Noomi Rapace Playing Seven Characters In What Happened to Monday?

October 29, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Noomi-RapaceThe sci-fi thriller What Happened to Monday? has been in the works for quite a while, but it’s only now that it’s moving towards production with Noomi Rapace and director Tommy Wirkola signing up, according to THR.

Back in December 2011, Norwegian director Morten Tyldum (Headhunters) was attached to make his English-language debut with the movie, however he moved on and is making The Imitation Game instead. The movie is set in an overpopulated world where each family is only allowed one child.

Noomi Rapace is actually playing seven different roles as identical septuplet sisters, who try to remain hidden from the government. The lead role/roles were initially envisioned as seven brothers before Noomi Rapace came onboard. Wirkola commented,”I was struck by the complexities of having an actor portray seven characters and immediately knew Noomi was the ideal actor – male or female – to bring them to life.”

Max Botkin wrote the screenplay, which landed on The Black List in 2010.

Final Hunger Games: Catching Fire Trailer – Katniss is back in the arena very soon

October 28, 2013 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

It’s just a few weeks until the November 22nd release of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, and now there’s a final trailer, showing off the action and excitement. While earlier promos have concentrated on the early parts of the movie, this one takes us straight into the jungle arena and suggests it’s going to be just as dangerous as last time.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE begins as Katniss Everdeen has returned home safe after winning the 74th Annual Hunger Games along with fellow tribute Peeta Mellark. Winning means that they must turn around and leave their family and close friends, embarking on a “Victor’s Tour” of the districts. Along the way Katniss senses that a rebellion is simmering, but the Capitol is still very much in control as President Snow prepares the 75th Annual Hunger Games (The Quarter Quell) – a competition that could change Panem forever.

‘THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE is directed by Francis Lawrence, and produced by Nina Jacobson’s Color Force in tandem with producer Jon Kilik. The novel on which the film is based is the second in a trilogy that has over 50 million copies in print in the U.S. alone. THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE opens on November 22, 2013.’ [Read more…]

Bad Grandpa Tops The US Box Office, With The Counselor Sinking

October 28, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

jackass-bad-grandpa-posterAs many expected, the power of Jackass won out over the weekend, with Bad Grandpa taking the top spot with $32 million. Although that’s around $20 million less than the opening of Jackass 3-D, the film cost little to make and will prove very profitable.

However there was less cheer for Ridley Scott’s The Counselor, which despite a starry cast and a script by Cormac McCarthy, only placed fourth on the chart with $8.0. Indeed it may have been the problem that the promotion so heavily sold the stars – such as Michael Fassbender, Cameron Diaz and Brad Pitt – that they forgot to tell anyone what the movie was actually about. Bad reviews certainly didn’t help.

While those were the only new openers in the top 10, 12 Years A Slave made its first appeared after expanding onto 123 screens (after just 19 last week), taking $2.1 million to place eighth. It suggest the movie will stay strong as in goes into more cinemas over the coming weeks.

Take a look below for the US box office top 10 for the weekend of October 25th-27th.

Rank Title Weekend Gross (millions) Total Gross to date (millions)
1 Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa $32.0 $32.0
2 Gravity $20.3 $199.8
3 Captain Phillips $11.8 $70.0
4 The Counselor $8.0 $8.0
5 Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs 2 $6.1 $100.6
6 Carrie $5.9 $26.0
7 Escape Plan $4.3 $17.4
8 12 Years A Slave $2.1 $3.4
9 Enough Said $1.5 $13.0
10 Prisoners $1.0 $59.1

Former Calvin Klein Model Travis Fimmel Will Heat The Screen In World Of Warcraft

October 26, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Travis-Fimmel-Baytown-Outlaws2-slide
Travis Fimmel first turned heads as a Calvin Klein model, and since then the Aussie has turned actor in the likes of Vikings and The Baytown Outlaws. Now he’s scored his biggest break yet, as Variety reports that after a long search, Legendary Pictures wants him to take the lead role in the adaptation of the World Of Warcraft video game (currently simply titled Warcraft).

No formal offer has been made yet, but sources claim believe Fimmel will indeed sign on for one of the project’s four man characters. Unfortunately it’s known exactly which character he’ll play. He’ll certainly make an extremely handsome addition to the cast – and if you want to see just how hot he is, click here.

Last month it was reported Fimmel was on a short list of candidates, along with the likes of Paul Dano, Anton Yelchin and Anson Mount. It isn’t known if any of those actors will be offered any of the other major role. It was recently revealed that Paula Patton is in talks for a role, and that Colin Farrell was offered another part. Patton’s negotiations are still ongoing, but Farrell’s deal isn’t progressing as quickly.

Duncan Jones (Moon, Source Code) is directing from a screenplay by Charles Leavitt (Seventh Son). Shooting is scheduled to begin in January in Vancouver. It’s currently due for release on December 18th, 2015.

Disney-Pixar recently delayed The Good Dinosaur from 2014 to Thanksgiving 2015, but they’re still keen to let us know it’s coming, as they’ve released the first poster for the movie.

As a result, we get to meet Arlo the Dinosaur and his new friend. The film is set in an alternate reality where the meteor that wiped out the dinosaurs 65 million years ago missed the earth. As a result Dinosaurs still rule as the dominant species, even though there’s still space for human to have evolved. One day, a young dinosaur discovers a toddler and his family decides to adopt it as their own.

Hopefully we’ll get to see more from the movie soon.

Ben Affleck Plans Geopolitical African Thriller

October 26, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

ben-affleckBen Affleck is busy wearing his acting shoes at the moment, shooting David Fincher’s Gone Girl and preparing to play Batman in the highly-anticipated follow-up to Man Of Steel. However he has no plans to stop directing and now Deadline reports Warner Bros. has acquired an untitled thriller for Affleck to star in and direct.

Will Staples (World’s Most Wanted) is set to write the script. It’s said to be set in Africa and follows a group of mercenaries hired to kill a ruthless warlord. The project is described as an action movie that also explores themes of philanthropy and the moral ambiguities of foreign assistance in other countries.

Affleck himself had the original idea for the movie, which he pitched then to Will Staples, and Warner signed on to develop. It’s in the early stages at the moment, so don’t expect it anytime soon.

Hottie Luke Grimes Joins Fifty Shades of Grey

October 26, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Luke-GrimesNow that Jamie Dornan has stepped into the role of Christian Grey, after it was vacated by Charlie Hunnam, Universal and director Sam Taylor-Johnson are rushing to fill out the rest of the Fifty Shades Of Grey cast. They’ve now signed Luke Grimes as Christian’s brother, Elliot, according to Variety.

Dakota Johnson is set to play Anastasia Steele, a young college student who strikes up a steamy, S&M filled affair with 27-year-old billionaire Christian Grey. Jennifer Ehle is also attached as Anastasia’s mother, Carla.

Variety notes that there are still key supporting roles to be cast, such as Anastasia’s roommate and Christian’s bodyguard, which have the potential to be break-out roles for any young actor.

Grimes is known for playing Ryan in TV’s Brothers & Sisters, and has also appeared in All The Boys Love Mandy Lane (which was his debut), Taken 2 and Season 6 of True Blood. He’ll have a big summer 2014, because as well as Fifty Shades, he’s also due to appear in Transformers: Age of Extinction.

Sam Taylor-Johnson is directing from a screenplay by Kelly Marcel, which is being polished by Patrick Marber. Production starts next month in Vancouver.
