Jason Segel & Jesse Eisenberg Head For The End of the Tour

December 12, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Jason-SegelJason Segel and Jesse Eisenberg are on a collision course, as they have both signed up to star in James Ponsoldt’s upcoming true story adaptation The End of the Tour, according to TheWrap. They should certainly make an interesting if a little geeky pairing.

The film is based on David Lipsky’s verbosely titled, Although Of Course You End Up Becoming Yourself: A Road Trip with David Foster Wallace. It tells the story of a five-day road trip that took place at the tail end of novelist David Foster Wallace’s Infinite Jest tour. The author committed suicide on September 12, 2008, however many consider Infinity Jest to be one of the best books of the last 50 year.

Jason Segel will portray the late Wallace with Jesse Eisenberg taking on the role of the Rolling Stone reporter David Lipsky. James Ponsoldt is directing from a script by Donald Margulies. Filming should begin early next year.

Logo Revealed For Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar, With A Trailer Coming Soon

December 12, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

It’s just under a year until we can expect the next film from Christopher Nolan – Interstellar. Now Warner Bros. Pictures and Paramount Pictures have launched the official website for the film at Interstellarmovie.com, and along with that comes a first look at the logo. That’s ahead of a teaser trailer that’s expected to play alongside The Hobbit 2.

This being Nolan, everything’s still wrapped in secrecy, although the shoot has travelled the globe and as with his Batman film it has used a mix of 35mm and IMAX film photography. It’s based on a script by Jonathan Nolan, which Chris then rewrote. All that’s known is that it’s about a group of explorers who make use of a newly discovered wormhole to surpass the limitations on human space travel and conquer the vast distances involved in an interstellar voyage.

The film’s due out November 7th, 2014 and stars Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, Michael Caine, Bill Irwin, Casey Affleck, Mackenzie Foy and John Lithgow.

Hairspray & Rock Of Ages’ Gay Director Adam Shankman Heads For Rehab

December 11, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

adam-shankmanAdam Shankman, the openly gay director of Hairspray, Rock Of Ages and Bedtime Stories, has surprised many in Hollywood by announcing that he’s headed off to rehab to deal with an unspecified substance abuse issue. It was particularly unexpected as last weekend he directed and executive produced the Trevor Project’s TrevorLive event in Los Angeles.

US Weekly published a statement from Shankman’s representatives, simply saying, ‘Adam Shankman is currently seeking treatment in a rehabilitation center. His friends and family support him and wish him well on his journey to recovery.’

We wish him very well in his recovery.

Documentary About George Takei Heads For Sundance Premiere

December 11, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

george-takei
Everyone love George Takei, who manages the tricky feat of permanently having his tongue in his cheek but still managing to use his celebrity to challenge homophobia and make a difference. He’s now the subject of a documentary, To Be Takei, which George has announced on his Facebook page will be premièring at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival in January.

Here’s the film’s synopsis: ‘Over seven decades, actor and activist George Takei boldly journeyed from a WWII internment camp, to the helm of the starship Enterprise, to the daily news feeds of five million Facebook fans. Join George and his husband Brad on this star’s wacky and profound trek for life, liberty, and love.’

He’s certainly led an interesting life, and indeed he’s probably more famous and respected now than he has been at any time in his life – after all, even at the height of Star Trek, he had to stand at the back with Walter Koenig. Now he’s been embraced by a whole new generation, who adore his sense of humour, knack for social media and his heartfelt support of gay rights.

Indeed he’s so well loved there’s even a musical, called Takei: Allegiance, that plans to open in New York in 2014.

Edge Of Tomorrow Trailer – Tom Cruise dies over and over again in the action sci-fi!

December 11, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Another of the big movies that’s bidding for massive audiences next summer has released a trailer – the Tom Cruise sci-fi Edge Of Tomorrow.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘The epic action of ‘Edge of Tomorrow’ unfolds in a near future in which an alien race has hit the Earth in an unrelenting assault, unbeatable by any military unit in the world. Major William Cage (Tom Cruise) is an officer who has never seen a day of combat when he is unceremoniously dropped into what amounts to a suicide mission. Killed within minutes, Cage now finds himself inexplicably thrown into a time loop—forcing him to live out the same brutal combat over and over, fighting and dying again…and again. But with each battle, Cage becomes able to engage the adversaries with increasing skill, alongside Special Forces warrior Rita Vrataski (Emily Blunt). And, as Cage and Rita take the fight to the aliens, each repeated encounter gets them one step closer to defeating the enemy.’

The Doug Liman directed movie is out June 6th, 2014. There’s also a selection of new images which you can see below. [Read more…]

Prison Break’s Robert Knepper Up For Hunger Games: Mockingjay

December 11, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

robert-knepperWhen he was young, Robert Knepper was allowed to played good guys, however in recent years – particularly since his villainous role in Prison Break – he’s only been allowed to be a baddie. That’s not changing here.

The official Hunger Games Twitter has revealed that he’s signed up to appear in two-part The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, where he’ll be playing Antonius, who’s a minister to Donald Sutherland’s evil President Snow.

He joins a cast that already include Jennifer Lawrence (Katniss Everdeen), Josh Hutcherson (Peeta Mellark), Liam Hemsworth (Gale Hawthorne), Philip Seymour Hoffman (Plutarch Heavensbee), Julianne Moore (Alma Coin), Natalie Dormer (Cressida), Stef Dawson (Annie Cresta), Lily Rabe (Commander Lyme) and Evan Ross (Messalla).

Directed by Francis Lawrence and based on the novel Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 & The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 complete Katniss Everdeen’s (Jennifer Lawrence) journey as she leads the districts of Panem in a rebellion against the tyrannical and corrupt Capitol. As the war that will determine the fate of Panem escalates, Katniss must decipher for herself who she can trust and what needs to be done, with everything she cares for in the balance.

Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 will be released worldwide on November 21, 2014 and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 opens November 20, 2015.

Robert Pattinson, Juliette Binoche & Tim Roth Up For Brady Corbet’s Childhood of a Leader

December 11, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

robert-pattinson-diorBrady Corbet is best known for appearing in the likes of Mysterious Skin, Melancholia, Funny Games and Martha Marcy May Marlene. For a 25-year-old he’s had a lot of indie movie experience and he’s going to be putting that into practice as he’s now turning feature director with The Childhood of a Leader.

He’s lined up a great cast for the movie, as Variety reports that Juliette Binoche and Tim Roth will topline the film, with Robert Pattinson also set to star.

Corbet also co-wrote the script with Mona Fastvold. Unfortunately though there’s not much info on the plot, other than that it ‘focuses on the childhood of a post-World War I leader’. The movie is tentatively set to shoot next May in Europe.

Samuel L. Jackson in Talks To Join Alexander Skarsgard In Tarzan

December 11, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

samuel-l-jacksonAlexander Skarsgard and Christoph Waltz may have some company in Warner Bros.’ live action take on Tarzan, as Variety reports that Samuel L. Jackson is in talks for a role in the movie.

Harry Potter helmers David Yates is set to direct the movie. There’s no official details on the plot or the exact direction the movie will take the famed character, although we do know Skarsgard will be Tarzan, with Waltz playing the main villain.

It’s not 100% clear who Jackson will play, although it is known that an earlier incarnation of the character was called Williams and was described as “A Civil War veteran eager to redeem himself for his part in the massacre of Native Americans”. Jackson was flirting with the part some time ago, but backed out at the time due to scheduling issues. That allowed Jamie Foxx to step in. However the whole project was delayed for a rewrite and rejig, which has allowed Jackson to come back onboard.

Jason Clarke In Talks To Play John Connor In Terminator 5

December 11, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Jason-ClarkeA couple of days ago it was revealed that the planned new instalment of the Terminator franchise is currently going by the title Terminator: Genesis. Now it’s moving forward again, as Deadline reports that Jason Clarke is in early talks to play as John Connor in the movie.

Arnold Schwarzenegger is still attached to star. It was also recently reported that that Game of Thrones star Emilia Clarke and Brie Larson are the front runners to play Sarah Connor.

The ages of the actresses suggest the movie is going to involve some interesting time travel going on, as Clarke is 44, but will be playing the son of an actress in her mid-20s. Genesis also hints that this film will at least partially take place before the other movies. Of course Arnold Schwarzenegger is significantly older than he was in 1984, so it’ll be interesting to see if he’ll be playing another robotic clone, or if they’re going to deal with his aging.

The movie is also seeking an actor to play Kyle Reese, the father of John Connor who was played by Michael Biehn in The Terminator. Alan Taylor (Thor: The Dark World) is directing from a screenplay by Laeta Kalogridis and Patrick Lussier. A July 1st, 2015 release date has already been set.
