on an ace assassin who is double-crossed by gangsters and falls into the hands of rogue surgeon known as “The Doctor,” who turns him into a woman. The hitman (now a hitwoman) sets out for revenge, aided by a nurse named Johnnie, who also has secrets.’

Rodriguez is set to play the central assassin, a role previously linked to Freida Pinto, while Sigourney Weaver will be the surgeon.

Although some will worry it will belittle trans people, hopefully it will treat the issues well (you’d hope Rodriguez and Weaver wouldn’t be involved if it didn’t) and expand responsible transgender stories into more mainstream territory.

Walter Hill will write and direct.

October 28, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

ryan-reynolds-slideRyan Reynolds may soon be heading back into the world of superheroes for Deadpool, but he’s also planning something a little different, as Deadline reports he’s in final talks to star in Truth In Advertising.

John Kenney wrote the screenplay, based on his own novel. In the movie, ‘Reynolds plays Fin Dolan, whose boss asks him to cancel his Christmas vacation to work on an ad campaign. When his best friend announces she has just been proposed to and his estranged father lands in the hospital, Fin begins to wonder why everyone else is moving forward with their lives while he is stuck in neutral.’

Grinder Trailer – A former gay-for-pay hustler becomes obsessed with a young runaway

October 27, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

grinder-trailer-slideWe cover quite a lot of crowdfunding campaigns on BGPS, so it’s always good to see a film that’s made it into post-production thanks to a Kickstarter, rather than just disappearing, never to be heard from again. We covered the campaign for Grinder back in June 2014, and now it’s reached the stage where the trailer for the film has been released.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Grinder is a film about a teenage runaway, Luke, who is seduced to move into New York city by a model agent from his troubled suburban home. An older photographer, Tim, becomes obsessed with Luke and tries to pull him out of the dark world he is sinking into.

‘The film stars Jon Fleming (Will and Grace, Dante’s Cove), Brandon Ruckdashel (Co-ed Confidential, The Lair), and newcomer Tyler Austin. Brandon also wrote Grinder and it is his directorial debut.’

Grinder is currently being submitted to film festivals and is expected to make a 2016 premier. [Read more…]

#NoHomo Episodes 6-8 – Pretending to be gay ends up with a sausage fest for two straight guys

October 27, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

nohomo-ep8In the first five episodes, straight guys Tyler and Skyler (played by models Christian Plauche & Matthew Egan) haven’t exactly had a huge amount of luck with their plan to convince women to sleep with them by pretending to be gay.

Things don’t go a huge amount better in eps. 5, 7 and 8, but they’re ready to give up quite yet.

Although from the outside it might sound like the show is making fun of being gay, the makers are keen to point out that, ‘By reversing the roles of fitting into heteronormative society, the show is a parody of the stereotypes that plague the LGBT community and boasts a strong message, we are more successful when we are ourselves.’

You can the earlier episodes here, here, and here, and then catch up with the series in the videos below. [Read more…]

ben-whishaw-london-spyI actually spotted Ben Whishaw during the filming of London, when he was shooting a scene on the platforms at London’s Paddington Station. Now we get out first proper taste of the TV drama with a trailer.

Written by Child 44 author Tom Robb Smith, in London Spy Whishaw is Danny, an outgoing and pleasure-seeking gay romantic who becomes embroiled in the world of British espionage after falling for the enigmatic Alex (Wolf Hall’s Edward Holcroft). However, when Alex disappears, Danny must decide whether he is prepared to find out what has happened to him. Charlotte Rampling and Jim Broadbent also star.

Noomi Rapace Up For Enzo Ferrari Biopic, Opposite Christian Bale

October 27, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

noomi-rapaceA couple of months ago news emerged that Christian Bale had signed on to play the central role in a biopic of Enzo Ferrari that director Michael Mann has been planning for many years.

Now THR adds that Noomi Rapace is in talks to star, with Paramount picking up the project to fund it.

The film apparently concentrates on a single year, 1957. That year is particularly significant for the Italian car-maker, as it was when Ferrari driver, Alfonso de Portago, was killed during the Mille Miglia race. The driver and nine spectators died when a tire blew out and his car careened into the roadside crowd.

It caused a major crisis for Ferrari that could have destroyed the company, especially as Enzo was charged with manslaughter over the event. Rapace would play Farrari’s wife, Laura Dominica.

Elizabeth Banks Returning To Direct Pitch Perfect 3

October 27, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

elizabeth-banksHaving produced Pitch Perfect, Elizabeth Banks proved she has a deft touch as a director with the sequel, scoring a huge hit and a lot of laughs. Now Variety has officially confirmed that she’ll be back for the third movie, Pitch Perfect 3.

While earlier plans had been to hand the franchise to Hailee Steinfeld and a new set of actors, the success of Pitch Perfect 2 has resulted in a rethink, and Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson and Brittany Snow are all now set to return, with Kay Cannon once more writing the script.

There’s no news on the plot, although presumably it will see the now graduated Barden Bellas finding an excuse to sing together once more.

Banks is also attached to helm Red Queen and a Charlie’s Angels, but Pitch Perfect 3 is likely to come first, as Universal has already set a summer 2017 release date.

The Overnight (DVD/VoD Review)

October 26, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Adam Scott, Taylor Schilling, Jason Schwartzman, Judith Godrèche
Director: Patrick Brice
Running Time: 79 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: October 26th 2015 (UK)

Sometimes when it comes to indie film darlings it’s difficult to see what all the fuss was about. With The Overnight that’s not too much of an issue, as while it might not quite deserve some of the raves it received following its first festival screenings, it’s still a good movie.

Alex (Adam Scott) and Emily (Taylor Schilling) are a 30-something couple with a kid, who are newly arrived in California. It’s not been an easy move, with stay-at-home dad Alex feeling slightly dislocated and friendless. He randomly meets Kurt (Jason Schwartzman) in the park, who invites Alex and Emily over to his house for the evening.

Once there they meet Kurt’s French wife Charlotte (Judith Godrèche), and Alex and Emily can’t help but feel they may have found some firm friends in the arty, free-thinking, bohemian and seemingly cool couple. As the evening goes on the straitlaced Emily and Alex begin to loosen up – thanks to some liquor and pot – but while Alex feels increasingly free and with his inhibitions falling away, Emily begins to wonder whether Kurt and Charlotte are a bit too freethinking and strange.
