Riddick Extended Red Band Trailer – Vin Diesel isn’t shying away from the violence

July 20, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Vin Diesel and director David Twohy have never given up on Riddick, despite the fact the big budget Chronicles Of Riddick failed at the box office. Now they’re back with a film that’s promised to be closer to the tone of Pitch Black. At the film’s Comic-Con panel, an extended red band trailer was revealed, which has now popped up online.

Here’s the plot synopsis: ‘In the film, the infamous Riddick has been left for dead on a sun-scorched planet that appears to be lifeless. Soon, however, he finds himself fighting for survival against alien predators more lethal than any human he’s encountered. The only way off is for Riddick to activate an emergency beacon and alert mercenaries who rapidly descend to the planet in search of their bounty.

‘The first ship to arrive carries a new breed of merc, more lethal and violent, while the second is captained by a man whose pursuit of Riddick is more personal. With time running out and a storm on the horizon that no one could survive, his hunters won’t leave the planet without Riddick’s head as their trophy.’

It should hit cinemas this autumn. [Read more…]

Kick-Ass 2 Extended Red-Band Trailer – Aaron Taylor Johnson & Chloe Moretz are back

July 20, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

I think it’s safe to say that they haven’t decided to sanitise Kick-Ass 2 to get a lower rating, as this new extended red-band trailer – released to coincide with the film’s appearance at Comic-Con – is certainly keen to show that the language and violence is very much intact. And it’s also looking a whole lot of fun.

It also gives us out best look yet at Jim Carrey’s Colonel Stars & Stripes, as well as Christoph Mintz-Plasse’s return as the rather S&M The Motherf**ka.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Kick-Ass, Hit Girl and Red Mist return for the follow-up to 2010’s irreverent global hit: Kick-Ass 2.  After Kick-Ass’ (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) insane bravery inspires a new wave of self-made masked crusaders, led by the badass Colonel Stars and Stripes (Jim Carrey), our hero joins them on patrol.  When these amateur superheroes are hunted down by Red Mist (Christopher Mintz-Plasse)—reborn as The Mother F%&*^r—only the blade-wielding Hit Girl (Chloë Grace Moretz) can prevent their annihilation.

‘When we last saw junior assassin Hit Girl and young vigilante Kick-Ass, they were trying to live as normal teenagers Mindy and Dave.  With graduation looming and uncertain what to do, Dave decides to start the world’s first superhero team with Mindy.  Unfortunately, when Mindy is busted for sneaking out as Hit Girl, she’s forced to retire—leaving her to navigate the terrifying world of high-school mean girls on her own.  With no one left to turn to, Dave joins forces with Justice Forever, run by a born-again ex-mobster named Colonel Stars and Stripes.

‘Just as they start to make a real difference on the streets,  the world’s first super villain, The Mother F%&*^r, assembles his own evil league and puts a plan in motion to make Kick-Ass and Hit Girl pay for what they did to his dad.  But there’s only one problem with his scheme: If you mess with one member of Justice Forever, you mess with them all.’

Kick-Ass 2 hits cinemas in August. [Read more…]

George A. Romero’s Zombie Classic Dawn Of The Dead Is Going 3D

July 20, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

dawn-of-the-dead-3d-poster
A week ago it was revealed that another remake of Day Of The Day was in the works, which is the result of the fact that Romero’s movies are all owned by different people and at least for the original trilogy, he has no control over what is done with them (which is especially true for Night Of The Living Dead, as a legal issue means it’s now in the public domain).

So not only are we getting another Day Of The Dead, but at Comic-Con producer Richard P. Rubinstein has revealed that he’s in the final stages of converting director Romero’s 1978 zombie classic Dawn Of The Dead into 3D. Rubinstein says that 91 minutes of the 126-minute movie converted already.

The producer says, “It is proving to be more 3D friendly than many films, because George’s style was to compose within the frame, rather than across frames. That means there is a lot of action within each frame, from front to back and it makes the conversion process more friendly. It’s like you’re moving the audience closer to the movie. What I didn’t want to do is not edit anything George did in his original movie, and nothing has been altered in this process.”

The conversion process has been in the works since 2007, but the producer revealed he isn’t sure what he plans on doing with the 3D film once it is finished sometime this autumn. That’s despite the fact they’ve already spent $6 million on it, nearly 10 times the film original $685,000 budget.

We’d imagine many Romero fans will be livid at the news that once more someone if playing with one of the films (although we wouldn’t be surprised if they take a look if it ever gets to cinemas).

With X-Men: Days Of Future Past mixing up mutants from the original trilogy with their First Class counterparts, there’s a lot of interest in the film. Now some character portraits have emerged (apparently first on the X-Men Tumblr, although they now seem to have been removed, and then on ComingSoon).

They show us Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Hugh Jackman and Daniel Cudmore back in the X-Men fold, along with out first look at Omar Sy as Bishop, and First Class’ Nicholas Hoult and Lucas Till.

The film’s Comic-Con panel takes place on Saturday, so hopefully there’ll be more news from that. Click on the pics below for larger versions. It’s out in cinemas May 2014.

One of the many movies vying for attention at Comic-Con is Divergent, and to try and get a bit of interest, they’ve now released seven new images from the film, which will be hoping to intrigue the young adult audience when it’s released next March.

Neil Burger is directing the adaptation of Veronica Roth’s best-selling novel, which takes place in a dystopian future made up of five factions that are based on different personality types. As they come of age, everyone must join the faction they fit into, but certain people are ‘divergents’, showing traits from more than one group. Tris (Shailene Woodley) uncovers that these people are seen as dangerous and the government wants to get rid of them.

The likes of Theo James, Kate Winslet, Miles Teller, Ashley Judd and Maggie Q co-star. Click on the pics below for larger versions.

Tom Sturridge Joins Carey Mulligan In Far From The Madding Crowd

July 20, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

tom-sturridgeFesten director Thomas Vinterberg has been planning a new version of Far From The Madding Crowd for quite a while now. He’s already lined up Carey Mulligan and Matthias Schoenaerts to star, and now Deadline reports they’ve been joined by Tom Sturridge (On the Road, The Boat that Rocked), who’s currently hot after a Tony-nominated run on Broadway in Orphans.

David Nicholls is writing the screenplay which is about headstrong farmer’s daughter Bathsheba Everdene (Mulligan), and her tumultuous love life, who must choose between three very different suitors, which involves a shepherd she initially dismisses, a dashing but duplicitous soldier, and a farm owner.

Athough Deadline say exactly which of those suitors Sturridge will play, we’re betting he’ll be the seemingly exciting Sergeant Frank Troy, who isn’t all he promises to be.

Last Vegas Trailer – Robert De Niro, Michael Douglas & Morgan Freeman star in the ‘old boys Hangover’

July 19, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Last Vegas has been described as the ‘old boys Hangover’ with the likes of Robert De Niro, Morgan Freeman, Michael Douglas and Kevin Kline (who are all, incidentally, Oscar winners) heading to Vegas and inevitably getting into trouble. Now the full trailer for the movie has arrived.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Billy (Michael Douglas), Paddy (Robert De Niro), Archie (Morgan Freeman) and Sam (Kevin Kline) have been best friends since childhood. So when Billy, the group’s sworn bachelor, finally proposes to his thirty-something (of course) girlfriend, the four head to Las Vegas with a plan to stop acting their age and relive their glory days. However, upon arriving, the four quickly realize that the decades have transformed Sin City and tested their friendship in ways they never imagined. The Rat Pack may have once played the Sands and Cirque du Soleil may now rule the Strip, but it’s these four who are taking over Vegas.’

It should hit cinemas in November. [Read more…]

First Look At Liam Hemsworth In Cut Bank

July 19, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

cut-bank-pic1 thumb
Despite The Hunger Games, Liam Hemsworth hasn’t quite got the fame of his brother Chris. He’s working on it though, with the Hunger Games sequels coming, as well as the thriller Paranoia, which is due in cinemas soon. Now we get our first look at another one of his movies, Cut Bank, where we can see him standing in a field (and unlike most of the other images of him that get released, in this one he’s wearing a shirt!).

Although it may not look like it, the film is actually a sci-fi flick. It follows Dwayne McLaren (Hemsworth ) a high school star athlete recently turned auto mechanic, who dreams of getting out of tiny town on Cut Bank, the coldest town in America, and whisking his pageant-hopeful girlfriend, Cassandra (Teresa Palmer), away to the big city.

However, his plan to leave sets in motion a deadly series of events and thrusts him into a police investigation headed by Sheriff Vogel (John Malkovich), the protector of Cut Bank and the closest thing Dwayne has to a father figure. Panic sweeps across the community in mere hours, but things are not what they seem. Cassandra’s father, Big Stan Steeley (Billy Bob Thornton), is the only one who seems to realise this. However, the damage is already done and the events that unfold change Dwayne’s life, and the life of the town, forever.

The film’s due out next year.

Cate Blanchett & Djimon Hounsou Join How To Train Your Dragon 2

July 19, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Cate-BlanchettHow To Train Your Dragon 2 has had its Comic-Con panel, which included what’s been described as an ‘awesome’ clip from the movie, along with the news that Cate Blanchett and Djimon Hounsou will be part of the voice cast of the film.

Cinemablend reports that more was revealed about Kit Harington’s previously announced role in the movie. He’ll be “a self-declared world’s greatest dragon trapper. He’s very brazen,” according to DreamWorks.

Harington’s villain will be joined by Hounsou on the evil side of things, as he’ll be playing a character with the suitably dangerous name of Drago Bloodfist. Blanchett meanwhile will be somebody called Volca. Director Dean DeBlois describes her as, “A feral recluse vigilante that’s been out there rescuing dragons from traps.”

Here’s the synopsis: ‘The thrilling second chapter of the epic How To Train Your Dragon trilogy brings back the fantastical world of Hiccup and Toothless five years later. While Astrid, Snoutlout and the rest of the gang are challenging each other to dragon races (the island’s new favorite contact sport), the now inseparable pair journey through the skies, charting unmapped territories and exploring new worlds. When one of their adventures leads to the discovery of a secret ice cave that is home to hundreds of new wild dragons and the mysterious Dragon Rider, the two friends find themselves at the center of a battle to protect the peace.’

The film is currently due out June 20th, 2014.

Comic-Con Posters: Oldboy Banner, Getaway, 300: Rise Of An Empire, The Crow & more

July 19, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

oldboy-comic-con-banner
While most of us can’t get to San Diego for Comic-con, we can still hang around the periphery, enjoying the bits and pieces studios release to tie in with the event. That includes a lot of posters. We’ve now got a quintet of fresh looks at upcoming movie with an Oldboy banner, as well as new posters for 300: Rise Of An Empire, Getaway, Only God Forgives and the reboot of The Crow. You can take a look at all of them below.

Spike Lee’s remake of Oldboy follows  an advertising executive (Josh Brolin) who is abruptly kidnapped and held hostage for 20 years in solitary confinement. When he is inexplicably released, he embarks on an obsessive mission to discover who orchestrated his bizarre and torturous punishment, only to find he is still trapped in a web of conspiracy and torment.

The Crow gets a poster from the comic’s creator, James O’Barr, along with the news that after years in development, it should finally start shooting in Ocotber. Luke Evans will play Eric Draven, who dies but comes back as The Crow to avenge the murder of his girlfriend. F. Javier Gutiérrez directs.

Getaway follows former race car driver Brent Magna (Ethan Hawke) is pitted against the clock. Desperately trying to save the life of his kidnapped wife, Brent commandeers a custom Shelby Cobra Mustang, taking it and its unwitting owner (Selena Gomez) on a high-speed race against time, at the command of the mysterious villain holding his wife hostage. It’s out in the US in August and currently scheduled for an early October release in the UK.

In Only God Forgives, Julian (Gosling) lives in exile in Bangkok where he runs a Thai boxing club as a front for the family’s drugs smuggling operation. When Julian’s brother Billy is killed their mother, Jenna (Kristen Scott Thomas), arrives in the city. She wants revenge and forces Julian to find the killer. Julian’s contacts in the criminal underworld lead him directly to The Angel of Vengeance, a retired police officer who knows everything and who is both Judge and Punisher. Jenna demands that Julian kill The Angel of Vengeance, an act that will cost him dearly.

300: Rise Of An Empire sees Sullivan Stapleton as Themistokles, who tries to unite all of Greece in battle against the massive Persian army lead by Xerxes and the cunning Artemisia (Eva Green). It’s out March 2014.
