Joel Edgerton May Join Michael Fassbender & Natalie Portman In Jane Got a Gun

December 12, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Joel Edgerton is still waiting for the movie that will properly break him in Hollywood, but now Deadline reports that The Thing and Zero Dark Thirty actor has entered talks to join the cast of Jane Got a Gun for director Lynne Ramsay (We Need to Talk About Kevin).

Natalie Portman is already onboard to play Jane Hammond, a woman in the Old West who enlists the help of a former lover (Michael Fassbender) when a band of outlaws come searching for her husband. Joel Edgerton will play John Bishop, the villainous leader of this evil group.

Ramsay is set to direct from Brian Duffield’s Black Listed screenplay. It isn’t clear when production will begin.

Angry Birds Movie Set For Summer 2016

December 12, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Angry Birds is only three years old, but in that time it’s taken over the world of mobile gaming and has been downloaded over a billion time. Now Rovio Entertainment, the company behind the game, has announced that Despicable Me producer John Cohen has signed on to develop a planned Angry Birds movie.

David Maisel, former Chairman of Marvel Studios and executive producer of Iron Man, will be executive producer of the 3D CG-animated feature film, which they hope to get in cinemas Summer 2016. Interestingly, rather than getting a studio to develop the film and put up the budget, Rovio has decided to bet the farm and produce and finance the movie itself.

Rovio CEO Mikael Hed commented, “John is an exceptionally talented producer, and we’re delighted to have him join the flock. With John is an exceptionally talented producer, and we’re delighted to have him join the flock. With John’s hands-on producer background and David’s expertise in establishing and running his own successful studio, these two are the dream team for making a movie outside the studio system. Both professionals have the ideal skills and vision to achieve incredible things.”

Before working on Despicable Me, Cohen was VP of Production at Twentieth Century Fox Animation, working on movies such as Ice Age, Robots, Ice Age: The Meltdown and Dr. Seuss’ Horton Hears a Who. Cohen also had the idea to reimagine Alvin and the Chipmunks. He certainly knows what he’s doing.

He comments, “I’m so excited and honored to be working on this film with Mikael, David, and Rovio’s incredibly talented game developers and artists. From both an entertainment and strategic perspective, Rovio is at the forefront of game innovation and is trailblazing terrific new ways for Angry Birds fans to interact with these characters. I’ve personally spent countless hours playing the Angry Birds games over the last few years, which I can now happily justify as research for the movie.”

New Man Of Steel Trailer – Clark Kent is looking all kinds of hot

December 11, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Already today we’ve had trailers for After Earth and The Lone Ranger, and now it’s the turn of Man of Steel. All these big movie promos are lining up now in preparation to play ahead of The Hobbit. Man Of Steel is certainly one of the most intriguing. The trailer continues the introspective tone of the teasers, at least initially, before offering something a bit more explosive and action-packed at the end.

There’s definitely an attempt to sell this as the successor to The Dark Knight, although don’t be surprise if things get less artful and more bombastic as the June 14th release date approaches.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time. Clark Kent/Kal-El (Henry Cavill) is a young twentysomething journalist who feels alienated by powers beyond anyone’s imagination. Transported to Earth years ago from Krypton, an advanced alien planet, Clark struggles with the ultimate question – Why am I here? Shaped by the values of his adoptive parents Martha (Diane Lane) and Jonathan Kent (Kevin Costner), Clark soon discovers that having super abilities means making very difficult decisions. But when the world needs stability the most, it comes under attack. Will his abilities be used to maintain peace or ultimately used to divide and conquer? Clark must become the hero known as “Superman,” not only to shine as the world’s last beacon of hope but to protect the ones he loves.’

May we just say that Henry Cavill is looking gorgeous. Few people have ever looked so good in a spandex suit and cape. And when we say he’s looking hot we’re not just being metaphorical. Take a look at the screengrab below and drool.

Brenton Thwaites & Nicola Peltz Join Transformers 4

December 11, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The robots may be staying the same, but the human cast is getting a complete makeover for Transformers 4. So it’s out with Shia LaBeouf and Megan Fox (and indeed Rosie Huntington Whiteley), but up until now we’ve only that Mark Wahlberg would be amongst new human faces of the franchise.

However Twitch says they’ve found out who’s been offered the main young male and female roles – Brenton Thwaites and Nicola Peltz. While both are relative newcomers, former Home & Away actor Thwaites will soon be seen as the Young Prince in Maleficent. He beat out the likes of Hunter Parrish (Weeds), Luke Grimes (Taken 2), Landon Liboiron (Terra Nova), and Irise newcomer Jack Reynor for the role.

Peltz meanwhile has previously popped up in The Last Airbender and Deck The Halls. For her role, the likes of Isabelle Cornish (Abbie Cornish’s sister) and Margaret Qualley (daughter of Andie Macdowell) also tested

Peltz will play Wahlberg’s daughter, a high school senior, who at one point was apparently the main character although that’s apparently shifted to her dad in her recent drafts of the script. Thwaites will be her biker boyfriend.

So far neither Paramount nor director Michael Bay has confirmed the news, but an official announcement should be coming soon.

Brand New Les Miserables Song Arrives In New Featurette

December 11, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

While most of the score for the film version of Les Miserables is what lovers of the musical will know from the stage, there’s one new song that’s been added for the movie – ‘Suddenly’. Now a featurette has popped up all about the song, which was written by the creators of the original musical, Claude-Michel Schönberg and Alain Boublil. The featurette has people talking through most of it, but it does let us hear parts of the Hugh Jackman sung ditty.

The featurette is largely about the director, writer and producer telling us all about why this new tune was a necessary addition, although many will be wondering whether they’re protesting a little too much. Many people feel the only reason to add a fresh song is so that the film is  eligible for the Best Original Song Oscar, which is only open to new music written specifically for a film. It’s a strategy that’s worked before, such as the movie version of Evita picking up the award for the new song ‘You Must Love Me’.

Whether it’s needed or not, you can take a bit of a listen to ‘Suddenly’ above.

This Is 40 Red Band Trailer – Paul Rudd tries to look up his own butt

December 11, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The sort-of sequel to Knocked Up, This Is 40, hits UK cinemas on February 14th, and to get us excited things are getting a little rude with a new red band trailer, where Paul Rudd tries to look up his butt and Megan Fox shows off her bra. It looks like it could be a lot of fun.

The film focuses on Paul Rudd and Leslie Mann’s married couple from Knocked Up, Pete and Debbie, taking a look at their lives five years later as they reach their 40s. That involves a lot of dealing with kids, negotiating sex and putting up with the idiosyncracies of life. The film also stars Jason Segel, Chris O’Dowd, Melissa McCarthy and Albert Brooks.

New The Lone Ranger Trailer – Johnny Depp and Armie Hammer go for a western spectacular

December 11, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Mixing an old TV western with big budget action didn’t work to well with the Will Smith starrer The Wild Wild West, but then they said Pirate movies were box office poison until Jerry Bruckheimer, Gore Verbinski and Johnny Depp came up with Pirates Of The Caribbean. Now Bruckheimer, Verbinski and Depp are back with The Lone Ranger, and the first full trailer for the movie has now shown up.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘From producer Jerry Bruckheimer and director Gore Verbinski, the filmmaking team behind the blockbuster “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise, comes Disney/Jerry Bruckheimer Films’ “The Lone Ranger,” a thrilling adventure infused with action and humor, in which the famed masked hero is brought to life through new eyes.Native American spirit warrior Tonto (Johnny Depp) recounts the untold tales that transformed John Reid (Armie Hammer), a man of the law, into a legend of justice—taking the audience on a runaway train of epic surprises and humorous friction as the two unlikely heroes must learn to work together and fight against greed and corruption.’

The $200 million movie is due out August 2013.

After Earth Teaser – M. Night Shyamalan goes sci-fi with Jaden & Will Smith

December 11, 2012 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

Will and Jaden Smith aren’t having a good time in this teaser, after they crash land on a planet where “everything has evolved to kill humans”, and oh my God, that planet if Earth! M. Night Shyamalan’s movie looks like it could be rather cool, with a bit of an Avatar vibe going on.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘A crash landing leaves teenager Kitai Raige (Jaden Smith) and his legendary father Cypher (Will Smith) stranded on Earth, 1,000 years after cataclysmic events forced humanity’s escape. With Cypher critically injured, Kitai must embark on a perilous journey to signal for help, facing uncharted terrain, evolved animal species that now rule the planet, and an unstoppable alien creature that escaped during the crash. Father and son must learn to work together and trust one another if they want any chance of returning home.’

It’s due for release June 7th, 2013.

Matt Damon Says He Approached Jonathan Nolan About A New Bourne

December 11, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Although The Bourne Legacy might have caused a few complications for Matt Damon to return as Jason Bourne, it appears that both he and director Paul Greengrass are still interested in returning, at least in principle (they come as a package, as Damon has said he won’t make another without the director).

Now Damon has been talking to Deadline about a possible return to the series and says that he approached Jonathan Nolan about it. Jonathan has worked closely with his brother Chris on the likes of Memento, The Prestige and The Dark Knight movie, and also created TV’s Person Of Interest.

Damon says, “Just a couple things, really. Paul Greengrass has to want to do it, and secondly and equally important, it comes down to Paul and I knowing what the hell we want to do. We just don’t have a story, and we haven’t had one. I quietly went to Jonah Nolan, because he and his brother Chris did such a brilliant job on Batman and that whole mythology. I just said, can you put your brain on this? I can’t figure it out. And he took a run at it and he couldn’t crack it either. Paul and I have been talking about it for years. And we can’t quite see what the movie would be. If we could get line of sight on that…”

That doesn’t sound too hopeful, as it seem even Nolan couldn’t come up with something Damon and Greengrass thought worked. However the actor adds, “Neither of us is against it [returning to the Bourne franchise]. I would love to do another one. I love that character. To me, the reason to make that movie is because people want to see it. Paul and I have said that to each other. We don’t take for granted the fact that we’ve built an audience for Bourne, that’s a real privilege. But our part of that bargain is that the movie is good and belongs with the other three. Until we can deliver that, we just can’t make it.”

Universal is still very keen to bring Damon back, especially after Legacy did okay but made less money than any of Matt’s Bourne outings. It still one of their most important franchises though. However it seem getting him to return is going to be tough without the perfect story.

Director Burr Steers Plans To Breed In A New Horror Movie

December 11, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

In the last few years director Burr Steers has been in relatively warm and fuzzy territory with the likes of 17 Again and Charlie St. Cloud, but now he’s going in a slightly different direction with Breed, a movie based on a horror novel by Chase Novak (who’s also known as Scott Spencer).

Summit Entertainment has picked up the rights to the book, for Steers to write and direct, according to THR. The plot follows the a couple who take part in an experimental fertility treatment that turns them into bloodthirsty savages, leading them on a desperate quest to find a cure.

Spencer has penned 11 novels, although he’s best known for Endless Love, which has sold over two million copies and garnered a nomination for the National Book Award.

It isn’t known as this stage if Steers will try to bring Zac Efron on-board, although considering he’s Zac’s starred in the director’s last two movies it’s a distinct possibility.
