The sci-fi thriller What Happened to Monday? has been in the works for quite a while, but it’s only now that it’s moving towards production with Noomi Rapace and director Tommy Wirkola signing up, according to THR.
Back in December 2011, Norwegian director Morten Tyldum (Headhunters) was attached to make his English-language debut with the movie, however he moved on and is making The Imitation Game instead. The movie is set in an overpopulated world where each family is only allowed one child.
Noomi Rapace is actually playing seven different roles as identical septuplet sisters, who try to remain hidden from the government. The lead role/roles were initially envisioned as seven brothers before Noomi Rapace came onboard. Wirkola commented,”I was struck by the complexities of having an actor portray seven characters and immediately knew Noomi was the ideal actor – male or female – to bring them to life.”
Max Botkin wrote the screenplay, which landed on The Black List in 2010.
