Walk On Trailer – New documentary looks at a disabled young man’s determination to join the LA AIDS Walk

November 2, 2013 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

The odds have been stacked against Joseph Kibler since birth. He was born disabled and HIV positive, and spent most of his childhood in a wheelchair. However he became determined to take part in the Los Angeles AIDS walk and to actually walk it, something most medical people thought would be impossible.

However, he has gone from wheelchair to crutches, and at the age of 18 he took his first steps. Even with that, completing the 6.2 miles of the walk is a tough ask.

The documentary Walk On looks at Kibler’s story. The film screens as part of the 2013 All Sports Film Festival in Los Angeles on Sunday, November 10 at The El Portal Theater. [Read more…]

Short Documentary About Tom Of Finland Shows Up Online

November 2, 2013 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

Tom-of-Finland-bio-coverThere’s been a lot of interest in homoerotic artist Tom Of Finland recently, which seems to be repositioning him from being seen as a purveyor of well drawn, big-bulged smut, to being respected as a legitimate artist whose unapologetically homoerotic imagery fought against mainstream hatred of everything LGBT and helped illuminate queer culture at a time when even gay people didn’t know what that meant.

As a result of this shift, two movie about the man are in the works, and an exhibition on Bob Mizer & Tom of Finland at MOCA (Museum Of Contemporary Art) Pacific Design Center in LA. Now that MOCA exhibit has resulted in the emergence of the short documentary below, which looks at Tom and the Tom Of Finland Foundation.

Take a look below. [Read more…]

Pier Kids: The Life – Taking a look at NYC’s Homeless LGBT people of color

November 2, 2013 By Tim Isaac 2 Comments

Looking at the more affluent areas of the developed world, it can seem like the fight for LGBT equality is either won or well on its way to be. However if you scratch under the surface you can find numerous areas where inequality is still causing massive problems and ruining people’s lives. It’s one of those areas that Pier Kids: The Life look at.

The film, ‘examines the legacy of Stonewall and the Gay Rights Movement it ignited by following the lives of DeSean, Krystal, and Casper, three gay and transgender youth of color who, after being pushed out of their home because of their sexuality, have become homeless on the same street the riots took place more than forty years ago.’

It’s been reported in the US that 40% of homeless young people are LGBT. [Read more…]

Shia LaBeouf Gets Too Explicit For Youtube In A New Nymphomaniac Clip

November 2, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

nymphomaniac-character-poster5Google may be where many people go to search for porn, but they’re not keen on anything too explicit on their on services. As a result, when a new, sex-filled clip from Lar Von Trier’s Nymphomaniac was released, featuring Shia LaBeouf getting down and dirty with a lady, the video was quickly yanked and deemed far too explicit.

It hasn’t completely disappeared though, as other services aren’t quite so restrictive, so you can take a look at it below. It’s certainly got more of the promised steaminess than previous clips, which have largely centred around more innocuous encounters.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘The film is a wild and poetic story of a woman’s erotic journey from birth to the age of 50 as told by the main character, the self-diagnosed nymphomaniac, Joe (Charlotte Gainsbourg). On a cold winter’s evening the old, charming bachelor, Seligman (Stellan Skarsgard), finds Joe beaten up in an alley. He brings her home to his flat where he cares for her wounds while asking her about her life. He listens intently as Joe over the next 8 chapters recounts the lushly branched-out and multi-faceted story of her life, rich in associations and interjecting incidents.’

No release date is currently set, but expect it sometime next year (and hope your country gets the hardcore version, as Von Trier has said he’s creating one version with full-on sex and another softer version for those areas that can’t get too sexy). Take a look at the new clip below. [Read more…]

November 2, 2013 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

Tom Hiddleston and Tilda Swinton are trying out being undead in Only Lovers Left Alive, which attracted rather mixed notices on its Toronto Film Festival debut. However the trailer suggests it could be rather intriguing.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Starring Tilda Swinton, Tom Hiddleston, Mia Wasikowska, John Hurt, Anton Yelchin and Jeffrey Wright, ONLY LOVERS LEFT ALIVE takes place against the romantic desolation of Detroit and Tangier and follows an underground musician, deeply depressed by the direction of human activities, who reunites with his resilient and enigmatic lover. that-awkward-moment-poster1
We’ve had a couple of trailers for That Awkward Moment, which surprised many by showing off Zac Efron’s showing off his butt and wearing a dildo. Now we’ve got a poster which is far more family friendly – but then, cinema foyer’s aren’t fond of showing off pictures of fake penises.

Previously titled Are We Officially Dating?, That Awkward Moment is about a groups of Manhattan friends (Zac Efron, Miles Teller, Michael B. Jordan) who initially make a pact to remain single. The plot thickens when each friend falls in love shortly after the vow is made (wouldn’t you just know it!), and have to decide “So…where is this going?”.

The movie is due out at the end of January

New The Lego Movie Trailer – The bricks have come to life

November 1, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Many people may be wondering whether a film filled with little yellow Lego people can work. Well, on the evidence of this new trailer, it could be a lot of fun. It also shows off the various franchises that will show up, including DC superheroes, NBA basketball teams, Lord Of The Rings and Ninja Turtles.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘The LEGO Movie follows Emmet, an ordinary, rules-following, perfectly average LEGO minifigure who is mistakenly identified as the most extraordinary person and the key to saving the world. Emmet (Chris Pratt) is drafted into a fellowship of strangers on an epic quest to stop an evil tyrant, a journey for which he is hopelessly and hilariously underprepared.

‘Will Ferrell, Morgan Freeman, Liam Neeson, Will Arnett, Elizabeth Banks, Nick Offerman and Alison Brie join Chris Pratt to form the cast of the first-ever full length theatrical LEGO movie, the greatest movie ever assembled, which is set to hit cinemas in 14th February 2014.’ [Read more…]

New Labor Day Trailer – Kate Winslet & Josh Brolin star in Jason Reitman’s film

November 1, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Juno and Young Adult director Jason Reitman is getting a little more serious with Labor Day, and we can get a taste of that in a new trailer, which start Kate Winslet and Josh Brolin.

Reitman has previously said it’s a more straightforward work than his previous movie. ”There’s no cynicism in this movie. There’s no irony in this movie. This one is dramatic, romantic, and has moments of being a thriller — all new things for me. It felt like making my first movie again.”

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Labor Day centers on 13-year-old Henry Wheeler, who struggles to be the man of his house and care for his reclusive mother Adele while confronting all the pangs of adolescence. On a back-to-school shopping trip, Henry and his mother encounter Frank Chambers, a man both intimidating and clearly in need of help, who convinces them to take him into their home and later is revealed to be an escaped convict. The events of this long Labor Day weekend will shape them for the rest of their lives.’

A Christmas Day US release is set, with the film coming to the UK in early 201 [Read more…]
