Uma Thurman Up To Join Jesse Eisenberg In American Ultra

March 8, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

uma-thurmanUma Thurman has a new role as THR reports that she is in negotiations to board the action comedy American Ultra. Assuming she does sign on, she’ll join the already attached Jesse Eisenberg and Kristen Stewart.

The film is about Mike, a lazy stoner (Eisenberg), who lives a quiet life with his girlfriend (Stewart). However one random night their lives change when something from Mike’s past surfaces. He then finds himself in the middle of a government operation that is trying to kill him. It’s not clear who Thurman will play.

Max Landis wrote the screenplay, with Nima Nourizadeh directing. Filming is set to begin in April.

Divergent’s Shailene Woodley Suggests She’s Kinda Queer

March 6, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

divergent-pic3Shailene Woodley seems poised on the brink of a new level of stardom. Early tracking suggests Divergent could make as much as $65 million in its opening weekend in the US (it’s released March 21st in North America), which would put it on a par with the first Twilight movie.

However she isn’t going to let that possible impending success stop her from saying what she thinks, including a new interview where she suggests she’s some kind of queer, even if she resists labels. She tells THR, “I fall in love with human beings based on who they are, not based on what they do or what sex they are.”

It’s not clear if she’s ever has dated a woman, but it certainly seems she wouldn’t rule it out. And from previous statements she’s suggested shes resistant to putting labels on things, so all the shades of queer seems to cover what she is.

It’s perhaps not surprising she feels this way as Woodley has a rather hippie spirit. She says her religion is the earth, and she loves to hug everyone she meets. She’s also started speeches by leading people in guided meditations and likes to forage for food in the woods.

Woodley is definitely an interesting character.

Grace Of Monaco Trailer – Nicole Kidman plays the iconic Grace Kelly

March 6, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Grace Of Monaco has had a few issues. It was originally due for a prime Oscar-bait Christma release in the US, but it got caught up in a massive battle between director Olivier Dahan and the notoriously cut-happy producer Harvey Weinsten, who wanted to release his own version the movie. The fight resulted in the movie getting shunted and it’s unclear when it will come out in the US.

However in the UK there’s a different distributor, Warner Bros., and so a lot fewer problems. They’ve now who’ve set a June 6th British release, as well as briging out a poster and full trailer, which you can see here.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Set in 1962, six years after her celebrated Wedding of the Century, GRACE OF MONACO is an intimate snapshot of a year in the life of the twentieth century’s most iconic Princess – Grace Kelly – as she strived to reconcile her past and her present, a yearning for a return to the big screen with her newfound role as a mother of two, monarch of a European principality and wife to Prince Ranier III.

‘While contemplating overtures from Alfred Hitchcock to return to her career in Hollywood, Grace found herself plunged into a personal crisis when Rainier’s modernization of an ailing Monaco was halted by Charles de Gaulle – the French President – and his attempts to not only impose French taxation on Monaco, but reclaim the principality for France by force.

‘The full-blown international crisis and impending French invasion that loomed – would pose a crisis not just for her family, her marriage and her country, but in Grace’s private life. It would become the moment in which a cinematic icon, an American far from home, would have to face a tough decision – return to her celebrated status as a movie star, globally loved and adored, or accept that she will never act again, embrace her new role and her new identity, her duty to her husband, her children, and the world’s second smallest country that has now become her home.

‘Grace of Monaco is a real-life fairytale, a sweeping romance, a portrait of the cinematic legend of Princess Grace and a realization that love is much more than a passion, but an obligation.’ [Read more…]

Annie Trailer – Cameron Diaz & Quvenzhané Wallis have a hard knock life

March 6, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The new version of Annie has always been slightly intriguing, with the 80s movie that was set in the 1930s brought up to date, with Will Smith and Jay-Z both involved with updating the score. Now we get out first taste of the movie, which seems keen to suggest that despite the shift in time, it’s not going to be too far from the musical many know and love – the sun will still be coming out tomorrow and it remains a hard knock life.

The plot also remains the same, with orphan Annie (Quvenzhane Wallis) having a hard-luck life in the foul orphanage run by Miss Hannigan (Cameron Diaz). She’s then taken in by the filthy rich Benjamin Stacks (Jamie Foxx). In this version he’s running for office and initially just wants Annie so the press will se him being nice to an orphan, but he soon falls for the plucky youngster’s charms. And then Annie’s real parents are found, or are they?

Will Gluck is directing from his own screenplay, which was originally written by Aline Brosh McKenna and Emma Thompson. Annie is currently set for release December 25th, 2014. [Read more…]

Frank Trailer – Michael Fassbender hides inside a giant papier mache head

March 6, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

I bet not that many people thought they’d see Michael Fassbender in a film where he spends most of his time wearing a giant papier mache head, but that’s exactly what he does in Frank. The film see Fassbender as Chris Sievey’s creation, Frank Sidebottom.

Sidebottom is a strange figure, who isn’t that well known to the old or the young, but to a certain generation of Brits (and Irishmen, as Fassbender) who were young in the mid-80s through the early 90s, he something of an unexpected icon. With his unique voice, giant spherical head, musical stylings and endless idiosyncracies he became beloved by many. And now he’s got a movie.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Acclaimed Irish director Lenny Abrahamson follows up his award-winning films Adam & Paul, Garage and What Richard Did with an offbeat comedy about a young wannabe musician, Jon (Domhnall Gleeson), who finds himself out of his depth when he joins an avant-garde pop band led by the mysterious and enigmatic Frank (Michael Fassbender), a musical genius who hides himself inside a large fake head, and his terrifying bandmate Clara (Maggie Gyllenhaal).

‘Written by Jon Ronson (The Men Who Stare At Goats) and Peter Straughan (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, The Men Who Stare At Goats), FRANK is based on the memoir by Jon Ronson. It is a fictional story loosely inspired by Frank Sidebottom, the persona of cult musician and comedy legend Chris Sievey, as well as other outsider musicians like Daniel Johnston and Captain Beefheart.’

Frank is out in the UK in May.

First Look At Dane DeHaan As James Dean & Robert Pattinson As Dennis Stock In Life

March 6, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

life-dane-dehaan1
When Dane DeHaan was cast as James Dean in Life, it seemed like a good fit, as the actor has more than a whiff of the 50s icon about him. Now we get our first look at him in the role, via EW, opposite Robert Pattinson as Life magazine photographer Dennis Stock.

The first pics features Dean and Stock traveling from the train station to Dean’s childhood home in Indiana.

The movie is a biopic about Dean and the friendship he formed with Life magazine photographer Dennis Stock (Pattinson). Stock was an up-and-coming photographer who took a gig in the early 1950s with the Magnum agency to shoot an emerging actor called James Dean.

The two men soon connected, with their friendship being charted through the iconic photos taken over the course of their friendship, which included a road trip from Los Angeles to New York and Indiana. This trip occurred just before Dean became a star. A few months later, he died in a fatal car accident.

It’s not known if the film will suggest Dean was bisexual (as many believe he was).

Anton Corbijn is directing the movie from a script by Luke Davies. The director comments ‘Rob has an intensity that I think Dennis would have. When I see Rob, I see an inner turmoil that is great for the role. And Dane is really interesting. He has a beautiful face, but it’s a hard face to grasp. It’s hard to see how Dane reads sometimes, and the same thing goes for James Dean.’

It’s currently unclear when we’ll get to see the movie.

Johnny Depp Gets Pixelated In A New Transcendence Poster

March 6, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

transcendence-poster2
Sometimes Johnny Depp doesn’t seem quite like a normal human, and that’s certainly going to be true in Transcendence, where he puts his mind inside a computer. Now a new poster has arrived in which he gets a little pixelated.

Here the synopsis: ‘Dr. Will Caster (Johnny Depp) is the foremost researcher in the field of Artificial Intelligence, working to create a sentient machine that combines the collective intelligence of everything ever known with the full range of human emotions. His highly controversial experiments have made him famous, but they have also made him the prime target of anti-technology extremists who will do whatever it takes to stop him. However, in their attempt to destroy Will, they inadvertently become the catalyst for him to succeed—to be a participant in his own transcendence. For his wife Evelyn (Rebecca Hall) and best friend Max Waters (Paul Bettany), both fellow researchers, the question is not if they can…but if they should. Their worst fears are realized as Will’s thirst for knowledge evolves into a seemingly omnipresent quest for power, to what end is unknown. The only thing that is becoming terrifyingly clear is there may be no way to stop him.’

Transcendence co-stars Morgan Freeman, Cillian Murphy and Kate Mara. The film is due out in April.

Jude Law Joins Melissa McCarthy & Jason Statham In Susan Cooper

March 6, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

jude-lawFor a while Melissa McCarthy has been attached to the spy comedy Susan Cooper, which will reunite her with Bridemaids and The Heat director Paul Feig. More recently Jason Statham signed up to star. Now they have some company as Variety reports that Jude Law is set to join the film.

Not too much info has been released about the movie, other than that it’s about an unlikely female secret agent, played by McCarthy. Statham is a spy on the same side as the title character. There’s not a huge amount more info than that, although it’s previously been said that the film was inspired by the grittiness of Casino Royale, even if it gives a more comedic spin to things.

There’s no news on who Jude Law will play.

Paul Feig is directing from his own original screenplay. Shooting it expected to start this spring, once McCarthy has completed the latest season of Mike & Molly.

Now thanks to EW we have a look at mother and daughter in the movie – and we hope it didn’t bother the youngster that her mom plays a villain who’s vowed to destroy her.

Maleficent rises to be the land’s fiercest protector, but she ultimately suffers a ruthless betrayal—an act that begins to turn her pure heart to stone. Bent on revenge, Maleficent faces an epic battle with the invading king’s successor and, as a result, places a curse upon his newborn infant Aurora. Daniel Espinosa Will Lay Blood On Snow For Leonardo DiCaprio

March 6, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

daniel-espinosaBack in October, Leonardo DiCaprio signed up to develop an adaptation of Jo Nesbo’s novel, Snow On Blood, which he was eyeing to star in. He’s still interesting in appearing in the movie and now he’s lined up a director, as Deadline reports that Safe House and the upcoming Child 44’s Daniel Espinosa is in talks to star.

The book is about a hitman who is tasked with killing his boss’ wife. However an unexpected problem arises when he begins to fall in love with his mark. The novel is set to be published this spring, with a sequel, Blood On The Snow 2: More Blood, already planned for in 2015.

To make things a little more interesting, Nesbø wrote both books under the pseudonym Tom Buchanan, who is set to become the victim in his 2016 book, The Kidnapping.

Leonardo DiCaprio is producing alongside his Appian Way Productions partner Jennifer Davisson Killoran, as well as Langley Park’s Jennifer Davisson Killoran. It’s not known when it might shoot.
