Prometheus 2 Set For 2016 Release, With Michael Green Scripting

March 25, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

prometheus-review-slideEver since the release of Prometheus there’s been talk of a sequel, but actually getting it made has always seemed quite far off. However now Fox must feel things are moving in the right direction as several sources are saying is the Ridley Scott title that was given a March 4th, 2016 release date last week.

That info comes at the same time TheWrap reports that screenwriter Michael Green (Green Lantern) has signed up to rewrite the script for Prometheus 2. Green is taking over from Jack Paglen (Transcendence), who’s been working on the project since last June.

Prometheus 2 is said have a more terrifying and less enigmatic tone than 2012’s Prometheus. It’s also believed it will include multiple versions of the android David, played by Michael Fassbender.

While no cast members have officially signed on, it’s believed both Fassbender and Noomi Rapace will return.

Green’s hiring suggests Ridley Scott thinks he’s been doing good work on the Untitled Blade Runner Project that’s in development – although Prometheus 2 will com first, as it’s believed it will shoot this autumn, once Scott has complete Exodus.

House Of Card’s Corey Stoll Joins Marvel’s Ant-Man

March 25, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

corey-stollThe Ant-Man cast continues to grow with the news that the always excellent Corey Stoll (House Of Card, Midnight In Paris) has joined the cast, according to TheWrap, although it’s not known who he will play.

He’ll star alongside Michael Douglas and Paul Rudd as original Ant-Man Hank Pym and his eventual successor Scott Lang. Evangeline Lilly will be the female lead, who is rumoured to be Pym’s daughter and Lang’s love interest.

Patrick Wilson and Michael Pena are also set for currently unknown roles (although it’s believed Pena will be a villain).

Marvel hasn’t officially released any plot details, but it’s believed the story starts in the 1960s, where Hank Pym, who has invented technology that can shrink him to a tiny size, is working as a spy fighting Communism for the government. The story then shifts to the present day, where Michael Douglas is an older Hank Pym. It’s been suggested Paul Rudd’s Scott Lang initially steals Pym’s tech, but eventually starts to work with him and become the Ant-man.

Edgar Wright is directing from a script he co-wrote with Joe Cornish. Filming begins next month.

First Kiss New Zealand – Gay guys lock lips to support safe sex

March 24, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

A couple of weeks ago the short film First Kiss – which brought together 20 strangers to document their first snog – went massively viral, being watched by nearly 70 million people. Since then the varnish slightly wore off when it was revealed that it was actually an advert. Some were also slightly annoyed that while straight people and two women were shown passionately locking lips, the two men paired who were paired up couldn’t manage more than a self-conscious chaste peck in a rather ‘no-one-must-think-we’re-gay’ way.

The film has inspired many other to have a go at their own versions – some of them serious and some comic – and now New Zealand safe sex advocacy group ‘Love Your Condom’ has stepped up with a take that promotes responsible nookie, and also redresseses the man-on-man balance by getting 10 guys to kiss for the very first time.

It’s sexy, fun and has a good messages. Plus, there’s no chaste pecking on the lips here. Now we just have to wait for some enterprising porn company to come up with a very NSFW version (and no, that isn’t a suggestion if any porn companies are reading this). [Read more…]

Not Looking Episode 3 – Drew Droege looks for love in all the wrong places in the gay web series

March 24, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The Looking parody, Not Looking, continues with the third of its five episodes. This time the focus shifts to Drew Droege’s Danton, who thinks he dealing with getting a little bit older as a gay man in an age obsessed world – even if he’s not going to reveal his actual age.

However dating doesn’t get easier when you get older, as Danton discovers when he finds guys who are more of a mess than he is.

Not Looking is certainly turning out to be fun, and to be honest, it’s probably as attuned to modern gay life as the HBO show that inspired it, exploring it in a much briefer time but with almost as much insight (but then, Looking’s insight was a bit dodgy at times anyway. Take a look at the latest episode above.

Little Horribles Gay Web Series – Inside the life of a self-indulgent lesbian

March 24, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Little Horribles has had a fair amount of success. The web series has gained the attention of the likes of Sarah Silverman, and many others have been impressed by this trip into the ”darkly comedic web series following the poor decisions of a self-indulgent lesbian.’

Written and created by Amy York Rubin, the show ‘chronicles all those things that really aren’t that big of a deal and follows Amy as she navigates her thirties in Los Angeles. Little Horribles rips apart and laughs in the face of those painfully uncomfortable moments that no one wants to remember, but everyone does.’

The entire first series is now online and you can watch it above. It’s a surprising witty and compulsive series with a smart voice and a lot of great talent involved. You can find out more over on the show’s website. [Read more…]

March 24, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

X-Men: Days of Future Past always looked like it was gonna be a big movie, but it’s not until this trailer that we’ve been able to see just how massive it is. Edge Of Tomorrow Tease – Take a brief look at the Tom Cruise sci-fi ahead of tomorrow’s trailer

March 24, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Trailers for trailer are a bit of an odd thing, but when it’s an original movie with a massive budget, you can understand why a studio would think letting people know a trailer is coming and what they might expect. Now a brief look at Edge Of Tomorrow has arrived ahead of tomorrow’s full trailer – and it’s here to show this is going to be sci-fi on a huge scale.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘The epic action of ‘Edge of Tomorrrow’ unfolds in a near future in which an alien race has hit the Earth in an unrelenting assault, unbeatable by any military unit in the world.

‘Major William Cage (Cruise) is an officer who has never seen a day of combat when he is unceremoniously dropped into what amounts to a suicide mission. Killed within minutes, Cage now finds himself inexplicably thrown into a time loop—forcing him to live out the same brutal combat over and over, fighting and dying again…and again.

‘But with each battle, Cage becomes able to engage the adversaries with increasing skill, alongside Special Forces warrior Rita Vrataski (Blunt). And, as Cage and Rita take the fight to the aliens, each repeated encounter gets them one step closer to defeating the enemy.

‘The international cast also includes Bill Paxton (“Aliens,” HBO’s “Big Love”), Kick Gurry (Australian TV’s “Tangle”), Dragomir Mrsic (“Snabba Cash II”), Charlotte Riley (“World Without End”), Jonas Armstrong (BBC TV’s “Robin Hood”), and Franz Drameh (“Attack the Block”).

‘Liman is directing “Edge of Tomorrow” from a screenplay by Christopher McQuarrie and Jez Butterworth & John-Henry Butterworth, based on the acclaimed novel All You Need is Kill by Hiroshi Sakurazaka.’

It’s out at the end of May. [Read more…]

Ellen Page May Be John Belushi’s Wife Alongside Emile Hirsch In A New Biopic

March 24, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Ellen-Page
A couple of months ago Emile Hirsch and Miles Teller signed on to star in a biopic of legendary comic John Belushi. Now it’s time for the movie to get a bit of female energy, as TheWrap reports that Ellen Page is in talks to play Judith Jacklin, John Belushi’s wife.

Steve Conrad (The Weather Man) wrote the screenplay and is directing the biopic, which follows John Belushi’s (Emile Hirsch) life until his tragic death at the age of 33 from a heroin overdose. The story is said to be an allegory that illuminates the highs and lows of the American dream.

Teller is set to be Dan Aykroyd, became one of Belushi’s main comedy partners, working with him on Saturday Night Live and making the likes of Blues Brother together.

Jacklin meanwhile was Belushi’s high school girlfriend, who later became his wife. Both Page and Teller will have firsthand experience to draw on as Aykroyd and Judith (who now goes by the surname Belushi-Pisano) are acting as producers.
