Shia LaBeouf Joins Brad Pitt in Fury

April 24, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Shia-LaBeoufWhen Shia LaBeouf announced he was ‘done’ with Hollywood, many presumed that meant we’d only see him in little, edgy movies from now on, but it seems he is interested in keeping his star alive, as yesterday we reported he’s in talks to join Robert de Niro in Spy’s Kid, and now Variety reports that he’s likely to join Brad Pitt in the World War II movie, Fury.

Based on a true story the drama is about a five-man American tank crew towards the end of World War II, who must fight an increasingly desperate Nazi army in April 1945. Shia LaBeouf will play one of the Sherman tank crew members, if a deal is finalised.

David Ayer (End Of Watch) is directing from his own original screenplay. Filming is scheduled to begin this September, with a release date of November 14, 2014 already set.

Lee Pace On For Guardians of the Galaxy Villain

April 24, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Lee Pace

Lee Pace

During the fairly lengthy search for the lead role of Peter Quill (AKA Star Lord) in Guardians Of The Galaxy, one of the frontrunners was Pushing Daisies star Lee Pace. He may not have bagged that role, but he has landed one of the other, playing the movie’s villain.

Although the villain’s identity has not been disclosed, many feel there is a good chance that he may play Taneleer Tivan, also known as The Collector. Just yesterday it was revealed that Ophelia Lovibond is playing one of The Collector’s henchmen, so we do know that character is in the movie. In the Marvel comic books, The Collector seeks out life forms and universes to protect from the evil Thanos, whose presence was revealed at the end of Marvel’s The Avengers.

Dave Bautista (Drax the Destroyer), Zoe Saldana (Gamora), and Michael Rooker (Yondu) are also confirmed to star in this Marvel Phase Two adventure. James Gunn is directing from his own original screenplay, with production scheduled to commence in June. Lee Pace will next be seen in The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug as Thranduil.

Emma Stone in Talks to Join Woody Allen’s Next

April 24, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

emma-stoneWoody Allen likes to work with young ingénue, and now he’s got a new one as Variety reports that Emma Stone is in negotiations to play the lead in writer/director Allen’s next comedy project.

As always with Woody, at this stage no story details have been released, there’s no title for the movie and it is not known when the project will go into production.

At the moment the filmmaker is putting the finishing touches on his latest movie, Blue Jasmine, which stars Alec Baldwin, Cate Blanchett, Louis C.K., Michael Stuhlbarg, Peter Sarsgaard, Bobby Cannavale, Alden Ehrenreich, and Sally Hawkins. That’ll be out this summer, so presumably his new movie will start shooting after that.

Dodgeball Sequel Gets A Writer, With Ben Stiller & Vince Vaughn Expected To Return

April 23, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

dodgeball-posterIt’s nine years since Dodgeball hit cinemas, and ever since then there have been rumours of a sequel, which most fans thought were getting dimmer as the years passed. However, now the long gestating Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story follow-up is finally moving forward, with 20th Century Fox hiring Clay Tarver to write the screenplay.

THR reports that Ben Stiller and Vince Vaughn are expected to return, with Stiller’s Red Hour banner producing alongside Fox. The 2004 original followed a gym owner who rounds up a group of misfits for a Dodgeball tournament in order to save his property from a corporate gym take over. Stiller and Vaughn played enemies in the first film, but it’s said that the sequel will see them reluctantly team up to take on an even bigger threat.

It’s not definite that Dodgeball 2 will happen, as Jeff Sneider cautions that just because someone’s been hired to write a screenplay doesn’t mean all the elements will come together to get it made.

Star Trek Into Darkness Clip – Should Chris Pine allow Zachary Quinto to die?

April 23, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The first extended clip from Star Trek Into Darkness has arrived, which comes from early in the movie – indeed those who caught the IMAX prologue that was attached to The Hobbit will recognise much of the footage, although it’s been slightly tweaked for the final film.

It sees Spock stuck in a volcano and the only way to save him is to break the Prime Directive – which say Starfleet must not interfere in the development of more primitive civilisations. Will they break the rule to save Spock? Will he die? Why are Kirk and McCoy wearing shiny skin-tight suits?

We’ll be able to find out the answers when the film hits cinemas in the UK on May 9th and May 17th in the US.

Tom Hiddleston & Hayley Atwell Up For Robert Capa Biopic

April 23, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Tom Hiddleston at The Avengers LA PremiereThe last we heard about a planned biopic of war photographer Robert Capa, Michael Mann was planning to direct, with Andrew Garfield and Gemma Arterton were set to star. However that plan was dropped and since then Song For Marion director Paul Andrew Williams has picked up the idea of making a Capa film, and now he’s hired Tom Hiddleston and Hayley Atwell to star, according to Screen Daily.

The film, Close Enough, focuses on Capa’s early years, starting in Paris in 1935 where he is living as a refugee from fascist Hungary. There he meets German Jewish refugee Gerda Taro, with whom he starts a torrid two-year romance. In 1936 the Spanish Civil War breaks out, with Capa and Taro heading off to the frontline to make their names as a war photographers, with tragic consequences.

“The idea of bringing these two iconic, extraordinary characters to the big screen is one I relish,” Williams says. “Not only is it a beautiful love story, but Capa and Gerda influenced each other in such a dramatic way that it changed the idea of photo journalism for ever.

“I am more than delighted to be working with Tom and Hayley. After I met with Tom his passion for this project and his commitment to the script and character was so exciting.

“Hayley is someone I have wanted to work with for a long time and after a few near misses we have finally found, what I believe to be, the best project to collaborate on. The chemistry between Capa and Gerda was electric and I have confidence that Tom and Hayley will repeat that chemistry on film.”

A June shoot is planned.

April 23, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

liam-mcintyreThe battle of the Hercules movies is fast ramping up, with Dwayne Johnson and Brett Ratner teaming for a non-mythological take that will shoot this summer, while Renny Harlin has hired Kellan Lutz to his Greek hero in Hercules 3D. Now the latter movie has a new cast member, with Spartacus himself, Liam McIntyre swapping Rome for Greece, according to THR.

According to the trade, ‘McIntyre will play a young army captain who becomes Hercules’ most trusted battlefield companion. After an evil king deceives them, Hercules and the captain are sold into slavery and must fight side by side to earn their freedom.’

Harlin comments on the casting, “He’s infinitely entertaining to watch. I am lucky to have him play military commander, Sotiris, Hercules’ best friend. Their relationship begins antagonistic and develops into a close bond, forged in battle.”

First Look At Halle Berry In X-Men: Days Of Future Past

April 23, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

x-men-days-of-future-past-halle-berry
Halle Berry was one of the last original X-Men cast members to sign up for X-Men: Days Of Future Past, and shortly after that, a little confusion over her involvement emerged when it was announced she was pregnant. However she’s not letting that stop her, as proved by the pic above, which Bryan Singer tweeted, showing her back on set as Storm.

It’s a bit of a new look, for the weather-controlling mutant, who joins returning cast members Hugh Jackman, Ian McKellen, Patrick Stewart, Shawn Ashmore, Anna Paquin, Daniel Cudmore, Ellen Page and others, alongside the First Class cast.

The film sees a bit of time travelling, with the First Class crew having to prevent the assassination of a politician, which if it takes place will result in all mutants being rounded up and put in internment camps. It’s hit cinemas next summer.
