Riddick Extended Red Band Trailer – Vin Diesel isn’t shying away from the violence

July 20, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Vin Diesel and director David Twohy have never given up on Riddick, despite the fact the big budget Chronicles Of Riddick failed at the box office. Now they’re back with a film that’s promised to be closer to the tone of Pitch Black. At the film’s Comic-Con panel, an extended red band trailer was revealed, which has now popped up online.

Here’s the plot synopsis: ‘In the film, the infamous Riddick has been left for dead on a sun-scorched planet that appears to be lifeless. Soon, however, he finds himself fighting for survival against alien predators more lethal than any human he’s encountered. The only way off is for Riddick to activate an emergency beacon and alert mercenaries who rapidly descend to the planet in search of their bounty.

‘The first ship to arrive carries a new breed of merc, more lethal and violent, while the second is captained by a man whose pursuit of Riddick is more personal. With time running out and a storm on the horizon that no one could survive, his hunters won’t leave the planet without Riddick’s head as their trophy.’

It should hit cinemas this autumn. [Read more…]

Kick-Ass 2 Extended Red-Band Trailer – Aaron Taylor Johnson & Chloe Moretz are back

July 20, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

I think it’s safe to say that they haven’t decided to sanitise Kick-Ass 2 to get a lower rating, as this new extended red-band trailer – released to coincide with the film’s appearance at Comic-Con – is certainly keen to show that the language and violence is very much intact. And it’s also looking a whole lot of fun.

It also gives us out best look yet at Jim Carrey’s Colonel Stars & Stripes, as well as Christoph Mintz-Plasse’s return as the rather S&M The Motherf**ka.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Kick-Ass, Hit Girl and Red Mist return for the follow-up to 2010’s irreverent global hit: Kick-Ass 2.  After Kick-Ass’ (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) insane bravery inspires a new wave of self-made masked crusaders, led by the badass Colonel Stars and Stripes (Jim Carrey), our hero joins them on patrol.  When these amateur superheroes are hunted down by Red Mist (Christopher Mintz-Plasse)—reborn as The Mother F%&*^r—only the blade-wielding Hit Girl (Chloë Grace Moretz) can prevent their annihilation.

‘When we last saw junior assassin Hit Girl and young vigilante Kick-Ass, they were trying to live as normal teenagers Mindy and Dave.  With graduation looming and uncertain what to do, Dave decides to start the world’s first superhero team with Mindy.  Unfortunately, when Mindy is busted for sneaking out as Hit Girl, she’s forced to retire—leaving her to navigate the terrifying world of high-school mean girls on her own.  With no one left to turn to, Dave joins forces with Justice Forever, run by a born-again ex-mobster named Colonel Stars and Stripes.

‘Just as they start to make a real difference on the streets,  the world’s first super villain, The Mother F%&*^r, assembles his own evil league and puts a plan in motion to make Kick-Ass and Hit Girl pay for what they did to his dad.  But there’s only one problem with his scheme: If you mess with one member of Justice Forever, you mess with them all.’

Kick-Ass 2 hits cinemas in August. [Read more…]

George A. Romero’s Zombie Classic Dawn Of The Dead Is Going 3D

July 20, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

dawn-of-the-dead-3d-poster
A week ago it was revealed that another remake of Day Of The Day was in the works, which is the result of the fact that Romero’s movies are all owned by different people and at least for the original trilogy, he has no control over what is done with them (which is especially true for Night Of The Living Dead, as a legal issue means it’s now in the public domain).

So not only are we getting another Day Of The Dead, but at Comic-Con producer Richard P. Rubinstein has revealed that he’s in the final stages of converting director Romero’s 1978 zombie classic Dawn Of The Dead into 3D. Rubinstein says that 91 minutes of the 126-minute movie converted already.

The producer says, “It is proving to be more 3D friendly than many films, because George’s style was to compose within the frame, rather than across frames. That means there is a lot of action within each frame, from front to back and it makes the conversion process more friendly. It’s like you’re moving the audience closer to the movie. What I didn’t want to do is not edit anything George did in his original movie, and nothing has been altered in this process.”

The conversion process has been in the works since 2007, but the producer revealed he isn’t sure what he plans on doing with the 3D film once it is finished sometime this autumn. That’s despite the fact they’ve already spent $6 million on it, nearly 10 times the film original $685,000 budget.

We’d imagine many Romero fans will be livid at the news that once more someone if playing with one of the films (although we wouldn’t be surprised if they take a look if it ever gets to cinemas).

X-Men: Days Of Future Past Character Portraits & Logo Emerge

July 20, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

With X-Men: Days Of Future Past mixing up mutants from the original trilogy with their First Class counterparts, there’s a lot of interest in the film. Now some character portraits have emerged (apparently first on the X-Men Tumblr, although they now seem to have been removed, and then on ComingSoon).

They show us Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Hugh Jackman and Daniel Cudmore back in the X-Men fold, along with out first look at Omar Sy as Bishop, and First Class’ Nicholas Hoult and Lucas Till.

The film’s Comic-Con panel takes place on Saturday, so hopefully there’ll be more news from that. Click on the pics below for larger versions. It’s out in cinemas May 2014.

Shailene Woodley, Theo James & Kate Winslet Shine In New Divergent Images

July 20, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

divergent-pic4
One of the many movies vying for attention at Comic-Con is Divergent, and to try and get a bit of interest, they’ve now released seven new images from the film, which will be hoping to intrigue the young adult audience when it’s released next March.

Neil Burger is directing the adaptation of Veronica Roth’s best-selling novel, which takes place in a dystopian future made up of five factions that are based on different personality types. As they come of age, everyone must join the faction they fit into, but certain people are ‘divergents’, showing traits from more than one group. Tris (Shailene Woodley) uncovers that these people are seen as dangerous and the government wants to get rid of them.

The likes of Theo James, Kate Winslet, Miles Teller, Ashley Judd and Maggie Q co-star. Click on the pics below for larger versions.

Tom Sturridge Joins Carey Mulligan In Far From The Madding Crowd

July 20, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

tom-sturridgeFesten director Thomas Vinterberg has been planning a new version of Far From The Madding Crowd for quite a while now. He’s already lined up Carey Mulligan and Matthias Schoenaerts to star, and now Deadline reports they’ve been joined by Tom Sturridge (On the Road, The Boat that Rocked), who’s currently hot after a Tony-nominated run on Broadway in Orphans.

David Nicholls is writing the screenplay which is about headstrong farmer’s daughter Bathsheba Everdene (Mulligan), and her tumultuous love life, who must choose between three very different suitors, which involves a shepherd she initially dismisses, a dashing but duplicitous soldier, and a farm owner.

Athough Deadline say exactly which of those suitors Sturridge will play, we’re betting he’ll be the seemingly exciting Sergeant Frank Troy, who isn’t all he promises to be.

Benedict Cumberbatch To Officiate At A Gay Wedding In Ibiza This Weekend

July 19, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Benedict-cumberbatchIt’s quite a big few days for Benedict Cumberbatch. He got an Emmy Nomination for Parade’s End yesterday, today is his 37th birthday and tomorrow he’s going to officiate at a friend’s same-sex wedding in Ibiza (gay marriage has been legal in Spain since 2005).

Talking to Vulture he says, “Of course, I’m going to make a joke after it, ‘I do weddings. Next will be children’s parties and bat mitzvahs,’ if it goes well. It’s a mainly Jewish and gay audience, so hopefully they will be lenient towards me.”

Perhaps this could be a lucrative sideline for Cumberbatch, especially considering his huge following in the gay community. Indeed, when the first British gay marriages start happening next summer, perhaps Benedict should do all of them! We’d imagine he’ll be too busy making Sherlock, or starring in Hollywood movies, or some other such nonsense though – he’s likely to miss his calling.

Kermit’s Rainbow Connection Gets A Comic Equal Marriage Twist

July 19, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

It almost surprising The Muppets song, Rainbow Connection, hasn’t been used more by the LGBT community, especially in the gay marriage debate – but then, with the anti-same sex marriage lobby saying it will lead to bestiality, perhaps the pro side deliberately decided to steer clear of a song sung by a frog who’s in a relationship with a pig.

Now the song has been re-imagined in a new parody to be more explicitly gay, promoting same sex marriage and even suggesting the world would be a better place if Kim Jong-Un got it together with one of his generals.

The song originally appeared in The Muppets Movie, but has since found a life of its own, being reprised in both The Muppet Show and the recent The Muppets movie. It’s also been covered by the likes of Judy Collins, The Carpenters, Dana Valery, Sarah McLachlan, Kenny Loggins, The Dixie Chicks, Justin Timberlake, Jason Mraz, The Pussycat Dolls, Willie Nelson and Weezer. But it’s never been quite this gay or funny. [Read more…]

Backstreet Boys Show Gay Marriage Support In A World Like This Music Vid

The Backstreet Boys are the latest to show their support for marriage equality by highlighting it in the video for their latest song, In A World Like This. The boys – Nick Carter, Kevin Richardson, Brian Littrell, AJ McLean, and Howie Dorough – debuted the vid on Good Morning America in the US.

McLean said, “The concept of the video is based on the song, which tells a story of how love conquers all and ‘in a world like this’ that we live in, with all the craziness and negative energy that can go around, with real love you can overcome anything.”

The boys will also be on tour this summer. [Read more…]

Ender’s Game Filmmakers Talk About Gay Boycott At Comic-Con

July 19, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Enders-Game-Poster1It probably wasn’t a coincidence that Geeks Out decided to announce their planned boycott of Ender’s Game just a couple of weeks before Comic-Con, as they knew the actors and filmmakers would be gathering in San Diego to try and push the sci-fi film.

Talk of a boycott has certainly managed to shift the focus from the film itself to the controversy surrounding the book’s author. It’s resulted in most of those involved in the film making statements at Comic-Con distancing themselves from the homophobic sentiments of the author Orson Scott Card.

Talking to The Huffington Post, director Gavin Hood said, “We can’t control – like, we have no right to tell him [Card[ what he should or shouldn’t say. I don’t know, Bob and I – we hold the opposite view. I do not agree with Orson Scott Card’s position on gay marriage. But, I love Ender’s Game the book. And that’s something that one has to reconcile in one’s own head. That’s really our position.”

Producer Bob Orci added, “At first, as you’re saying, we were, ‘Yes, this is a difficulty.’ We’ve come to embrace the fact that this actually gets to be a conversation. And we actually get to sit here and say that we support human rights and we support what’s going on in this country right now and that it’s trending in the right direction. And without this conversation, we wouldn’t be able to say that. We wouldn’t be talking about that. And the book is about tolerance and understanding differences and bullying. And, so, it’s actually turned out to be oddly relevant to the book and it turns out that the book itself is the biggest advocate of the position.”

“And that’s the beautiful thing,” Hood continued. “Frequently artists create something that is better and more insightful than their own particular point of view on some issue. We have a great piece of art and we have the artist behind that art saying things that seem to be extremely bigoted. But they’re not the book. The book is the book and Orson’s views are his views.”

Orci echoed those sentiments when he got on stage for the film’s actual Comic-Con panel, saying, “The best message of the book is tolerance, compassion, empathy. Rather than shying away from the controversy, we’re happy to embrace it and say we support LGBT rights.” He was given a strong round of applause by the 6,000 people in the room.

Orci and Hood are not the only ones being asked for their views, as 16-year-old Asa Butterfield, who plays the Titular Ender in the movie, said “I agree with rights for everybody… You can’t blame a work for its author.”

Co-star Harrison Ford has also weighed in saying, “No part of the story concerns Mr Card’s theories about society in terms of gay issues or homosexual issues. I think he has a right to his opinions and has also made it clear that it was a battle that he fought and lost and would like to get on with the rest of life.”

As you might have realised, Card was not invited to be part of the panel, and with Ender’s Game studio Lionsgate recently laying out their LGBT-friendly credentials and distancing themselves from Card, it’s safe to say he won’t be part of the publicity for the film at all.

Geeks Out maintains they’re keeping with their boycott plans, as no matter how gay-friendly everyone else involved in the film is, it will make money for Card, which he could then put towards anti-gay causes, such as the extremely homophobic National Organisation For Marriage, which had Card as a board member.

Ultimately though, will the planned boycott effect the film, or is it actually just giving it more publicity and the oxygen of controversy in a crowded marketplace for young adult movies?
